Walking through history

| We have made many trips to San Francisco & spent sufficient time in the area to believe we had seen most of what the Haight-Ashbury area had left to offer. This tour with Izu & Benny added so much of the personal history, that could only be provided by someone that lived there during the summer of love, we felt it was well worth the time & money. We thoroughly enjoyed the walk & had a great time with our guide. | ||||||

| Our guide was really authentic. She knew stories from the "inside" not just stuff that you already know or could read about. She still have the 60's look ... and her boyfriend too. | ||||||

| My husband and I took the tour on a Saturday morning. We were staying in the Fisherman's Wharf area so it took us a good hour by bus and taxi to get to the tour area. The beginning of the tour was pretty boring, mostly about the architecture of the houses in the area, which we are not really into. Eventually we got to the area we were interested in, the street where the Grateful Dead, Janice Joplin, etc. lived and that was really cool, but our tour guide was very boring and just weird! We had to leave to catch a plane after two and a half hours, but he didn't seem near ready to be done. It was fun to see where these rockers lived, but I would only recommend it if you have already done everything else you want to do in SF and have some extra time to burn! p.s. My husband hated it!! | ||||||

| I really enjoyed this tour. Seeing the Haight Ashbury without it would have been next to meaningless. I would never have got the real flavour of this area - the summer of love, the Dead House, the Hells Angels house, the grafitti in the street, the murals...all would have either been undiscovered by me or unnoticed. Thanks Stan! | ||||||

| Don't get hung up on the title, this isn't all about hippies, flowers in your hair and dope for 2 hours. Rather it's a knowledgable, entertaining and thorughly enjoyable walk through H-A's history. Buildings, flora, fauna and events are brought to life by a local guide who, in our case, has lived (and lived a fair bit, by the sounds of it) in H-A for years. Well worth the money, and you get plenty of tips as to where to eat/drink too! | ||||||

| a most enjoyable tour! It was just a little too long for me. Of course I shouldn't have gone shopping in Chinatown in the morning! Going to the Hippy Gourmet's bed and breakfast 60's museum part was cool. Stannous was very knowledgable and interesting! and funny! | ||||||

| Stan did a great job of conveying the atmosphere of the Haight... intelligent, offbeat sense of humor and doin' his own thing. At the same time, he was informative and showed his affection for the neighborhood. He took time to greet several locals during the tour and their warm responses were clearly genuine. Also, Stan made a point of calling attention to local artists, explaining their talents and encouraging us to check them out after the tour. This wasn't a Chamber of Commerce pitch, much more like "hey, check these folks out, they're really good." Stan's recommendation that we each write a check to the Haight Ashbury Food Program rather than flip change to the homeless was very much appreciated. Overall, if you have an open mind and your name isn't Rush Limbaugh, Newt Gingrich or Mitch McConnell (well boys, wher I come from that kinda thang is jest o-kay... soooo-eeey!) then you will love this tour. Listen and enjoy! | ||||||

| As a big Jefferson Airplane fan (who got into them in college in the '90s), I've wanted to make a pilgrimage to Haight-Ashbury and Golden Gate Park for years. I knew this wasn't the Jefferson Airplane tour - and that there would be more about the Grateful Dead and Janis Joplin/Big Brother than the Airplane - but I was hoping that I could get enough guidance from the tour to inform my pilgrimage. And from that standpoint, it was definitely a success. But the tour did feel a little light on music overall. The background information about San Fran, Golden Gate Park, Haight-Ashbury was all great, and we heard a lot of good stories. But at times it felt like we spent too much time talking about the trees planted in the sidewalk and historical events from 50-150 years ago and not as much time on the Haight heyday. Yes, it was a quality tour packed with information, but it did feel a bit long and a bit light on music info. After the tour though, my wife and I went on an additional tour to see some of the things not covered in the tour, but that we learned about by asking the tour guide. | ||||||

| dan mentioned something about "we would have time to ask ?s later"...yet it seemed appropriate to be able to ask ?s as we went along, as we all could benefit from the ?s of others. other than that, the tour was grand. seeing the inside of one of the homes was great. | ||||||

| The event was thoroughly covered, with many aspects that I didn't know. It was fun to learn about San Francisco, Haight Ashbury and view the Victorian homes. Please wear good walking shoes, as my feet got tired and sore by the end of the tour. | ||||||

| The tour guide is a very interesting/funny man (artist) and has a lot to tell about the Haight Ashbury neighborhood and history of SF. The tour "could" last 5 hour because he has so many stories to tell. You can ask questions at any time; I'm sure you will get a detailed answer. Try it! | ||||||
