| There's something here for everyone: the history of Rock and Roll, Victorian architecture, sociology of a neighborhood, psychology/philosophy of the Hippie movement, and how the Sixties came and went. But hey, this is San Francisco, and there's something for everyone no matter where you go. What makes this tour recommendable was our very personable, authentic, and inter-active guide. Our guide, Izu, took us through the Haight and through Time with enthusiasm, humor, an a down to Earth philosophical charm. Members of the tour group varied widely in age, interests, and out-looks, yet Izu had the ability to explain and entertain in a way that made everyone in our group able to understand and relate to what she was telling us. She handled all questions with a dash of wit, wisdom, and tolerance; and seemed to adapt her material to the particular interests and experiences of each of us. Everyone got a hug, a button, and a comment or two meant just for them. I highly recommend this tour. | ||||||

| My husband and I booked this tour as part of a vacation to San Francisco. Stan was a wonderfully colorful tour guide with stories, pictures and a strong historical understanding of the area. Being that Stan is well-integrated into the neighborhood (numerous people said hello to him during the tour), it felt original and authentic rather than some cheesy, peace-and-love commercial rip off. He points out and shares detailed history about the area, how it came to be the location for the Summer of Love, how demographics have changed over time, residences of famous (and infamous) people who've lived there - Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead, Charles Manson, Jim Jones... I feel like I have a much stronger understanding of the area than if we had simply walked through the neighborhood by ourselves. He pointed out murals and discussed how Haight Ashbury has pioneered social justice and mental health programs that have been copied all over, which was of great interest to me as a mental health therapist. Stan even offered to take our picture in front of the house lived in by the Grateful Dead. :) We loved it! | ||||||

| Laid back but very thorough, leisurely paced but didn't drag. Izu was a great guide and an interesting, enjoyable person. She was very personable and it's easy to see why she does this type of work and has so many friends along the tour route. I would recommend this tour to anyone who is looking for a nice way to spend a couple hours getting aquainted with the "haight" without digging through guide books. Peace out! | ||||||

| I originally took the tour with my wife in summer of 2004. I took the tour again a week ago with my 19 year old daughter, who has always been interested in the 'summer of love'. Please take from this review that: THE TOUR GUIDE MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE IN THE WORLD!!!! Originally our tour guide (I won't mention any names, but her initials are Pam) was interesting enough. The down side of the tour with Pam was that everything ( I do mean everything ) in the tour had a political slant to it. It was very obvious from the beginning of the tour and it only worsened as the tour went on. I guess that tour would have been okay to someone with the same political views and agendas as the tour guide. Enter Susan.......the second tour was much better because our guide never once mentioned her political views or opinions and concentrated more on the guests of the tour. She made everyone in our group feel welcome and she appeared very genuine in her interest. It was easy to see that Susan LOVED her role. She was very well known in 'the haight' . She was called by name among residents and shop owners alike. Everyone in our group enjoyed the tour. I only wish was that my wife could have been on the second tour also to see how much difference the tour guide made. I truly enjoyed the second tour so much more. It was money well spent. A big thanks to Susan aka Isu (sp?) | ||||||

| My friend and I took the Walking Tour with our Guide "Izu," and absolutely loved it. Izu was funny, knowledgable and entertaining. Would highly recommend this tour. Her personalized stories and knowledge of "Summer of Love" trivia made this a most memorable experience. | ||||||

| My wife and I were on a short vacation to San Francisco and before we left we noticed a small article in the local paper that mentioned this walking tour. I highly recommend this for anybody who was around during the '60's (my wife and I were young) or teenage kids or older who have an interest in the music or culture of the time (our 19 year old son who came with us). The tour guide was very knowledgeable and told great stories about Jerry Garcia, Janis Joplin, Hells Angels, etc. She has lived in the area for close to 40 years and was truly interested in making sure everyone was having a great time. If you have any interest in the Haight-Ashbury area of San Francisco, you need to do this tour to get a full understanding. | ||||||

| Stannous Flouride, yes, that's our guide's name, led our group of about 17 on a wonderful walk through the Haight Ashbury district. It was supposed to be two and a half hours but we walked and talked for three and a half. The tour is more than, "here's where this famous dead person lived, and here's where someone once lived for two months". The area, the architecture, the businesses, the vibe, are all included in a very entertaining package. The walking is not difficult and Stannous knew everybody who went by making you feel as though you were taking a stroll with a friend through his neighbourhood. It is an informal , fun activity that I would recommend to anyone who remembers, even vaguely, the 60's. It is a nice contrast to the more organized bus tours. Just dress warmly. We went on July 24 and it was freezing cold. | ||||||

| I jst took my second Haight tour last week. My first was 6 months ago in February. This time my wife was with me. We both had an excellent time. The tour is fun. The tour guide was knowledgable on rock and roll history, 60's - present day culture, local events and politics. She had a great memory for detail and was able to provide first-hand pearls of wisdom. This tour is well worth the cost. My wife and I will return with friends someday and take the tour again, Two thumbs up. Bill Burdick | ||||||

| This was the most fun tour I've ever been on! Izu (our wonderful guide) was so genuine, fun, interesting, and authentic! She had great true-to-life stories, is passionate about the area and the value of its history, and shares openly. DONT MISS THIS AMAZING, FUN TOUR! | ||||||

| Highly recommended. I used to think hippies were just a bunch of slackers who did nothing but smoke up and laze around. The tour gave us a great backgrounder of how the whole movement started and the mindset behind it. Great bits of trivia as well. | ||||||
