A new appreciation for the 60's!!!

Izu was incredible. Her 40+ years tenure in living in the Haight led to a perfect historical tour of the neighborhood. As if that isn't enough, her personal relationships with Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Country Joe and members of Hell's Angels took you back to the era. Her stories of growing up in the Haight, from prim-and-proper New York girl to self-admitted Hippie brought a realness to the tour that made me feel as though I was living the experience with her. The story of how she was awaken by a famous Seattle guitarist was worth the price of the tour alone. The tour covered about ten square blocks, and lasted nearly three hours. Being born in 1965, the era was considered history for me as I was brought up on 70's rock; never had a real appreciation for 60's rock... until I met Izu. If you are going to San Francisco and miss this tour, you will have not really experienced San Francisco. We watched one of the many San Francisco tour busses drive by with some guy blaring over the loud speaker. The people on board got a quick (35 mph) tour of the Haight. I guarantee you they didn't put their hands on the gate of the Grateful Dead house like I did! I will take my kids next time we visit. Izu: Happy Birthday (May 3rd)! Ray from Seattle, WA

The Best Tour in San Fransisco

I really enjoyed this tour because I consider myself a hippie. I felt like Izu really knew her facts and did a great job in telling them. She really made me wish that I lived in Haight in the 70s or even now. I hope to take this tour again if I travel to San Fransisco.

Great tour not to be missed!

Very interesting and unusual tour, quite authentic, gives you lots of insights about the Haight back in the late 1960's as well as later periods in the life of Haight community. Not less interesting - or maybe even more for that matter - was our guide, very friendly, a live flashback to the flower generation. Also, you learn quite a few interesting bits about the history of the neighborhood starting from the early 1900's (before the hippies moved in). Defintely a unique experience; highly recommended.

We enjoyed our tour with Stan. He was an excellent guide. Very knowledgable and congenial. The pride in his neighbourhood showed. A chance to see and learn about this fascinating part of the city.

Enthusiasm
Fri, Mar 27  11:00 AM robedd Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The tour guide (ISU) was very enthusiastic and really worked hard to make sure people enjoyed the trip. She clearly identified with the hippie movement and I enjoyed her total lack of cynicism about that era. I would say it was more of a 'talking' tour than a 'walking' tou but ISU was hindered by her broken foot. The fact there was nothing on the Jefferson Airplane surprised me. Overall it was definitely worthwhile.

Quirky tour of the Haight
Thu, Mar 26  2:00 PM acordner Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The tour of Haight Ashbury was fun and quirky. I recommend this tour for the free spirits out there and open minded individuals who are young at heart. Not for the prudes of society. You may be converted. A tour with personality. The tour guide is the main attraction, a WILD free spirit hippie, Grateful Dead fanatic with funny stories and personality. She lives in the area and has since the Summer of Love. It's sad to think that she is one of the last links to the height of Haight's Hippie days. The area is slowly being taken over by over commercialization and the wealthy are trying to push away the homeless youth who come to the area for free medical services and food. Go on this tour before it is all gone. Unfortunately without a movement the Haight will be no more. See it while you can, or at least hear about this once vibrant artistic community.

Fun Tour!

Just walking Haight-Ashbury isn't enough - it's a groovy street, but the stories behind the place are what it's all about. On this walking tour you get the full Hippy Vibe with enthusiastic local guide Izu - anecdotes, famous residents' houses, and the best place to buy your tie-dye! I had a really good time.

Factual, Enlightening, Colorful, and Needed

It was a great tour and Izu was fantastic! It would be tragic if there is no one left with the firsthand experience of the events that occurred during the period. We would recommend having more visuals/props to compare then and now. Short video clips with music of the times at the end would be great. All in all, would not miss it when on a SF visit. Another suggestion: a magic bus for the tour.
