Bannerman Cruise & Walking Tour Departing Newburgh

The trip and tour of Bannerman's Island was a great experience and one not to be missed. We were given background information during the trip to the island, then a wonderful tour of the island by an extremely knowledgeable guide. And the views! Not only is Bannerman's incredibly romantic with its ruined castle, but the Hudson Highlands are gorgeous. My friends from Pennsylvania can't waot to come back to the Hudson Valley and are looking forward to one of the special events on the island!

Beautiful river, needs more commentary!

There were too many stretches of river that had interesting natural, man-made and historical "things" that weren't commented on. There should have been more dialogue. The trip needs an uptdated commentary (the big, white castle finally being sold and made into condos). The crew was lovely and answered our hundred questions that the skimpy dialogue didn't provide for. Reasonable cost, though. Beautiful river!!!

the trip is very pleasant for a family, nice views, snack bar could use something other than just hot dogs, other people had brought a picnic lunch which is acceptable. the boat is very clean, left as scheduled and returned as scheduled.

the narration was old and unchanged from inception

unprofessional, and very poorly done ,needs update with a lot more information. did not know what montain they were talking about as it was not pointed out. Break Neck was described but which one was it? The Cog Railroad was where? What about the dredging of River! Where is it ? Cost, results, outcome, how it affects downriver. Fishing, Swimming, personal use of river!!! Waterway for ships?? How far they can go ,what deliver, what countries, how is river kept open in winter? how is it kept open for large ships in other seasons? Homes along the banks would be interesting. Cost, history, interesting stories. on & on the narration could go to make the trip more interesting and informative. Could be called : History ot the Hudson River

Wonderfully relaxing afternoon

My wife and I brought her sister to get away from the City for a few hours and enjoy the scenic Hudson. It was great. the length of the cruise was about right and the scenery beautiful. The passenger group was mixed from small children to seniors. the narration of locations and some local history was good also, but a little hard to hear at some portions of the ship. Crew was friendly. Even saw a bald eagle low over the Hudson a little north of West Point. Thoroughly enjoyable; good food/bar stops at the shore; had dinner at a great restaurant elsewhere in Newburgh to finish off a wonderful, unhurried and relaxing day.

Very interesting and informative trip. Seems very "out of place" (in a good way) just about an hour north of New York City.

Not worth the time or money

The day we went on the "Pride of the Hudson" was a warm sunny day. The boat was full with a "private party" of some company and their employees. This included trays with sternos to keep their food warm. This apparently made the boat full and very warm according to the bartender and one oft he boats' employees. He very nicely did try to raise the temperature but it did nothing. There were no chairs avalaible to sit outside on the upper deck due to the private party ..which made me wonder, they should have booked the boat just for themselves. avoiding the crowded boat. The boat was noisy which made it difficult to hear the canned commentary about the Hudson valley. I live in Goshen and thought it would be fun to take my in-laws from Florida (in their late 70's) a big disappointment.

Nice scenic 2hr tour of the hudson. Its an hour up the river and an hour back. First hour was very informative although they could do a little better job pointing out the sight they are talking about. To be fair though, they do go around and ask if you have any questions. And the guy gave me a nice detailed answer. The way back there wasn't much more to say so it felt a little long but it was still very nice. I would definitely go again and definitely reccomend it.

Aboard the vessel, the views of the Hudson and surrounding towns were glorious. The cruise was enjoyable; the weather was fine and the bartender below was professional, knowledgable about the area and he had a great sense of humor. I have recommended this trip to several friends.

Bannerman Cruise & Walking Tour Departing Newburgh

For years, we have admired Bannerman's Castle from the train on our way to NYC. My husband grew up near Peekskill and boated around this mysterious island as a youngster. The tour was a fascinating way to experience this unique and unusual island first-hand, along with it's amazing history. Our tour departed Newburgh with a comfortable boat ride to the island. The windows were open, with a wonderful breeze coming off the river. Still, it was a hot day and I was glad we brought extra water bottles after hiking around on the island for about an hour and a half. Water and snacks can also be purchased on board. Our kids are 21, 19 and 16 years old and all of us enjoyed and could appreciate the architecture, the island and the history. I wouldn't recommend it for young children since there is a bit of steep hiking and a lot of history. Our boat was full, so the tour guides divided us into 2 smaller groups to do the tour around the island, which worked out nicely. Our guides were knowledgeable and were able to answer all our questions. I also liked that half of the proceeds from each ticket goes toward restorations on the island. Highly recommended for a unique experience on the Hudson! We concluded our tour by having lunch at Billy Joe's Ribworks, right on the waterfront when you get off the boat. There are several restaurants all within walking distance of the pier.
