So Amazing

This museum is absolutely amazing. I loved that it was self guided so that I could take my time and look for as long as I wanted, but I also liked that we did have a "tour guide" so to say who was very informative and friendly. The pictures are amazing and the stories behind them are unbelievable. I didn't lose anyone on September 11th but this museum touched me beyond words. I would go back again and again. Definately a must see if you visit NYC!

A FANTASTIC MUSEUM HIGHLIGHTING THE PLIGHT OF THE FIREFIGHTERS AFTER 9/11. BRILLIANTLY PORTRAYED AND VERY MOVING. A MUST FOR ANY VISIT TO NEW YORK TO UNDERSTAND 9/11

Insightful and worth the trip

The museum is well thought out and detailed. The "tour guides" were knowledgable and helpful. The content precludes saying "we enjoyed it". That said, we came away with a better understanding of the recovery period and a lasting heart felt memory for those lost in 9/11. I am glad we added it to our very short trip to New York and recommend it to everyone.

This really put me there on the morning of 9/11 better than anything else I have heard or read. This was something that was meaningful to me, my husband and my 13 year old son.

Very emotional.

I thought the tour was great and very emotional for myself and family, since we lost my cousin Margaret Conner and friends on that fateful day of 911. I recommend this tour to everyone who is a human being. It shows just how fragile life can be for us all. This day is now a part of history and we must never forget that horrible day and the events that followed. The Museum Tour will help us with remembering 911, the day that changed us all in some way. Regards, Gene Reilly.

Very moving.

The fact that the museum is so small makes it so much more brilliant. The atrocities of 9/11 need to be remembered and this museum provides a vital inner viewpoint. The astonishing remnants from the buildings alongside the images with their moving stories really does make for a very good 2 hours.

pleasantly surprised - more than I expected

The combination of the verbal introductory overview by the staff person, followed by the video portion of the tour, followed by the free time in the museum with the listening headset made for a very insightful and enlightening event. More than I expected going in and very nicely done. Very informative, moving and touching; and brought the pain and loss of the 9-11 victims and their families closer to home for the many of us who were witnesses of the event from a distance on television. It also drove home the exhausting, dedicated work of the rescue and recovery personnel that went on for months after the attack. The simplicity of the venue and the simple but well done method of conducting the exhibit and tour complimented the subject matter.

Enough has been said in the other 1200+ reviews, what a full 2 hour program. My only comment, the guide should follow her own rules. Silence your cell phones! She talked most of the time we had our self guided tour, we could actually hear her through our headsets. If she was not talking, she was packing/unpacking boxes, that annoying sound of packing tape coming off the roll.

Great Alternative to Ground Zero

We were very impressed by this unique museum. Don't be put off by the outside look of the building and the entrance (it is located in the Meat Packing District). The artifacts and photos are presented in a very professional and sensitive manner, and you are given an audio device that is very informative. You might find this an emotional experience.

I wasn't sure what to expect when we bought our tickets but this was a very emotional experience and one I would strongly recommend. The "self guided" tour of the photographs and artifacts is fabulous and the narration explaining each one is thoughtful and respectful.

One of the most meaningful experiences in NYC

During my visit I did a lot of the touristy things like the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, Rockafeller Center, etc. But my time at the Ground Zero Museum is the one that touched my soul. I'm from MN and I watched this tradegy unfold from a far. The following week I went to NJ to help establish an operations hub for our NYC displaced employees. I listened to their stories, cried with them for their missing friends and families and tried to help them in any way I could. Spending time in this museum helped me understand who the real heros are and gave me an appreciation for the sacrifice they made to bring loved ones home to rest and help friends and family find the closure they need. The museum is tastefully done, exteremely respectful of those that lost their lives during and after this tradegy. I'm thankful the facilities are small and the number of visitors are limited for each viewing. I cried a lot, laughed a little but mostly thanked God for the people that survived and those that give so deeply of themselves to help find missing friends and family of people they may never meet. This tribute gives them the honor and respect they deserve. An abosulte must see!

A Heartwarming Tribute to True American Heroes
Sat, Sep 12  11:00 AM traeflores Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My husband and I have traveled to NYC only twice--both times post-9/11. Our most recent trip on the weekend of 9/11, we wanted to schedule the GZMW to honor those who lost their lives in the WTC attacks. We were prepared to spend an emotional, tearful few hours, and quite honestly, we weren't sure how affected our emotions would be for remainder of our trip. I must say that although we shed tears of sorrow for the many lives lost so tragically and for the void left behind for their families, our hearts were bursting with pride and love for all those involved in the recovery efforts. Gary Susson is blessed with a gift of capturing on film the raw emotions involved throughout those many months of the recovery, and in the most tasteful and loving way. Thank you Mr. Susson, thank you NYFD, and thank you NYC for making us even prouder to be Americans.
