If the 60s mean anything to you this is a must.

Stan proved the perfect host. Passionately and personally involved with his subject, his stories and insights brought the 60s and the local art and architectural scene very much to life. A nearly voyeur perspective was achieved. You end feeling as though you lived the times long gone with characters who gave voice to the period. It might be of help for younger visitors to get some perspective from books or older folks to gain the most from the rapid fire barage of information. Lots of nuggets just kept flying by. Don't be afraid to keep at the front of the group so as not to miss any details. A real treat from a real and proud Haight resident of long standing.

everybody heard about the summer of love in 1967! here you will find all the information about the musicans that lived here, about the community that tried to make a better world, about the intellectual background and the message of the hippie movement, about local celebrities and their worldwide importance, and of course you will hear funny details such as the "dirty food" from Magnolia Thunderpussy. So if you are interested in the summer of love this walk is a must, because nowhere else you will get this informations.

The Haight- Ashbury Tour my husband , two young-adult children and I took was one of the highlights of our family vacation. We had a blast! The tour guide, Izu (sp?) was terrific and full of information with a most ingaging style. I would recommend this tour to any one interested in the Haight and what happened there in the past as well as what is going on there now.

Much Better Than Expected

I went as the mother of a teenager who is really into music and was apprehensive about the whole Haight-Ashbury scene in general. What I found was a wonderful tour guide who was - although not a native - had lived in the neighborhood for over 20 years and brought real life experience to the tour. I would definitely reccommend this tour to anyone visiting San Francisco, especially if Izu is the guide!

Architectual history tour: recommended for adults

I liked viewing the buildings and learning the history, but my 13-year-old son was a little disappointed, as he was hoping to see more of the past reflected in the present. Set your expectations appropriately, follow the recommendations and dress in layers (especially if the fog is in and the wind is blowing!), and it will be an enjoyable walk around one of the City's most famous areas. Thank you!

add this to your S.F. "must-do" list

my wife, our 15 year old and myself took this walking tour and enjoyed every minute. our guide was isu and she brought her personal insight and experiences of the summer of love to our tour. we came away knowing more about "the haight", the feelings and emotions of hippy movement and feeling like we'd made a new friend in S.F. our expectations were surpassed in every way ... this is the "real deal", including impromptu meetings with other residents of the haight who were there then and live there now. the walking was easy, but would recommend comfortable shoes and be sure to dress for the typically unpredictable S.F. weather.

Not for impressionable adolescents

This is a great tour for those who are interested in the late 60s and early 70s "hippie" culture. However, the drug culture, free love, and a life of no responsibility is somewhat glamorized, despite the fact that the musicians are mostly dead of overdoses and the stores all have metal gates to protect from thievery. (So much for the hippie idea of causing no harm to others!) So I wouldn't recommend it for adolescents specifically or for children in general. Having said that, I enjoyed the tour immensely. Our tour guide was a hippie and had lived in the Haight Ashbury area during much of the hippie age. She had a host of interesting stories to tell - lots of insider info - not the usual tour book information. Wear comfortable shoes!
