Very inspirational, straight from the heart

The 911/Ground Zero museum was great. It was very simple, but straight to the point. No "fluff"!!! The best way to feel you were there or have been there is through visual and touch. That's exactly what the museum has to offer. It has a display of photography that is amazing. What is ever so amazing is that none of the photographs were altered so you would buy them! It was the reality of the scene, good and bad. You don't have a chose, but to witness what the people who helped dig and clear ground zero did. You feel sad and happy after leaving the museum. The reason for the sadness is understood, but the happiness of how the people pulled together is very touching. The TV could never illustrate the whole truths, but the museum does. If you are lucky enough to meet the photographer/firefighter that made this all possible you are even more fortunate. I had that opportunity and he was real!!!!! The energy and love he has for "his" museum is electric. Take the short amount of time while you are in THE CITY and see what REALLY happened at Ground Zero. Buy his collection while you are there. You can take your time and really see what he saw and felt. There are moments in his book you think you are there. You can cry and laugh again, alone! With much thanx for inviting me into a huge part of your life, Teri Miller P.s. I WILL see you on broadway!

VERY MOVING

I would definitely recommend the Ground Zero Museum. It is an emotional and intimate experience - with over 100 exhibits displayed in just a small studio room. The tour starts with a couple of short video clips which are very moving - lots of tissues being passed around - then there is the chance to hold some artifacts extracted from Ground Zero. Finally the audio tour lets you hear the stories behind chosen exhibits and photographs. There's 2 hours allocated to each tour, so there is time to hear every story, if you can handle it.

A meaningful experience

Like my reaction to the events of 9/11 my workshop experience was very personal. As a native New Yorker living on the west coast I felt a need to be more connected to those affected by the tragedy. I have always felt something was "missing" for me because I wasn't there when it happened and so I made a special trip to New York to visit Ground Zero and the Museum Workshop. Seeing the photos of the rescue workers, hearing the stories behind the photos, and actually being able to touch pieces of the World Trade Center gave me the connection and understanding I was looking for. It's a very powerful experience and one that should not be missed. Never forget.

A disappointment

It was just an "o.k." exhibit, not as good as what I had expected from reading previous reviews. There was much repetition from the video, handout, guide comments and the actual exhibit.

hi dont let the Size of the museum alter/change your intentions!! It is the equivalant of a studio apt. of sorts!! the tour lasts 30 mins. Complete with the audio 'tour' included... Very Powerful!! as only few could recall upon this tragic time!! a bit difficult to find,,, yet the web page does help w accurrate directions... i live just outside of chicago!! and it's Defintely worth the $25!!! REMINDER!! IT IS NOT NEAR GROUND ZERO!!!! That memorial 'museum' is good yet 1/2 the price,, and 1/4rth the Intensity!! i specifically came to new york to see Ground Zero plus a couple of other things.... THIS MUSEUM MADE MY TRIP!! i took the subway!! so all some time yet Enjoy! J.R. Ambrosia

A moving and informative experience

Don't be fooled by the size of this "museum" when you enter - I passed nearly two full hours there. The audio tour takes you through the photographer's recollections of the photographs as he took them, the stories behind the people in them, and the descriptions of the various artifacts. It gives an amazing depth and context to the experience, and the time simply flies. If you are visiting New York and want a meaningful experience to remember 9/11 and pay tribute, make it this museum. My only slight criticism is the very heavy religious overtones, which didn't sit well with my personal values and beliefs - but this is a very personal exhibition, and I respect whatever helped to get people through this appalling time.

This museum workshop was intimate and honored those who lost their lives or their families on 9/11. It brought the reality of the World Trade Center losses to life in a touching and memorable way. I highly recommend this.

Disappointed!

I don't call this a museum. I thought it was a personal photographer's showing of his pictures. You play on peoples' emotions and probably pass yourselves off as firefighters when in fact you may not be. I was disappointed!

I would strongly recommend this tour. In an intimate setting, it is very moving and interesting to hear about and see the photos of the recovery efforts through the point of view of someone with such intimate knowledge and access. It is hard to describe the feeling that comes over you when you see the twisted metal from one of the planes, or when you see some of the items that survived pretty much intact, e.g., a pair of glasses, a magazine, a blush compact; items you use or see everyday and don't give a second thought to but which develop a new meaning because of where they came from. Being close to these items really puts a face on those poor people who thought they were just going to work as usual on a beautiful fall day without knowing that would be their last. God bless the recovery workers who had to deal with that on a daily basis.
