(Boston Harbor Island Alliance)
Seller Description:
The Boston Harbor Islands national park area includes thirty-four islands within Boston Harbor. The islands have played a central role in the harbor's history, and have witnessed critical moments in the Native American experience, Revolutionary War, Civil War and other milestones from New England's past. The islands also exemplify the explosive growth of the city and industry, and now, Boston's reconnection to a clean harbor.
Residents and visitors from near and far, now come into the harbor and to the islands for nature walks, picnics, swimming, camping, historic tours, and other recreational activities.
You can experience all the beauty of the islands through a ranger-guided tour! You'll learn all about the area and visit Boston Light and even meet the US Coast Guard light keeper.

Activity Description
Join a National Park Service ranger for the best Lighthouse tour that the Boston Harbor Islands National Park Area has to offer!
During this unforgettable experience, you'll cruise around Boston Harbor while taking in beautiful views and learning about Boston's own three historic lighthouses: Boston Light, Graves Light, and Long Island Head Light.
Established in 1716, the Boston Light is the first and oldest lighthouse station in the country. The current tower was built in 1783 after the original was destroyed in the American Revolution, and is the last light station in the country to be staffed by a US Coast Guard light keeper, who you will meet when you land on island!
Graves Light was constructed in 1905, and is located on "The Graves," the outermost island of Boston Harbor. At 113 feet tall the lighthouse is an important safety feature for surrounding boats and even air planes. Fully automated in 1972, Graves' signature characteristic is its two flashes every twelve seconds.
Long Island Head Light, is located in the inner harbor on Long Island, the largest of the Boston Harbor Islands. Constructed in 1819, it flashes every 2.5 seconds.
During your Ranger-guided tour of the lighthouses, you will enjoy:
- An exciting boat ride leaving from Boston through the Harbor Islands National Park Area, with a particular focus on each of the lighthouses.
- Spectacular views of the City of Boston, you'll be sure never to forget!
