| This tour of the ground Zero museum was the best part of my trip. We booked our tour for Sept 11, 2009. The little room doesnt seem like much when you get there but by the end of the tour you realize just how much there really is. The setting is comfortable and the information is plentiful. Gary Suson did a little speech before the guide took over ( we were very lucky to be there on a day Gary Suson was there) Its very emotional and the stories heard are amazing, I could have went through the whole tour again if I could. If there is one thing on your list that should not be missed while visiting new york I would say this little museum is it. Gary Suson does an extremely amazing job at giving you an insight of what ground zero was really like and how everyone did the best they could to look after everyones loved ones and lost ones. | ||||||

| I was very personally attached to the tragedy that hit us all on September 11th. I did not lose anyone in New York, but knew people who worked and some who died at the Pentagon. I was obsessed with the news and baffled by what I thought could never happen to our home. I wasn't sure what to expect when I walked into a room the size of a small apartment. Once the tour started I was engulfed in a wave of emotion. As this young girl starting explaining how this small but powerful place was created, it took you back to 2001. I imagined what it must have been like to be in the middle of such devastation, and be the one with the resonsiblity of documenting it so that none of us would ever forget the slap in the face we received on that day. I knew nothing of the man who was capturing these moments in time, but as the photographs crossed the screen, I felt an ache in my heart for how hard it must have been. The fact that he was in the room with us at the time made it all the more intense. Once the presentation was done, and we began to look around, you realized just how special this place and this person were. I found myself hugging people I didn't know who were just as touched as I was. I want to thank him for having the strength to take the charge and keep the memory alive so that no one is forgotten. | ||||||

Insightful reflections that touch the heart

| An insightful reflection on 9/11 and the months that followed at Ground Zero. Gary's photographs provide an important record of the impact on NYC and it's residents and tell the story of the horror, great sadness and loss that was and is 9/11, but the memorial museum does provide a sense of closure and helps those personally affected, to cope with the healing process. Gary pops in from time to time and is on hand to chat and sign copies of his book. We were fortunate to be there 9/11/09 and meet him. He is a lovely person and speaks from the heart. I would highly recommend visiting this little oasis of peace in the heart of nyc. | ||||||

| As the title says. We are from the Rep Of Ireland and were on holidays for a week in NY. The day we visited the centre was the anniversary of 9/11. Even though we live over 3 thousand miles away and were not really affected in a direct way by the tragedy i.e. we didn't lose or know any one killed in the unhumain taking of life that was experienced on that terrible day, we felt we had to visit this museum that propably has more info in one room than many of the big museums have all together in their big buildings. It is a very interseting and realistic view of what happened on that day and the following months. It has many items that were recovered from ground zero and this combined with all Garys photographs it is outstanding. I would also like to take this oppurtunity to thank all the staff who are so polite and sensitive to the cause and also to Gary Suson who was there on the day and made us all feel very welcome. I am saddened to say that this was one of the high lights of my trip to New York. We will ''NEVER FORGET''. Thank You Paul & Cathy. Limerick, Ireland. | ||||||

| I read all the great reviews for this museum, but had to see if for myself. I chose the day of 9-11 to attend and I still can't stop thinking of the museum. The museum was easy to find and we were able to wear headphones and listen to the stories behind the pictures (at your own pace). That was nice. The photography and layout of the museum are unique and to be able to touch/hold artifacts from the towers is also amazing. The stories behind the pictures were heartbreaking, but also showed human perseverance during a dark time. The books, postcards, and patches are also intriguing and reasonably priced. I highly recommend this museum to everyone. It has helped me heal. **Never forget** | ||||||

| My husband and I visited the museum on 9/11/09 It is very moving, I recommend it to anyone of any age. I was afraid it was not what I thought it was when I got the address after buying the tickets. Do not be put off by the address, it is off "the beaten track", but well worth the trouble getting there. Buying tickets ahead of time is pretty much a must since only 20 at a time are allowed to enter. I pray that there will never be a reason to have another museum like this | ||||||

| The beginning is inauspicious - a near-anonymous doorway; no grand entrance and (for a museum) a small space that acts as both auditorium and museum. The staff set the scene and slowly you feel your emotions gathering. The opening videos introduce you to the photographer/curator of this museum; trigger your memories of 'that day'; and raise a new awareness of the consequences. Now the emotions are truly active. Then you are left to tour the room of artifacts and photos - and you may feel, like me, why have they allowed you almost 90 minutes for this. Most (there are significant exeptions) of the artifacts touched me no more than 'landfill' ie. garbage; most of the pictures are not iconic (but are good documentaries) BUT the answer to the museum's attraction lies in the audio commentaries and stories that accompany every picture and the artifacts. You are drawn into the lives (and deaths) of many people (and animals) and it is here that everyone's emotions will be wrung by some aspect of what you hear. It is absorbing; disturbing and thought-provoking to hear of the tragedies of the day; the heroism of the subseqent weeks and the long-term affect on many lives thereafter. Suddenly your time is up - where did that last hour go? Did I hear all the commentaries? Have I missed a photograph? Overall, it's not an 'enjoyable' experience but a truly moving and enlightening one. Go and visit this museum and share the experience. It's worth it. | ||||||

| Learned a lot about what happened exactly this date, but not more thrilling than a tv documentary. Recommended for a rainy day... Better to do that than any of these boring museums in town, like this American Museum of Natural History ... | ||||||

| The ground zero museum was a very moving expeience for both of us. As we are both Paramedics and i am also a Fire-Fighter in the uk. The ground zero museum is a mest see for anyone in the emergency services. The staff there were first class and very helpful. The firefighter (Gary) that took the potos of gorund zero was also there to talk to us. | ||||||

| As the wife of a serving Firefighter I knew that this would be an emotional experience but also one which was uplifting too. The museum is set out in a way that you are able to learn all about the terrible events of 9/11 almost first hand. It was very moving to see how this awful event unfolded before us all , but filmed and told in such an understanding and sensitive way that makes it an absolutely essential place to experience. The museum itself is set in a fairly small area and is quite intimate so is only open to small parties of around 10 people at a time, so it is advisable to book in advance. It was uplifting because you can also read about how those involved are comming to terms with what happened and how life goes on after it. I would recommend this museum as no matter how far away you were on that date it was an event that touched all of us and it makes us realise how much people give through their work for others without a thought for themselves. The ultimate sacrifice. | ||||||

| Well worth the money and time if you are in New York City. The museum was not what I expected in a physical sense, it is in a smaller room, and the number of people are limited, so book early to save a spot. The room is surrounded by Suson's photographs of the recovery, each with individual stories or experiences narrated by Gary Suson. The stories and photographs depicting the aftermath of this disaster were very moving. There is a short video presentation in the beginning and then some hands on exhibits and stories. The rest of the time is spent listening to numerous stories and experiences during the months of the recovery operation. This was very nice because you could go at your own pace and listen to as much as you wanted, as many times as you wanted. I would suggest going to this museum first before heading down to ground zero, the Subway is short walk after the Museum tour and it takes you right to Ground Zero. A moving experience...NEVER FORGET | ||||||
