the ground zero workshop is exactly that-
Mon, Oct 20, 08   12:00 PM sharoncarrol Female 30-39 Combination Individual
a workshop that helps one heal from the events of 9/11. i wavered back and forth when i came to visit nyc of whether or not i'd be able to even go look at ground zero or not. i heard about this workshop, and although i was still unsure, i decided i needed to try and face some of my fears of that day. i would recommend the workshop to anyone. i thank the artist for putting the small space together- it's perfect. it's intimate and safe and each person can listen to as much information as they can handle. i always felt so silly for being so affected from that day. i was living 1200 miles away (in minnesota). i always wondered why it saddened me as much as it did. i was able to work through my grief and come to terms with that day. i can now look at pictures and video of that day and still remember, but not become so overwhelmed. thank you.

Enjoy is the wrong words, but I felt privileged to be there and to see the artefacts. Because the museum is so small you feel much more involved somehow.

A must-see for your New York trip

We visited in New York for five days. Our time at the Ground Zero Museum Workshop was an important highlight of our trip. After a brief video and overview you are able to view all the photographs and artifacts that you desire in the museum at your own pace via headphones. We spent almost two hours there and left with a clearer understanding of the human tragedy caused by 9/11. I would recommend attending the museum workshop before visiting the WTC area as you will recall many stories learned of at the museum as you view ground zero. All in all, a very moving experience and one not to be missed on your New York trip.

The museum is not about the attack on the twin towers but about how the rescue workers operating in extreme danger worked with great courage and compassion to recover the remains of those who were killed in the attack. It is a very warm and moving experience.

I was deeply impressed...

I'm from Japan and 23 years old. When 911 happened on 9/11/2001, I was 15 years old. I was watching news about 911 on TV and couldn't believed that this is what happen actually. September 11th is really important for American, and people all over the world. We don't have to forget what happened there, a great many civilian lives were sacrificed, and 911 has been making a lot of victims in Iraq. It has been 7 years already since 911. Many people almost forget 911, but "Ground Zero Museum Workshop" reminds us, suggests many things to us. (I'm sorry I'm not good at English but I hope you understand what I want to say, how I felt.)

A Very Emotional Encounter

The visit of the workshop was very important for me, because I haven't been able to fully understand and cope with the tragic happenings seven years ago. You've seen a lot of photos and imagery before, but getting to know some of the stories behind those pictures first hand helps to fully comprehend what that day meant to the lives of so many people. The museum was really intimate and private and everything was just right to allow for you to concentrate on your own exploration of what was there in front of you. However, the staff was really helpful answering any questions and providing any emotional support you might need. Altogether, I want to thank all the people that have collaborated in this project, and especially firefighter Gary Marlon Suson, who has left me impressed with his incredible strength of character.

The Ground Zero Museum Tour is a combination of a regular museum and an art show, with the emphasis on the latter since it was put together by the Ground Zero official photographer who understandably wishes to display his work. What makes it special is the interaction between his photographs of the recovery effort and the artifacts recovered. Everything is done very reverentially and respectfully. The museum is in fact one small quiet room in which visitors are shown a couple of short films about the project, and then are allowed to individually select those photographs about which they wish to hear narratives (with headphones).

Very memorable and worth the price

For starters, I would like to start off by saying , the tour guides were very nice and professional. They explained thoroughly what we were to see, hear, and expect among the two hours of the stay. Even though the physical space is small, there was plenty of information to see, and hear through the state of the art audio tour. It put me personally back in the time period of September 2001. At times it made me emotional which was to expect. Just seeing the pieces of rubble, parts of the building and personal belongings that were gathered from the site just put me in another state of mind of tranquility, anger, and then saddness form all that happened that day. I LOVE the pictorial book that I purchased. It really explains the reality of what the photographer went through for the period of time that he and the firefighters/police/ EMT'S delt with this unbelievable tragedy. Thank you very much for the memory. There is not a day that goes by that I could forget what happened on that day. "I will never forget". And now, I have a new memory to remember daily! Darrin Smith
