HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This exhibit was SO well done and the PERFECT combination of sensitivity to the heartache of that day and the days that follow and tribute to those who served that day and the days after. The intimacy of the venue and the small group setting made for a wonderful tribute to our country's spirit and resiliance.

My husband and I had visited NY 14 years ago and had been fortunate enough to go up the twin towers, so on our recent trip to NY we decided to visit the workshop and were not disappointed. From the minute you are met outside to the moment you leave, it is a very moving experience. Although only held in a small room, the impact was great; the pictures and artifacts were fascinating. You are given a walkie - talkie with headphones and this gives information about each picture or item you wish to hear about by pressing a number on the handset. Gary arrived while we were there and had a chat to us - you cannot imagine what he must have seen. I would thoroughly recommend this on your trip to New York.

Words cannot describe.

If you don't do anything else in NYC, do this! It is perhaps more important than visiting the Ground Zero site itself. It is probably the most emotional experience I have ever had. When you first go in, you see that there is only one room and you think "this doesn't look that imposing"........ I could have spent hours there. The pictures, the stories, the artifacts--it is the closest you can get to the actual experience of having been there during the recovery. Truly, words cannot adequately describe this experience.

Was only OK

The "museum" is more like a gallery, with the official photographer's best photos in the year after 9/11/01. There are only a few artifacts, and a few special ones.

moving and informative but slightly disappointing

Found this collection of photos fascinating and informative and the story that was given by headphones for each picture was extremely moving and I will admit I felt very chocked at times, however, I felt that the room that the exhibition was in was very small and I felt slightly claustraphobic after about 1 1/2 hours. It was fascinating to see remnants on show from that historic day but to be honest when I heard about the other tribute centre based at the Groubd Zero site on which you were taken on a walking tour of the site with a guided tour given by someone who was actually involved on the day sounded far more informative and i really wish I had done that tour instead. However, it was worth doing but did find it rather expensive and the books etc. on sale were very expensive. It certainly made you think though of how awful that day was and how the streets were full of panic and the bravery that people from all walks of life showed that day.

Tasteful and touching.

We were very pleased not to find a huge, commercialized venture exploiting victims and rescuers. The kleenex boxes provided were well used.

Great - uplifting. And we were lucky enough that the man who was responsible for the Museum was there so we were able to speak to him first hand and have him answer any questions.

Puts a human face on the tragedy of 9/11

At first we thought the museum was quiet small and weren't sure what to expect, but each picture and each artifact had its own story-we were the last one's to leave! We gathered so much information from our short time there-learned much more about what many people went through, especiallty the firefighters. We know people who volunteered and we watched countless hours of television, this musuem gave us a different perspective. Good for those who want to heal and those that want to remember to never take things for granted.

I appreciate all the work Gary put into creating tghe Ground Zero Museum, and how much he acknowledged the need for God and faith in a disaster of this nature and magnitude. The stories were special and from the heart; they helped us to connect with those that were directly involved in the disaster/recovery. Everything was done in good taste and with the utmost of respect and honor for the grieving families. We are from the West coast, and at the time of the disaster our son was 9 years old. He was very interested in what happened and in details about the twin towers themselves. My husband had scheduled a trip to NYC with our son in 2006, but had to cancel it due to my father's funeral; visiting the museum was a highlight of this trip, especially for our son. We were also very grateful that we had the opportunity to meet Gary and thank him personally.

Wonderful Experience!

The advertisements read right when it says that this workshop is the "Biggest Little Museum" in New York City. I liked how it focused on the recovery efforts and it is hard to leave this place without being touched and having a mark left on your heart. The personal, intimate stories were very touching! My favorite part about the entire experience was that the museum was in a smaller, more intimate space. It had the atmosphere of a cozy living room, which made it feel more at home and comfortable. I also enjoyed being able to physically see some of the artifacts from the tragedy!

Difficulty in finding the address

There is no clear address stated to Ground Zero museum. The instructions say it is near to Subway station with vague directions. It is far in distance than described. It will be good if a small sketch of map is provided on ticket so that visitors can see the map and come instead of calling continuously the museum people.

Moving, but a bit like a school presentation

I loved the pictures and stories behind the photos and items here. I just wasn't a fan of the set up, it was like hearing someone give an opening statement in a trial having to listen to the 2 college students talk at the beginning of the tour. They moved around the room as they spoke about certain pictures, which was not very comfortable as you had to turn around in your seat (opposite of where the TV was) to see what they were pointing out.

Provides a great perspective!

We visited the Ground Zero Museum after reading about it on Tripadvisor. Its a really small museum. At first we felt "Is this it?!" Thankfully by the end the experience makes an impact ! The video at the beginning is a TV interview with Gary, the photographer. Its a good introduction. However the lady introducing and explaining, could use a microphone as the audience at the back of the room can barely hear her. The pictures are nice, but what's best is the hand held audio guide and the description and story behind each picture. It REALLY transports the viewer to those days in 2001. One can truly connect with what the people went through then. Touching ! My young brother (14 yr) really loved the museum. Do make a stop.
