Haight Ashbury Flower Power Walking Tour

My husband, myself (we are in our 50's) and our 15 year old daughter and 11 year old son took the tour with Susie(back wards) hard for me to remember except this name as I am Susie also! She was very informative and knowledgeable about the 60's and 70's "Summer of Love" era and what all was going on in the "haight". She was able to show us many historically "cool' places where persons of interest lived and hung out. With her varied experiences and colorful past she was able to interject numerous anecdotal extras that no one would read any where. Susie was enthusiastic,funny,loving to all in the group. The tour we were on had a large group-varied ages, nationalities,and probably desired objectives for the tour. It may be helpful at the beginning of the tour for the tour guide to ask each group if there is any thing they really are wanting to see(we had been very interested in seeing the home of the Jefferson Airplane on Fulton St but did not get to that). It was wonderful to meet Pam. She was truly the embodiment of a hippie despite the era. She tried to impart ways the continuation of the movement might be possible even now in this crazy materialistic time. I enjoyed her opening up her home to us, sharing her past with photos, books, memorabilia. Overall the tour was wonderful and my only comment of constructive nature would be to try to keep a little closer to the time frame and focus on the content (which I say could be more or less agreed on by the group at the beginning of the tour) so there is a more finalized ending with perhaps a message ??such as the death of the hippie movement has not occurred and that we can continue to carry the message to others?? Spoken in the true old "hippie" manner,hey--- Well peace and love to all involved with continuing to live, love and keep the "haight" alive and prospering in the fashion that will promote harmony for all!!!

My wife and I were on a short vacation to San Francisco and before we left we noticed a small article in the local paper that mentioned this walking tour. I highly recommend this for anybody who was around during the '60's (my wife and I were young) or teenage kids or older who have an interest in the music or culture of the time (our 19 year old son who came with us). The tour guide was very knowledgeable and told great stories about Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Hells Angels, etc. She has lived in the area for close to 40 years and was truly interested in making sure everyone was having a great time. If you have any interest in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco, you need to do this tour to get a full understanding.

Izu was a terrific guide. Had a great time. One of the highlights of our trip for sure.

Isu was informative , entertaining and cool! We were happy to share this wonderful time in our history with our teenage daughter, who loved it. I have already recommended it to my brother and his family who are coming west i August as a "must do"

My wife, daughter and I were on a morning our with Izu. She was absolutely fantastic, she helped make our trip to SF memorable, years from now I'm sure Izu will be the only thing we remember, and also Nureyev's breasts on the wall mural.

We really enjoyed the flower power walking tour. The tour guide was knowledgeable about the area and had a lot of good stories to share. We brought our 14 and 16 year old children and they enjoyed the tour also. It was fun for those of us who lived through the 60's and 70's and also for the younger ones who did not know much about things that happened during that time. I would highly recommend this tour. Isu, our guide, was wonderful. The tour was one of the highlights of our trip to San Francisco.

As a 1960s enthusiast, i loved this tour. I love the 1960s and 70s culture, music, ideals; really everything about the era. I have read a lot about the Haight-Ashbury, and learned even more on the tour. Even if you dont know much about the Haight, or are just going there for the day, the tour is a fun way to get introduced to the district and learn a lot of cool history at the same time. Our tour guide Izu was phenomenal and gave everyone true insight into what it was like in the Haight back in the day. I highly recomend this tour!

Tour guide went above and beyond ,included lots of interesting facts. He was very personable,and certainly not boring. The area of Haight-Asbury was very interesting,and my teenage daughter enjoyed it. This walking tour is something I would reccommend for all age groups. A special thank you for the tour owner for accommodating us when the tour sold out, because of such a big demand at the time.(Summer of Love 40th anniversary) in addition to it being vacation time .We have alot of great pictures to remind us of the walking tour and the Haight area of San Francisco..

Guide was very informed and it was interesting to hear about the entire history of the area from its founding. But it was too long, still going when we had to leave after 3 1/2 hours. Was just getting into the "Summer of Love" discussion when we had to leave.
