Top NYC Historical Site
Fri, Aug 28  1:00 PM ritaboyer Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My husband and I are from MO and haven't had a chance to visit NYC since the tragic September 11 terrorist attacks so when we made our way to down to the Ground Zero site we were disappointed there was only construction going on there although we still said a prayer for all of the lives lost there. We then stumbled upon the Ground Zero Musuem website and hesitantly booked tickets not having any idea what we were going to see. We were overwhelmed with emotion as well as grateful that the memories of that day are not lost completely. The currator has preserved moments in time and stories through pictures that capture the day and months following the tradegy at the same time showing a deep respect for the victim's familes. All proceeds are donated to the benefit of the 911 victims' families and other related charities. I wouldn't miss it and as a matter of fact, I would like to go back and have the time to inspect and absorb each and every remenant and picture in the museum. The staff was very knowledgeable and courteous.

A must see if you are visiting New York

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop Tour is a must on your agenda if you are visiting New York. Gary Suson was the official photographer at Ground Zero for the Uniformed Firefighter's Association and Uniformed Fire Officer's Association, and it is his pictures which you will see. He also recovered a number of items from the site, which would have otherwise been destroyed. Emotionally the Workshop Tour is an informative look at the horrific event that shook the world on September 11, 2001. With the photos and items on view from the Ground Zero site - each has a story which you can hear through audio and so gain a personal insight into that day - a day we should never forget.

A must see...hands down!

Unlike any museum you've ever seen. Tasteful, personal, sad, and honorable... will tug at your heart strings like nothing else. A much needed respectful display to honor that day never to be forgotten. Our children were quite little when 911 happened. Now, at ages 13 and 15 it was a moving experience that placed the missing pieces together for them; and us as well. Just to give you an idea: not a big cold building but a quaint small room quiet and serene with more information and memories that you could ever imagine. You see, you touch, and you will feel. Although a very heavy experience, one that no true Native New-Yorker should miss. Tips...Don't be late, a short movie is first and nothing you ever ever seen on tv. Try to see the last tour so you can take your time...so much to see and hear about. Bring a camera for sure. And if Gary is coming...wait for him...meeting him was a healing moment. And gal pals...wear waterproof mascara if any at all. Families...do something fun afterward like wax museum. And last but not least.....please tell Gretchen (who is wonderful) that Kim sent you. last words....Worth every dollar and moment of our time, would do it again in a heart beat.

I was very moved by the Ground Zero Museum Workshop and Tour.Having all those pictures and artifacts in such a small room made it seem like I was actually there with Gary. I was lucky enough to meet Gary at the Museum . It really put a face to everything I had seen.

a good experience, but not amazing

I was very excited at the thought of seeing video footage and images of september 11 that were hidden from the public. I thought it would be a surreal and emotional experience that every person should see, if only out of respect for those that lost their lives. While a lot of the images were touching, I thought I would have seen a lot more of the aftermaths of 9/11 than were presented on the walls of the musuem and in the video I saw. Not that I wanted to see human remains or anything like that, but most of the images were of inaminate objects that had been found in the remains. That being said, I would definitely go to the musuem, more because of that fact that the money you spend on your ticket goes to 9/11 related charities than anything else. That is reason enough, though you may gain more from the experience than I did - just dont expect to be blown away by what you see and you'll enjoy it.

The museum is small but well worth a visit. I like the way you can listen to the stories behind each artifact on yr own headphones and in yr own time. Very informative, and although deeply saddening I would def recommend

The exhibit touched our hearts

I visited NYC with my 11 year old daughter for two days and decided to take her to the Ground Zero Museum Workshop Tour. She was too young when the terrorist attacks occurred on 9/11/01, so even though by now she knew about the tragedy, she had never seen images about it. This was her first exposure to this sad event in history, and a great introduction to then talk about and view actual media coverage of the events of that day. The exhibit is very rich in details and the stories behind the images are so compelling you can't help but become emotional at times even if you were not directly affected by the 9/11 attacks. However, it is very appropriate for children, especially pre-teens. I am glad we chose this destination as part of our itinerary while in NYC. I'll always remember it, but most importantly my daughter will. The museum is very small, so minimize the bags (even small purses) or luggage you bring along, or you will have to check it in before entering. However, don't be too concerned about having your valuable personal items out of sight, since the "check in" area is just a corner within the single room you will be in for the whole 2 hours of your tour. There's a brief introduction by one of the museum tour guides, followed by a short video (no disturbing images of plane crashings) and then you are on your own to browse and listen to the audio tours (headphones) at your leisure Two hours seems like a lot of time, However, I didn't get to go through it all. I missed about 10 items or so, so pace yourself. It is best perhaps to go through it all and then return to the items you want to spend more time on. It is very easy to get to it by Subway. We were staying close to the Rockefeller Center and debated whether to get a taxi to go there. I'm glad we chose the subway. We save $$$ and time by taking the E line, an got there in no time. There's plenty of places close by to grab a bite before or after your tour.

Perceptive and Dignified Expressions

This was my second visit to NYC and this wonderful museum in two years. Since my visit last year I have spoken to many, many people about the "must-see" exhibit. Gary has to be the most perceptive and respectful professional photographer in the world. You must not visit NYC without visiting Ground Zero Museum Workshop for a true up close and personal 911 experience. The small space is packed with so many touching pictures and memorabilia items My opinion is that every American should see this exhibit.

Tough on the emotions but a must see!

We we're all affected by 9/11 and this workshop is a reminder of the events that followed after the attack. It was what I expected and more. Somehow through all the images comes a sense of hope; maybe when you see the determination of the rescuers recorded on film it's a reminder of the need to keep things in perspective as we move through our lives.. Well done!

Surprisingly different than expected

I found the museum tour very interesting with lots of opportunities for personal thoughts, quite different than the attribute to 9/11 museum I visited at ground zero as well. Some of the pictures and items are unforgettable and quite emotional. Please keep this formula alive, I will recommend it to others.

Incredible. This is a must see attraction if you're visiting NYC. Don't let the size of the museum fool you, you'll need all 2 hours to absorb everything.
