The tour was quite interesting and enjoyable. The tour guide seemed very enthusiastic and had many stories of the area. A bit long for a walking tour... but overall a good time.

great historical trip down memory lane

The leader knew lots of history about the community. He pointed out houses that famous people had lived in. He explained the various changes in the houses over the past 40 years. For anyone aware of the Summer of Love or who knew the term Haight Ashbury, it's a great tour. In some ways the neighborhood has never changed--murals, victorian houses, peace/love/green lifestyle. In other ways, change has happened--vintage clothing stores, coffee shops, atrocities to some houses. Great tour. Not the usual canned one.

Saw all of the spots in Haight-Ashbury that I had heard of and several that I had not. Perhaps a short trip into Golden Gate Park should be added.

Not for impressionable adolescents

This is a great tour for those who are interested in the late 60s and early 70s "hippie" culture. However, the drug culture, free love, and a life of no responsibility is somewhat glamorized, despite the fact that the musicians are mostly dead of overdoses and the stores all have metal gates to protect from thievery. (So much for the hippie idea of causing no harm to others!) So I wouldn't recommend it for adolescents specifically or for children in general. Having said that, I enjoyed the tour immensely. Our tour guide was a hippie and had lived in the Haight Ashbury area during much of the hippie age. She had a host of interesting stories to tell - lots of insider info - not the usual tour book information. Wear comfortable shoes!

It was a nice, informative tour. I only wish that we would have had the chance to stop in one or two of the shops along the way. After completing the 2 1/2+ hour tour the thought of walking all the way back to a store (ie Positively Haight) seemed dreadful, especially for some older members of the group. Our tour guide, Iszu, was charming and seemed very knowledgable.

Peace, love, and an awesome tour

This walking tour led by Izu was the absolute highlight of our very enjoyable trip to San Francisco. The fabulous walk back in time felt more like a stroll among family and friends than a commercial sightseeing tour. We were a small group of only 6 people on a drizzly Saturday morning, but Izu turned it into a sunny day with her funny remarks and wonderfully authentic stories. And that's the main point: Izu didn't study the history of Haight-Ashbury - she lived it! Do yourself a favor and go on this tour - San Francisco at its best! Tanja P.S. Izu recommends the Cuban restaurant Cha Cha Chas for lunch, and this, too, was simply wonderful.

Fun and entertaining!

For two boomers living in New York City in the 60's, it was fun to see where it was all happening in San Francisco at the time. Especially entertaining was our guide who, having actually lived through the times as an active participant, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic (and funny!) and totally transported us back into that day and age. She's a great show and we highly recommend the tour.

Very informative, colorful and sometimes humorus

Very informative, colorful and sometimes humorus trip back to the summer of love amongist other things. My 16 year old daughter thought it was "cool". Our guide Eisu, grew up in the area, met personally with the people she was taking about and is still passionate about what was trying to be accomplised back in the sixties. Its a real trip!
