Fantastic experience

Extremely well set out displays and helpful staff. Personalised audio tour meant that you could look at exhibits in any order. Audio commentary really gave a flavour of the many intimate stories behind the amazing photographs. Incredible how much could be learnt from such a small exhibition area. Highly recommended. Well worth the time and money. Book ahead as tour numbers are limited. An experience that will stay with you long after you return home.

A Must See!

All Americans (and anyone for that matter) must see this museum. It puts a face to a senseless tragedy at the same time serving a reminder of how great our country and Americans are and can be. Amazing photographs with touching stories to go with each. Highly recommend.

Emotionally Powerful

As a volunteer firefighter, was a member of the fire co when the event happened, had a rescue company dispatched to NYC for cover assignment, and most recently came to find out that my daughter's friends father perished, I was emotionally overcome. If you have had any connection prior to your visit you too will be overwhelmed by emtion. This is a photo gallery that is about 40' by 40'. There are over 90 photographs with explainations for each in the photographers own words. it is audio-tour, you go at your own pace. It is impossible to listen to all the explainations as you have about 75 minutes to listen to the photograph explainations. The intro videos they show set the mood for sadness and power to survive. The public transportation directions that were given were very good. I am not sure how much embellishment was made in the explainations of the photos. The middle of the gallery is set up like a living room so visiting surviving firefighters can feel comfortable. Speaking of comfort, due to the overwhelming nature of the gallery, tissues are provided and encouraged. For some this will be a healing visit, and others will feel in touch with what firefighters dealt with that day.

wonderful tribute to those who gave their lives

Amazing place! Makes you think and think about what happened that day. For a room that is only 1000 square feet, full of information and artifacts displayed and explained in an informative way. A must see. It is informative tribute, images are moving and thought provoking. We were lucky enough to attend on a day when Gary Suson (founder and photographer) was in residence.

Best Tourist Spot we visited

Paid a visit to this little museum with my 15 year old daughter, who thought it was going to be boring. Turned out to be the most facinating and interesting 2 hours for both of us that we spent in New York.

My family and I are from Seattle and did the tour on our 3rd day in NYC. We were so moved by all the aritifacts and pictures in the museum. I would recommend it to friends and families who visit your great city. Our family family will never forget 9/11. Thank you.

Very worthwhile!

Family with kids ages 10 - 14. Enjoyed by all. They each said this was one of the top highlights of our 3-day NYC tour. The 9/11 catastrophe (virtually all focusing on the clean-up) is presented in a way that it made a profound impact and yet was not too emotionally devastating for my kids (who did not lose a loved one). Each of the many photos and recovered items is accompanied by a story. The exhibit is very thoughtfully done and makes 9/11 so real, in a way that just looking at ground zero cannot.

Shocking, but a bit lack of content

The museum offers a great experience, but it's a bit too small and a bit lack of content for the price it is charging.

Never Forget - You must see this collection

We did not know what to expect here. We saw some good reviews online and decided to check it out. This is a small place tucked into the meat packing district but it is well worth the effort to get there. The photographs and artifacts take you right into the world experienced by the NYFD in the aftermath of this terrorist attack. Plan to spend about 2 hours here and bring your Kleenex.

Highly recommend

I highly recommend this museum for all ages, especially mid to older children. The pictures and stories behind them were truely touching. The artists narrations give an insight to the feelings and emotions in the aftermath of this tragedy. This was both mine and my 11 year old sons favorite 'site' to visit in New York.

Personal Perspective of 9/11
Sat, Dec 19, 09   11:00 AM bonniecastro Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This museum/workshop will show one an intimate and personal perspective of 9/11 from those who worked the recovery at ground zero in the aftermath. You get to learn about some of the small but powerful momentos found and see them first hand. A wonderful way to learn about what took place at ground zero after the devastation but equally heartbreaking to hear about the people who worked, lost, and passed away at ground zero.

A very moving exhibition

The 2 hour experience is extremely well done. The movie and explanation in the beginning provide an excellent backdrop and the detailed explanations thereafter using the headphones give concise and very effective explanations which clarify and move one beyond belief (and this is all done in one room). Very often one feels overwhelmed by the amount to see in a museum. Each artifact in this one room exhibition contributes qualitatively to both fact and feeling in a most respectful way making it a significant tribute to this very traumatic event.

Outstanding Museum that Everyone Should Visit

This was my first time in New York. My husband and 11 year old son, and I wanted to see Ground Zero. I found out about this museum and prebooked tickets. This is a wonderful collection of narrated photographs that put you right in the middle of the search and rescue. The artifacts that are there are filled with such emotion. The museum is filled with reverence and respect for not only those who lost their lives, but the families left behind. This is an amazing place and I would recommend it for anyone over the age of understanding. My son is almost 12 and he took away a great deal of knowledge from that fateful day. The guides are wonderful and available to answer all questions.

A little disappointing
Thu, Dec 17, 09   11:00 AM katrina7707 Female 40-49 International Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
After reading the glowing reviews online about this museum, my expectations were high. I think it is easier for foreign tourists to be a bit more objective about this museum, as apposed to domestic visitors who understandably are very emotional and much more devastated about the impact of this great tragedy of our modern time, which happened on their own shores. I love photography, and the images captured were very dramatic and moving. However, as others have mentioned in previous reviews, I felt it inapropriate that so much emphasis was on the the Photographer resonsible for these images. It was almost relegating him to hero status, which he is not. Just over an hour was enough for me, and for another american visitor, who precisely shared my feelings. I don't wish to appear critical, but this is my honest, objective opinion, and not one based on an emotional experience. It must be said, I was moved to tears during my visit. I would recommend this museum to friends, however, the glowing reviews to my mind, are not justified.
