Very informative, became more aware of the human side of the event. Appreciated the time, effort, and dedication of those involved.

interesting and very thoughtful exhibition

The museum is a thoughtful and carefully put together exhibtion of photographs and artifacts from the Ground Zero site as well as interviews and presentations. The room itself is very small and can be a bit crowded for 24 people but the small size also adds to the feeling in the space. Excellent and very provoking photographs, full of the emotion and horror of that tragic day.

Excellent tour

My husband and I took our 6 grandchildren (ages 4 to 16), daughter and daughter-in-law to this musuem and everyone thought it was superb. We were very fortunate that the photographer actually dropped in during our tour and personally autographed the book that we purchased there. I would highly recommend this "small" museum to everyone. It was so informative and the children especially thought it was neat to be able to hold some of the items from Ground Zero.

great museum...needs slight improvement

The museum was great, very well presented and very emotional. My only recommendations are as follows: 1. A better introduction. The women greeting visitors and presenting the introduction were a little to stiff and animated. They did not seem comfortable and it felt that they were just running through a script. A museum that is so emotional should really be presented by someone more genuine and heartfelt. 2. More time. I was the only person in my group that listened to every audio recording available and after a while I felt that I had to rush. I did not have enough time to listen to each item even when I did move faster since another group was waiting in the entry and their introduction had alreayd begun before I was finished. This museum presents intense reactions for some people and feeling that you need to hurry through is not very plesant or comforting. Adding just a half hour to the tour would allow plenty of time for someone to give full attention to each audio recording.

Emotional, good but too expensive

One small room creates a special atmosphere but disappointes according to the price. There are roundabout 100 pictures and items you can get an audio commentary for. I think the main goal of the GZMW is not to present a lot of information or pictures, but to create an emotional basis. Including admistration fee nearly 30 $ is too expensive for this visit.

Well worth a visit

I am lucky enough that I didn't know anyone who was directly affected by 9/11, but it was something that I wanted to gain a better understanding of. The way the images and artefacts are set out in the room make it a very personal experience. It also makes it special that the narrator is the actual photographer, and he really conveys his emotion as he's explaining the scenario and situation behind each photo. It's definely a moving experience and allows you to understand exactly what happened on that day, and also what has happened since then in the aftermath and the recovery process. Highly recommend it!!

Interesting

Fascinating museum. On arrival you are met by 2 girls who are very friendly and knowledgable. The museum itself is one room and I did think I would be in and out in 10 mins. I was there for 2 hours. You are left to look at each item yourself using your headset and it was very moving. There was an item that we were told not to photograph and to be honest I did not feel comfortable with this object being part of the museum. Apart from that though, an excellent couple of hours and I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone.

Not tacky and thought provoking

Had read about others experiences so that helped set the scene. Not so much a museum but an interactive room where, when you have your head sets on and you have verbal commentaries on around 100 photos/exhibits available to you, you are "on your own" to listen and reflect on the tragedy.Makes you think about the aftermath and the work that went on in the months thereafter. Two hours passed very quickly

A touching reminder of 9/11!!!
Mon, Nov 9  12:00 PM RobynWells Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
It gave me chills to see such a nicely put together collection of items from the tragic 9/11 sight! It was also nice to be able to walk around, and even touch many of the items, while listening to touching stories on the headsets at our own leasure! Many times I was moved to tears, as were others around me, as we moved about the room! I will not forget my experience at your tastefully done exhibit! I would certainly recommend it to anyone planning on visiting the New York City area!

Heavy on the Heartstrings

The dvd presentation and displays are excellent and the museum is definitely worth a visit. However, there was too much emphasis in the commentary on the photographer and his role. The actual event was so horrific that the Gladiator music, kleenex box and the occasionally over-melodramatic accounts were superfluous and attempt to play too heavily on the visitor's heartstrings. I also did not think it was neceassary to make so many religious references. At one point Suson (approximately) refers to the fact that the event happened because one culture didn't understand another. However the vast majority of muslims did not condone the terrorists' actions. The international condemnation of this appalling tragedy and Al-Qaeda's actions should remain secular rather than religious to avoid setting one religion against another.

Every American needs to visit this museum. Those small in size, it is overwelming in the impression it leaves on its visitors.

This was an AMAZING tour. Very emotional due to its up close and personal touches. I left feeling overwelmed in such a nice way. Thanks so much for all the time and effort this took to put together. The guides were knowledgable and friendly. LOVED IT!! although the people we purchased the tickets through were not the best. but the folks at the museum made up tri- fold for the rudeness. Thanks!!! ;)

Wonderful touching experience

Being directly involved in the 9/11 attacks -- worked in the trade center; commuted daily via Path -- and having a brother as an ironworker who was directly involved in the rescue efforts, I must say the museum was tastefully done. However, my ONLY negative feeling with this and any other museum is there is alot of concentration on the rescue efforts by the fireman & police, but few words are spoken of the construction workers who were at the site day and night. Other than that the GZMWT was worth visiting. The tour was more on a personal level. It's great b/c you have your OWN headphones and you can hear about any of the photos/artificats that YOU want to know about andas many times as you would like to hear it. There were some items from the Commuter Bar & Cafe that I visited many times - and just brought back some nice/fun memories for me. The narration that went along with all the pictures/artifacts was amazing as well. All in all it was a wonderful experience - I'm glad I did the research on it and went. I would visit again. if you are considering going - DEFINITELY GO. WELL WORTH IT. Oh and the chocolates are free!

Thought provoking.

Even though it was only a few 7 years ago, with the fast pace of life you do start to forget. The museum is a reminder that many lives were totally changed in a short hour of time. Was thrilled to see that artifacts were saved and that the photographer had the insight to realize this was a part of history and should be saved. In our throw away society this is often over looked, but they gave this museum another layer of intensity. This was recommended by a friend and I have since recommended to others.
