My wife and I gained a new understanding of the recovery effort. This was not a lighthearted "stop" that you could just breeze through quickly. Very initmate and respectfully done. Thank you for making it available.

Small but full of information.

Smaller than what we expected (one room). Although small in size, it was full of information, personal stories, artifacts. It was appropriate for our 2 children ages 10 & 7. Definitely recommend visiting the museum BEFORE visiting the 9/11 memorial site. We spent approximately 90 minutes at the museum.

A small space that packs a powerful punch

This museum, a collection of the photographs of Gary Marlon Suson taken at Ground Zero during the recovery and also of artifacts from that time and space, is a very important and well done work. It brings you into the Pile. It is emotionally difficult but definitely a part of the story that should not be missed. Gary and retired firefighter, Joe Miccoli, are interesting speakers, welcoming hosts and willing providers of information. Thank you, guys. I will not forget this experience nor what you did for us during the recovery period.

Gary's workshop is a very important, sobering inside look at the Recovery efforts following the September 11th attacks on America. His photography allowed us to see what our fellow, everyday heroes experienced during the months and year that followed; what the rest of America was able to go to work and school and forget as time went on. Keeping these images displayed, with such dignity and taste, and allowing people to view them, hear them, and even touch them keeps the memories and stories alive for us all, stories which never should be allowed to die. I thank him and those involved with this project for letting us peek inside something that would otherwise be forever unseen. I don't think any visitor to New York should leave the city without seeing this exhibit.

My wife and I found this to be a deeply emotional experience. Coming from Australia, and also being previous visitors to New York City, we were very touched by the photos, video/audio presentations but most specifically by Gary Suson's personal account and recollections. We applaud his passion, not only to his art, but also to the thousands of people who lost their lives on that terrible day and their families. Having watched this all unfold back in 2001 from Melbourne, Australia and being quite distressed at the time it was a sureal experience to talk to someone who was at the World Trade Centre site during the recovery operation. Gary was an amazing person who has a great talent, not only with his photography, but also with his recollections of the various stories behind his photos. We purchased his book "Requiem" and have bought that home with us to ensure we never forget the very moving experience of the museum. We have had quite a few requests from familty and friends to view this book. Those who have already done so have also found it very moving in itself. Gary's work and museum should have a lot more exposure and recognition for what he has done in ensuring that 9/11 is never forgotton in the amazingly tasteful way that he has portrayed his photos, artifacts and stories. Very, very highly recommend. However take plenty of tissues. David and Michelle Burdett, Melbourne, Australia.

Must see museum while in Manhatten

The museum is small but packed with lots of pictures and artifacts to occupy you for a full 2 hours. Very tastefully done and well worth it! It may not be a good idea for young children to attend, however since there is nothing for them to do, artifacts are within reach (and not to be touched), and visitors are trying to concentrate on hearing the audio recordings. I highly recommend this museum!!

A must when visiting NY, before you see GZ site

Very impressed with the sincerely sensitive presentation of the stories that touched Gary Suson while photodocumenting this horrific event and aftermath. His perceptive and detailed story telling is above all what conveys to the visitor a true feeling of how it was to be there during that time and after, while the Fire Depts were recovering the many victims of that tragedy. I would highly recommend a visit to this interactive museum before seeing the actual Ground Zero site. Makes it so much more real and meaningful. I was also particularly impressed with Gary's way with my children and nephew. He gave them exactly what I had hoped they would come away with...something that they would never forget as long as they live and something that they could share with classmates and teachers as well as other family members about what they learned there.

An insightful and moving experience

The museum provides an amazing insight into the events of September 11. The individual story with each artifact puts the tragedy into perspective and the real life voices makes is so real. It is an effective set up which allows everyone to move through the room at their own pace. It isn't about the size of the room, it's all about the experience.
