The tour leader was very energetic, well informed and fun. The tour was great and brought back some good memories.
The only negative part of the tour was the visit to the girl's house where we had to listen to a pitifully inappropriate political speech, personally offensive personal beliefs, and a painfully false characterization of history.
She was nice enough and her hemp marketing was to be expected, but naming Barack Obama as our hope for the return of the summer of love experience, claiming the "establishment" introduced hard drugs into the hippy movement out of fear of "communism", and claiming that the Black Panthers were soup kitchen operators until they were "infiltrated"... that was all a little much.
But we were in San Francisco, so I guess nothing should surprise me!
Anyway... loved the tour but disliked the cheap shots by the Hemp Lady. |

The tourguide, unfortunately, broke her foot and had to reschedule my tour. She was so colorful, friendly, and knowledgable. She's lived in the area for many years and was an original Deadhead. She knows all the local aritists and history. I highly recommend taking the tour with her. Ask for Izu to tour you around. Although you can tour the area yourself with a guide book, your vacation will be greatly enhanced by going on this fun tour. It was my favorite part of my whole trip to San Francisco to experience the Haight. |

Our guide Stan was not only very knowledgeable about Haight-Ashbury and its history, but very funny in his delivery. I've lived in the neighborhood for four years and learned a lot about it that I didn't know including types of local plants, architecture, and the history of many of the stores that line Haight street. I would definately recommend this tour to anyone. |

A detailed tour of Height Ashbury and the guide Izu was very inviting. However without a lot prior knowledge, and not native in english, it was not too easy to follow her speedy talk with a lot of references to the 1960s.
A thorough guiding and I believe much appreciated among US citizens from the summer of '67 generation. I've heard you can get a map with hotspots and experience the neighbourhood on your own. For me and my partner that might have been sufficient. Especially since the guiding lasted for more than 2,5 hours. |

This was a fun, informative, and interesting tour of the Haight-Ashbury area with a true local who lived there during its hey-day of the late sixties. She still lives in the 'hood and proudly claims to still be a Hippie. She takes you to all the important historical places and provides you with the story behind the happening. Great photo opportunities too. |

Izu Rocked ! what a fun person. Even though her foot was broke she still rocked the tour. And I loved Benny too !!!! It was such an informative tour as well .It made us wish we came out to California during the summer of love and experienced it ourself. my only bummer was it would have been cool to see pumper 12 come out of the house to see the dead emblem on the fire truck, that would have been too cool ! She suggested some great shops and restaurant to us also that were right on the mark.
Thanks again to all. |

Overall, I really enjoyed the tour. Time wise, I think it could have ended at the B&B where we took a break. I never knew our tour guide's name, as he introduced himself simply as our tour guide. He has a deep knowledge of the area, is quite a character and is very enthusiastic. He is very prepared for the tour, although he was a few minutes late. I think the tour could be two hours long and that would hold everyone's attention. I would recommend it to friends both locally and visiting from out-of-town. I am from SF and have gone on a few tours (Pacific Heights, Chinatown) and each one has it's own flavor.
Thank you for offering this. |

Anyone can go to the Haight and do a self-guided tour, but you get so much more color and history and trivia on the Flower Power Walking Tour. It is well worth $20. We enjoyed our guide, Izu, and especially loved seeing the Grateful Dead house. |

Our very enthusiastic guide shared some very interesting and humorous history about people and events occurring in the Haight during the past forty years. She knows; she's been there much of that time. I didn't know that Jerry Garcia and the Hells Angels once lived across the street from each other. Izu, our guide, pointed out other residences where famous musicians lived, partied and just hung out. She really has some stories to tell about her own adventures living in the area.
The tour is an easy walk, mostly in the upper Haight. Many of the buildings have been beautifully restored and maintained. Some still have the flavor of the 60s. Tourists can still get a feel for the flower power generation by just visiting some of the businesses. A number of present-day trendy shops and restaurants are there, too.
Taking this tour is a fun and interesting way to spend two and a half hours. You'll learn things probably not found in any book or article, see things you won't find anywhere else, get some exercise and probably meet people from other parts of the country and the world. |

Tour Guide was interesting and very knowledgable---if just alittle eccentric. The tour length was a bit too long. It should have ended after about 2 hours. |

Our guide, an artist who goes by the pseudonym Stannous Flouride, was steeped in the lore of Haight-Ashbury and made the neighborhood come alive for us. He shared his knowledge of its history and architecture and interspersed it with humor and many personal anecdotes from his life there. Highly recommended. |

Thank you so much for the breadth of detail and knowledge about this character filled area of our state. I loved seeing the photographs that our guide had on hand as well as the visit to the beautiful home of the Hippie Gourmet. Our group had a marvelous time. I think it would be a lot of fun to have a more intimate tour with fewer people so that we might be able to go into the shops with the guide. Some of them looked like a blast.
Thank you so much for your time, energy and passion. |
