Out of all the top site seeing things to take in around San Francisco, such as Muir woods, Alcatraz, Angel Island, Golden Gate, We found the Height Ashbury tour to be the most fun and interesting. We were proud to introduce our fifteen year old son to this beautiful sub culture of the sixties. Our guide Izzu was the best, we will never forget her.

Izu is a spite fire that just keeps on rolling while providing a look back as she described the historical events in shaping the Haight-Ashbury district and the various groups of people that called it home through out the years. Her insider stories portrayed the sense of community, philosophy, culture, values and difficulties that was experienced by the hippies. A balance of the good, bad and the ugly as well as the forces that impacted the hippies and that era was presented so we walked away with having gained insight and a better understanding while being totally entertained. This is a great tour for adults of all ages, older children and teens. Izu can keep everyone in engaged! All that is missing is a book.

We enjoyed the tour very much. It really made the area come alive, learning about old history plus the famous Summer of Love and after. Just visiting the Haight area without any background wouldn't have been as interesting or meaningful. Our tour guide was very kind and thoughtful and full of energy, sharing from her personal experiences with a sense of humor. If you want to know more about this area, I highly recommend this tour as a starting point! |

A refreshing nostalgic look at the neighbourhood that spawned dreams, horrors and enlightenment 40-42 years ago. Our guide, Izu typifies the energenic spiritual force necessary to reconstruct the Haight-Ashbury for those of us who read or heard of the beatniks, hippies, diggers, original deadheads in the state that also had Hollywood and Disneyland. My only suggestion is that someone in the new Haight-A$hbury reconstruct the Herb Greene Egyptian-Hieroglyphic wall for photo-ops. Maybe the etchings could replace some of that gaudy Methodist church mural . Oh yeah!

We enjoyed the tour of the Haight-Ashbury. We found it to be very informative and fun. The tour guide Izu was very high energy and pleasant. She made the tour exciting. We would recommend this tour to anyone who enjoys walks and has an interest in learning about San Francisco's history and San Francsico in the 60's.
Sincerely,

This is a fantastic walking tour...highly educational and interesting (even if you knew nothing about the Haight before!). Tour guide lived in the area which made for an even more personalized tour. Would definitely recommend this! |

We loved this tour! Our guide, Izzu, was enthusiatic; sharing many stories of the neighborhood that interested those of us old enough to remember the times as well as my teenager, who appreciates the music that came from the Haight. This area is rich with history, the architecture is beautiful and the residents are still very friendly. You can walk through the neighborhood by yourself, but you will have a much better time on this tour! Izzu is the most wonderful guide; I am so happy to have met her! The prices are quite reasonable, so if you're sitting there "thinking" about buying tickets -- quit thinking and just do it! Peace and love from Heidi |

The passion that is put into this tour by the tour guide, Izu,( imagine Fran Fyne cast as a bubbly, loveable, feisty and slightly dippy 4'9 50-something hippie) makes for an informative, fun, yet respectful and moving tour of a unique area which has happily retained much of the atmosphere of its heyday. Izu's obvious love for her neighbourhood and the people that have passed through it , from rock-stars to the homeless, provides for a geographical, historical, architectural and social tour through all of the good (the music and the social liberation) and the bad (the bad drugs and infamous cults) that the Haight-Ashbury area and the Hippie era produced.
Izu's thorough knowledge of the area and its characters, famous and otherwise, reflects her long association with the area. She first came to the Haight in 1967 and has lived there since 1971.
The best tour that I've ever been on.
