My husband, 12 yr old daughter, and I had a great time! Well organized, small groups, & fascinating, even to a pre-teen. Enthusiastic and knowledgable guide. Reasonable fee, which funds renovations to prevent further damage to this unique Hudson Valley treasure. Have been meaning to do this tour for a few years...so glad we finally went. Exceeded our expectations! Highly recommended!!!!

Informative and engaging tour
Bannerman Cruise & Walking Tour Departing Newburgh

The Bannerman Castle tour was very organized and informative. Boat ride was quite short with clear views of the Hudson. We went on a day that was sunny but not too hot, a good day for picture taking and the tour. The tour guide was informative, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and engaging. As part of the Bannerman Castle Trust, he spent over 40 years studying Bannerman Castle and the Bannerman family. Lots of walking involved as well as unpaved paths around Pollepel Island. Comfortable shoes are important. Paths are very well cleared; however, staying with the tour guide and on the path is advisable, as there are some rocky areas and poison ivy. Overall, Bannerman Castle was absolutely beautiful. The surrounding island was essentially Bannerman's own paradise. The story behind Pollepel Island is just as intriguing as the castle. A wonderful piece of history if you are interested in architecture and history.

The island & the tour were wounderful. The tour guids answers all questions that were asked some of them before we even asked. I can't wait to go back next year & would recommend this tour to all my friends.

Fascinating History In a Very Interesting Place
Bannerman Cruise & Walking Tour Departing Newburgh

The on-island tour was very well-executed. From scooping us off the dock area (we were lost) and onto the boat in time (enclosed boat and comfortable) - a mere 1/2 ride from Newburgh. By the way, plenty of place for lunch on the waterfront in Newburgh. The tour guide, Wes, was great. He gave us just enough info and his talk we well-planned. While the Castle is at arm's reach - you can enjoy the sights, learn the history, see how much more work needs to be done and what a great job the conservation folks have done with the path's and gardens. Definitely worth every dollar and well-planned as part of your day.

A friend in from Florida, my husband and I took the cruise. It was a hot, sunny day but clear. Stayed in the a/c and found it quite comfortable. Could see both shores from where we were and thought the narrative was informative and the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

Travelling to NYC by train I always looked forward to viewing Bannermans Castle. When I found I could tour the island, I jumped at the chance--I was highly pleased with the tour and comfort of the tour boat--our guide (Steve?) was great and I learned much about the history of this not too well known attraction. See it while you can-its future due to the elements is uncertain.

We visited Bannerman's Island on a hot summer day -- but the heat and humidity didn't keep our tour guide down! The tour was very interesting, though I wish we had longer on the island to photograph, appreciate, and enjoy the island.

We were unaware of the island until stumbling on the tour on orange tourism.com. found tour interesting and informational. cruise on river was good and area enjoyable. To bad for the state of destruction it would have been good to get closer and hike the island more.

An Outstanding Afternoon

Our trip to Bannerman's Island in August was a complete success, thanks to the hospitality and knowledge of the volunteers who run the boat and tours. All of the people we dealt with were friendly, and the information provided during the tour was just the right mix of historical facts and quirky stories - we learned a lot, but never felt like we were 'in class.' The tour itself is beautiful. We had a cloudless, sunny day, not too hot, perfect for the short hike and for taking close to 100 pictures (thank goodness for digital cameras). Our only regret is that we didn't do the tour last year, before structure collapses caused parts of the tour paths to be closed for safety reasons. I'd recommend this tour for anyone interested in local history, stunning photographs, or just a fun, different type of afternoon adventure.

We had a short family holiday, took the 4pm 2hour tour. All eight of us loved the experience. The views were spectacular, can only imagine when the leaves are in full color. [ May need to come back for that. ] Very relaxing and peace full .
