Cleaning up the mess of the terrorists
|

This Museum is primarily intimate, meaning involving, personal, not commercial or sales oriented. The museum is a single room, and not that big, but contains many exhibits of the clean-up after the terrorist attacks of 9/11/01. They do make the most of what they have. If you're given to emotion, you will shed a tear somewhere amongst the exhibits.
The exhibits are mostly one-of-a-kind photographs taken during the Ground Zero rescue attempts and recovery of remains. There are artifacts and the staff give you a personal orientation before allowing you to spend time with the exhibits and your personal headphone set with stories about each arifact/picture. Your time is limited and you don't realize how fast it goes until the next group needs to come in.
The Museum could also be called small or crowded. The size of the group viewing the displays at any one time is limited, but the size of the room is limitied, too. There are plenty of places to sit to view exhibits, but you will be right next to someone else you probably don't know. You need to keep all your personal stuff (backpack, etc.) with you, so that makes bumping into people a given.
The Museum is located on an industrial street near the Hudson River. There is no waiting area, and your time inside the museum is limited. If you arrive early you will be standing on a dirty concrete sidewalk with no place to sit. The sidewalk is not crowded, but there is vehicular traffic. The museum is on the second floor; handicapped access will be difficult The building has other occupants over which the museum has no control. There was constuction going on in one of the offices when we went.
The Museum does not address the attacks themselves nor the unnecessary murder of so many victims by hardened, evil people trying to make a political statement. The elephant in this little room is never even mentioned: why was this rescue/recovery effort made part of American history? There is only one photograph of one tower collapsing.
The Museum is well worth the time, expense, and effort of the provided experience. The patriot in me would have liked to see a message somewhere that this City and Country were attacked, making this rescue/recovery necessary. |

We asked about visiting Ground Zero and were given a brochure about this museum. We were surprised at the price but thought it could be worth it. We were confused that it wasn't at Ground Zero. Our tour was in the afternoon so we walked to Ground Zero first and saw another memorial at the site, which I believe was created by the victims. We thought this one looked like the experience we were looking for. Obviously, we couldn't stay because we had to get to the place we had the reservations for. The museum was in one tiny upstairs room. The film was blurry and merely a repeat of an interview from a TV show. The talk felt like it was "priming" everyone to get emotional, tissue boxes and all. The photographs were good, but many I had seen before. I didn't get it. September 11th is a personal thing so perhaps some people will like this museum. I just felt ripped off. |

This is a much different "Sept 11th" activity that we have experienced in past NY visits. Intimate museum space, with interesting narration of the events surrounding 9-11 at whatever pace one desires, and some terrific exhibits in addition to all the photos.. |

DO NOT ATTEND WITH CHILDREN UNDER 7

THIS IS AN AUDIO TOUR! If you have anyone under 7 or that you do not buy a ticket for they will not be able to hear anything. Also my child was very cranky and we were asked to leave. I wish I could have gotten a refund. Too small for children under 7. Especially for 2 hours inside a bedroom sized apartment. |

The tour was great lots of amazing things, images, and stories. It would have been nice to have the things a little more spread out to be able to take them in without being overwhelmed. It also would be nice to have a little more time to explore, we ran out and didn't get to listen to all of the items. But overall a unique experience that I would recommend to anyone. |

With Gary's first hand account of scenes from the site, you can't help but engage with his feelings and emotion.
Totally gripping and a must see whilst in The Big Apple.
Be prepared to shed a tear or two!

The ground zero museum was a very moving expeience for both of us.
As we are both Paramedics and i am also a Fire-Fighter in the uk.
The ground zero museum is a mest see for anyone in the emergency services.
The staff there were first class and very helpful.
The firefighter (Gary) that took the potos of gorund zero was also there to talk to us. |

Our group consisted of 13 and 14 year old Canadian female ice hockey players. The unique format of the exhibit allowed me to introduce/present what I, an adult, know to be important information in a way that was not obviously "educational". |

Wow !!! This is not Ground Zero, but so what? This is an amazing place. After a short presentation, you are set free to view all of these photos, and told that it isn't uncommon if you feel great emotion. Don't hold it in, this in powerful stuff, and don't miss this place. |

I would recommmend this tour and workshop to anyone. The images and the sounds reinforced the terror and human impact of this event. We were all very quiet for a period of time after leaving the tour.
A must-see for any visitor to New York. |

I found out about this workshop by searching the internet. I'm from Vancouver BC and remember waking up September 11th after most of the events had already taken place (due to the time zone and my sleeping in). It was extremely emotional to see the footage and actual artifacts from that day. I thought it was very tastefully put together and they definitely keep the best interests of the families effected at heart. I have already recommended the workshop to a friend travelling to New York in August. |

Mother's Day Weekend - Mother & daughter from Vermont
Our trip to the 9/11 museum was just outstanding. We've both experienced several museums in NYC, but have never been moved quite like our visit to the 9/11 museum. Both my mother and I enjoy learning about history but more importantly, learning about the symbolism of history and that is what this museum was all about for us. The 9/11 museum might be small in space, but not with information. We learned so much more about that day and the many days that followed the 9/11 attacks. Gary Suson's ability to capture history, the event, and symbolism of that day and after is just amazing. The old saying of "You get out of it what you put into it" is how I can best describe this museum. If you want to learn more about that day and the impact of that day on the many people involved, go to this museum. You just won't believe some of the things you hear and learn - just amazing! Worth every penny.
Thanks so much!
