A great insight to a tragic event

This is a must-visit museum with beautiful stories and interesting artifacts. You can hold history in your hands. My only criticism is that it felt as though it had religious undertones to it and so if this bothers you, you might need to be able to seprate the event from this.

A very sensitive and moving tribute. Everyone was touched during their time at the museum. Would recommend that those with small children refrain as it is intended to be an evironment for quiet reflection.

A Beautiful Rememberance of those lost on 9/11

I wasn't sure what to expect from this tour but hoped that it was respectful, meaningful and offered a sense of peace vs. a sense of reliving the nightmarish day all over again. It was all that and more. The setting provided a very soothing envrironment in which you could be comfortable crying, praying or simply remembering. It offered an incredible insight into the lives of those who were directly affected, particularly the firefighters of NYC. I didn't feel as if I was intruding in their stories but rather I was able to find a better appreciation than ever before for their incredible sacrifices. I highly recommend this tour to anyone - whether you lost someone on 9/11 or not. I did not and am forever grateful for that. Thank you for letting me get to know these incredible heroes.

The photos were amazing and the museum guides were very knowledgeable. Gary Suson is a remarkable photographer and story teller.

What a moving, tastefully done experience. the employees are warm and knowledgable and the owner/artist was kind and very interested in our experience. i would recommend this to anyone. My only negative thought is that there should be no babies/small children allowed. Even though I have small ones- I did not take them and the presence of even the best behaved ones there detracted from the experience. i think minimum age of 8 or 10 for sure. Otherwise, this was the best thing I did in NYC- topping the Met, ballet, broadway, ground zero and foodie tour.

Over-commercialism of a tragic event
Thu, Dec 13, 07   11:30 AM fredcu Male 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
It seemed to us that the photographer has taken advantage of his position to do some very unattractive self-promotion. Much silliness here--kleenex boxes to absorb the tears which the slick film clips were designed to bring, forbidding the picture-taking of a piece of an aircraft because " a piece had been cut off by the heroic photographer and given to a grieving person" Everything just too "slick" for me. The solicited tears appeared to be the prelude to sale of the shirts and souveniers. Why this location? Why not at ground zero? Our visit to St. Pauls Chapel was much more meaningful to us- made this activity unnecessary and in bad taste.

An event that we will remember for ever.

We knew it would be memorable from the previous reviews but nothing can prepare you for the 2 hours that you spend with Gary. The film footage is particularly emotional and we now understand the need for the boxes of tissues placed around the room. The tour of the images and artifacts is very professionally presented, please take time and try to see & hear them all. Don't be afraid to shed a tear. And please buy the book "Requiem". We did and will one day hand it to our Grandchildren to help them understand how the world changed forever on 9/11.

TASTEFUL and MOVING

I, along with three of my girlfriends from the UK, visited the museum on Dec 11th 2007. We were not at all certain what to expect, hoping it would not dwell on the morbid. Our main purpose was to pay our respects to all those who lost their lives on Sept 11th, also to their families and friends. We need not have been concerned. From the moment we rang the bell, we were warmly welcomed by Lou, who gave the talk, also Gary Suson himself who happened to be at the museum that day. We appreciated the ability to absorb the exhibits in our own time. The hand held commentary devices were ideal. We found the entire experience to be moving and a great testimonial to the ultimate love and comradeship of the "first responders" Thank you Gary

Too much emphasis on the photographer.
Mon, Dec 10, 07   12:00 PM sqweeny Female 30-39 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This exhibition has the potential to be very interesting. However, there is way too much emphasis on the photographer Gary Suson. The museum seems to be more about him than Ground Zero. The stories are quite schmaltzy and it is almost easy to forget what a horrific event this actually was. In addition, there were some silly rules, like not being able to photograph the part of the aircraft yet being able to photograph everything else. There were some interesting stories like the beer cans and the dogs.

Please make every effort to attend this museum if you are visiting New York. The program was amazingly put together and brought you much closer to events which impact America and each of us as individuals. Please do not miss this opportunity!

Fantastic! Do Not Miss This Opportunity!

My husband and I visited the Ground Zero Museum Workshop on our first and only tourist visit to New York.  With so much to see and so little time, we were torn with where to go and how best to spend our time.  We are so happy we chose to visit the Museum!  We were extremely impressed and moved!  It was definitely the highlight of our trip.  We loved the intimacy of the setting with the small space and small groups.  We were not rushed and felt comfortable expressing emotions and asking questions.  We had the great opportunity to meet Gary Suson the photographer; who was so gracious and willing to share his experience with us.  His work is amazing!  He brought to life the real events and rescue efforts that happened after 9/11.  Not an activity for young children, but everyone who is old enough to hear about 9/11 should see this exhibit.  It was created with taste and respect.  It made us proud to be an American and proud of the brave men and woman within our boarders who help to protect us everyday (fire fighters, police, rescue workers, iron workers, etc.)  We hope that someday this exhibit will travel around the U.S. so it can be shared with many others. Bravo!  Thank you for bringing this to the public.

It far exceeded my expectations. We were lucky in that the photographer conducted the tour and his descriptions and stories were utterly moving. We had tears in our eyes, but they were tempered by pride and, yes, joy that our country came through this stronger than ever. Everyone should see this.

Even though I am not American you cannot come here and NOT be touched and moved by the displays at the Ground Zero Workshop Museum. It's not large, but it's very well thought out and even manages to show humorous moments as well as very sad stories to hear about. You will see photos, pieces of glass from the World Trade Center, you can even touch it! You will be given an audio guide with numbers on the items which will explain to you what they are and what they mean. Staff are available to help and answer questions. One of the highlights of my visit to New York!

Excellent

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop Tour was excellent and I highly recommend it. Mr. Gary Suson, the official photographer at Ground Zero, was present during our tour which was an extra plus. The photos are moving and the narration is extremely informative with a personal touch. The only possible downside is the location which is a little inconvenient. I had my mother with me who is in her upper 70's and the stairs were a little tough for her. No one offered her the use of the elevator.
