Great chance to see our local area

We all very much enjoyed seeing this part of the Hudson Valley, especially West Point. It was a hot, sunny day. The air conditioned dining room was nice for some of our guests. We packed a small cooler with snacks and sodas, which made the trip even better. Liked the narration and particularly liked the captain's extra information about specfic sites.

My Fiance and I go out on the Hudson every year for his birthday and this year we decided to go to the Castle I always see when we take the train to New York. We received a Dutchess County Tourism guide and when I saw you could actually go to the Island I called and got tickets that day! It was wonderful and our tour guide Gary was super nice and very knowledgeable. He made it fun and informative and also gave us adequate time to take pictures. I have recommended the tour to friends and family and we plan on coming back with our son!

The Tour Guides: Very nice people all around very extensive in the knowledge of the scotts and the islands history. My tour guide was a retired grade school history (now college PT) teacher and he knew alot about the place and he made it more interesting than just a few lines from someone. The older pictures he had in the binder as a history buff have never been able to find. The Island: Bannermans should provide an urban exploration tour with a more closer and detailed tour for people experienced in explorations of this nature.my girlfriend and myself have been doing more dangerous explorations than this for many yrs and are both very well experienced in places like this and the dangers of doing such an exploration.it will not be long before this place is completely gone and i personally would LOVE to document more of it on a more intimate level. The boat: I understand by the tour person 15 of the 30$ spent goes to the boat crew and 15 to the bannermans preserve which i do not feel is worth it considering there was 26 on my boat and 46 on the beacon boat not including the 2nd tour of the day and this only being sat with sunday tours coming even with fuel cost, bannermans people are all volunteer making nothing, the boat company is ripping people off to me for what it is.the 20 min ride a cpl miles up and across then back down on the hudson is by far over priced at 15$ and the boat company should be ashamed.over priced on sodas and snacks (glad i brought my own non-glass) beverages. Newburgh is a great city IF u know where to stay away from! be gone before dark and try to visit washingtons headquarters before or after the tour of bannermans.

Fun (and Education) in the Sun!

Our group of 13, which included 3 kids (ages 7-12) and 10 adults (ages ranging from 39 to mid-60s) found this to be a fun, educational and relaxing 2 hr trip on the Hudson River (they were all visiting me from Buffalo, NY) . We had a beautiful day! We brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed our view from the upper deck. The tidbits of history were fun and interesting. We all recommend this tour.

Views and history

The views of the area made this a nice outing. The history of the different ares was quite interesting. The only drawback was that people on the outside upper deck did not move around to allow others to also see the views.

We were told 'all weather ' for trips. We drove from Hyde Park to Beacon and waited for a trip that never ran. We were not notified so, just spent a few hours standing on the dock.

I realize that the buildings are dangerous and in disrepair however I wish we could have gotten closer to the structures. Also wish we could have gone down and spent time by the "breakwater" area. I think tour could have been longer.

Purchasing tickets was easy. Although we dressed for more rugged terrain, we soon realized that good sneakers and shorts would have been better attire than heavy hiking boots and long pants. The boat was clean and comfortable and the videos were well done and informative. Unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate and a thunderstorm made it necessary to abbreviate the trip -but that was certainly not under anyone's control. My one critical comment is that the tour guide was WAY too "wordy". Much of the information was superfluous. We spent too much time listening to him - especially with an impending storm. We could have seen a lot more if he'd stopped talking !!! The Bannerman Trust has done a beautiful job with gardens, and walkways. My photos are superb. It was a wonderful day, and I definitely plan to return (hopefully with a different tour guide).

After trying a second time for this excursion, we were truly delighted with the outcome! Everyone in the group of 16 thoroughly enjoyed the cruise as well as the delightful dinner shared at the Torches. We had wonderful weather with sunshine that day. Expedient assistance from the crew was available for several who needed assistance with their walkers and/or canes. Once on board, those who preferred air conditioning, had that available on the lower deck with ample room for seating by tables and access to the generously suppplied bar and eatery for drinks and snacks. For those who preferred the gentle breezes and sunshine, the upper deck was available. History buffs enjoyed the short informative scripts relayed over the speaker system, still providing ample time to chat and mingle with each other. All in all, we will definitely plan another excursion on The Pride of the Hudson! Thanks for providing us with such an extraordinary cruise!
