Emotionally moving experience

This was a tremendously powerful display of GroundZero images and artifacts in an intimate setting. The room is very small; there are couches and stools to sit on as you view the images and listen to the stories from the recovery efforts. They provide the Kleenexes--a good thing because you will need them! The day we were there, the photographer, Gary Suson, was there and visited with everyone and signed books and posters for us. I highly recommend this for anyone trying to understand the impact of 9/11. It was a highlight of our trip for all four of us.

Interesting

Suggest that the on-line booking or information website gives more background on what can be expected at the museum. When one talks of a museum you naturally assume that this is multi-levelled and has many rooms with artifacts and information. My husband and i were initially very disappointed in the museum - the first impression was not what we had expected. The introduction was interesting and the interaction with each item via your radio connection is a great idea. Too many people to be able to easily get to points when we needed to and the combination of an office and a museum was unexpected and perhaps not appropriate. Overall the museum was interesting and we learned alot from the experience.

personal, deeply moving tribute to 9-11 families

I would highly recommend this tour for individuals who want to comprehend the events of Sept 11th and their aftermath through the lens of the individuals and families who were among those most immediately affected by this terrible tragedy. The museum is really a small room with dozens of artifacts and pictures assembled to tell multiple stories of the people who died on that day as well as the firefighters and rescue workers tasked with the grim and solemn responsibility to recover bodies and dismantle the site. Each story and picture is unique in its own way; the cumulative effect puts a very human face on the devastation wrought by this inconceivable act of violence. The stories of these people are told by the photographer, Gary Susson, with great care, respect, and love though pictures and spoken words. Viewing the pictures and hearing stories was my own act of remembrance that had more personal value than had I merely visited the Ground Zero site.

Our Lives can change in an instant!

This was one of the most impressive things we saw on our visit to NYC in 2008 "Lest We never Forget" It was so poignant without being obtrusive and gory. The pictures told a 1000 words and the audio attached to each picture told the story of that particular picture to the fullest. The whole thing had deep meaning-one left this exhibit/lecture feeling a connection to those who not only left us on this fateful day but also to the loved ones they left behind. I would recommend it highly to ech and everyone who visits NYC

A meaningful experience

Like my reaction to the events of 9/11 my workshop experience was very personal. As a native New Yorker living on the west coast I felt a need to be more connected to those affected by the tragedy. I have always felt something was "missing" for me because I wasn't there when it happened and so I made a special trip to New York to visit Ground Zero and the Museum Workshop. Seeing the photos of the rescue workers, hearing the stories behind the photos, and actually being able to touch pieces of the World Trade Center gave me the connection and understanding I was looking for. It's a very powerful experience and one that should not be missed. Never forget.

This museum takes you back to the recovery of Ground Zero as if you are there. It is a poignant reminder of what heroes those men and women were.

A Must Visit For All New York Visitors

Whilst we were initially surprised at the size of the museum, we don't think that there was anything more that could be fitted into this experience. The photography combined with the audio commentary ensured that you were truly involved with the exhibition. We found the visit a very moving experience and would recommend it highly to everyone who shouldn't foget that awful day.

A disappointment

It was just an "o.k." exhibit, not as good as what I had expected from reading previous reviews. There was much repetition from the video, handout, guide comments and the actual exhibit.

Amazing!

We are from Kansas and when our tour bus dropped us off at the actual Ground Zero site, we were suprised. At this time there wasn't anything to see or no where to basically pay our respects. We spoke to our hotel about that and they suggested we go to the Ground Zero Museum workshop. We had them immediately call and we scheduled our reservation. My husband and I, along with my parents and our 2 kids (age 6 and 9) made our way down to the museum in the meat packing district. We were a bit alarmed where we ended up and then to find it was a 1 room facility at first we thought we had been took. But 2+ hours later, I had to be pulled from the place. The interactive set up is nothing short of amazing. Both of my kids spent a lot of time going through all the different things we could listen to. It held their attention for the entire 2 hours. We had the last slot of the day so we were told we could stay as long as we liked. I found it all extremely moving. This isn't a museum describing what led up to that awful day, but a memorial to the people that worked tirelessly for 6 months after 09/11 and the people that perished that horrible day! The workers painstakingly trying to find the remains in the most respectful way they could. Amazing is how all 6 of us described it. I laughed, I cried and I was in held in AW for the entire time. I would suggest this wonderful place to anyone who can remember that fateful day in September 2001! It is a wonderful tribute to all that died and all that worked the site after the event. Gary, the photographer/artist happened to be there the day we visited (which happened to be Memorial Day 2008) and he was an amazingly genuine person. He took the time to speak to both of my kids. He didn't hover over them and worry about what they might do....he truly offered his words of help and support. We strongly suggest this place when you plan your New York tours. It is off the beaten path, but it will be the most memorable 2 hours of your trip!

I am a firefighter and I feel this display of photos, artifacts and stories was done in a very tasteful and heartfelt manner. It touched my heart. It keeps those who lost their lives on that horrible day ... very much alive. Awesome collection.

Excellent Museum Workshop
Mon, May 26, 08   2:00 PM dltubbs Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This activity is a must for anyone who wants an "insider view" to the post 9/11 work at the World Trade Center Ground Zero site. The two hours allocated to this workshop is barely enough to take in all of the information available at this activity. This workshop tour may not hold the attention of small children for the entire two hours as it is a self guided activity, though there are artifacts from the World Trade Center Ground Zero site that will hold everyone's attention for at least the first hour. I highly recommend this tour as a non-strenuous way to remember the events of September 11, 2001 and the ensuing months of recovery work at the site.

The Ground Zero Workshop is a must see! Attend the workshop and then head to Ground Zero to see it in person. The workshop was very informative and was very sensitive to the issues at hand. Well worth the money spent. A once in a life time opportunity.

Don't Miss!

After reading other reviews, we decided to take a chance on this one and we're so glad that we did. This is a very small but powerful museum. We met Gary the photographer, and what he has done is a true gift to all of us. The film and audio of the photographs were not only amazing, they were respectful and dignified, a wonderful tribute to the families of the victims of this unimaginable attack on our country. The setting is initimate and the group size small so that you can take your time to examine and think upon each photograph. The artifacts from Ground Zero and the personal stories allow you relive September 11, renew your patriotic spirit and have a personal insight into the entire process following the attack. Make this #1 on your list of things to do in New York City! You won't be disappointed.

Overall the small museum provided a great perspective focused on the recovery process at ground zero. The photos were exceptional, and the stories behind them provided a personal view of the experience. The museum was primarily photography; however there were several artifacts from ground zero that provided an additionally chilling experience.
