Both tours were enjoyable & educational. We took the carriage tour in the morning, and our guide was great. She was very knowledgable. The harbor tour that afternoon was refreshing and interesting.

Great Tour with Wife and One Year Old Daughter
Fri, Aug 27  11:30 AM jonbeck Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Myself, wife, and 1 year old daughter did the harbor tour as well as carriage ride and would truly recommend. We arrived in Charleston around 11am (in the free parking lot which we stayed all day and walked the rest of the day as everything is within a short walk) and were greeted by a friendly young girl who checked us in. We then went on about an 1.5 hour boat ride around the harbor where the captain was very informative and explained all a lot of historical facts about the harbor and the city of Charleston. The boat was great, not many people aboard as it was the week before labor day and most children had gone back to school. We sat up top, plenty of room and down below inside it was air conditioned. They also had bathrooms and a snack bar aboard. Would highly recommend. We then went to for lunch at a little country restaurant called Jestine's Place and was pretty good. Both my wife and I got the fried chicken, each got two sides, and the corn fritters for around $25 with tip. We then walked to the carriage company which is within walking distance of the harbor and scheduled our departure. The carriages actually have about 16 people aboard. The tour guide was a native of Charleston and gave a very informative tour of the city which also lasted about an hour an a half. The main reason why I wanted to write the review is to give a warning about packaged tours. This tour was great, it was $32.99pp to do both of the activities which I thought was very reasonable considering I paid about $40 to go on a 15 min carriage ride in NYC a couple years ago. The thing to watch, especially if you have children is to be aware of the packaged tours (specifically the motorcoach tour from myrtle beach to charleston). They wanted to charge us $120pp including my daughter for what would have been almost $400 for us to do the same exact thing. The only thing we did not do, was Boone Hall Plantation that was included in that tour. I am a CPA so if you did the math as I went onto all of the different tour companies websites (boat, carriage, boone hall) the total came out to about $45pp, so they wanted to charge us not only for our 1 year old daughter but $75pp for the 2 hr bus ride. If you are unsure about to take the bus or drive, I strongly suggest you drive. You take Route 17 all the way from Myrtle Beach to Charleston and there is virtually no traffic not to mention the free parking as well.

Great way to spend a day in Charleston
Thu, Aug 26  1:30 PM ElainePartin Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we wanted to do something special. We were in Myrtle Beach so a 2 hour drive to spend a day in Charleston sounded good. We really enjoyed the 2 tours. We were able to see alot of Charleston and feel the history in a relaxing way. We did the Harbor Tour first and then the Carriage tour last. This was great because we were right at Market Street so we could take in the local craftsmen at the open market when we finished the tour. Our tour guides were great. They new how to keep all of us interested in what they wanted to share about the history of Charleston.

Carriage Tour terrific - Harbor crew inattentive
Thu, Aug 12  3:30 PM frhrxm Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I was traveling with my 85 year old mother, who utilizes a walker. The carriage tour was perfectly set up - she entered the carriage from a loading dock with the assistance of the tour guide, so she did not need to step up. The guide, Mr Jackson, was terrific - funny and informative. We would definitely take this tour again. The harbor tour was also informative, but the crew needs to be more aware of its passengers and their needs. Turns out there is covered handicapped seating on the right side of the ship's main level -- not mentioned to us, and by the time I found it out mid-tour, it was filled with teenage girls. My mom couldn't have walked there at that point anyway, given the movement of the ship, but she was left to sit in full sun (covered area is downstairs, which she could not access at all) for 1.5 hours on a day when heat index was 110 degrees. We also learned the side of the ship where we were seated was the side that 95% of the mentioned attractions were NOT on .... since the ship was less than half full, and most people went downstairs, why couldn't the crew tell us this when we boarded and were seated?

Excellent Tours and Great Value

Both the harbor tour and carriage tour were excellent. Jay from Palmetto Carriage Tours was the best tour guide yet. Take both tours and you will have a true feel for Charleston's history. Highly recommended for family groups or for individuals that just want to learn more about Charleston's great history

We loved the Charleston Harbor Tour! Great narration of the city history and the views are spectacular. Affordable and well worth the 90 minutes. I would do it again and highly recommend, especially for first time visitors.

Great tours
Sun, Aug 1  11:30 AM Jaramillo Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Both tours were equally impressive. The guide on the carriage tour was very familiar with the city and had lots of interesting information to share. Our six year old became a little bored after about 40 minutes, but our 12 and 14 year old enjoyed it as much as we did. The harbor tour was great. We are able to move around the boat as we pleased, which was nice, considering it was about 90 plus degrees out. We saw several dolphins and were very entertained by the guide. Highly reccommended.

We had an excellent time and the harbor and carriage tours were great. They were very informative for my significant other that's not from this state and even myself that grew up here. I look forward to booking more tours.

Informative but a pain
Thu, Jul 29  1:30 PM bpottery Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Our Harbor tour was really nice, especially with the air conditioned lower deck. The tour guide was great with lots of good historical data. The Carriage tour on the other hand was a pain....especially when the carriage company crowded 16 full size adults 4 to a seat with temperatures in the 100's. I sat on a metal rail for more than an hour as we bumped through the heat. They should make allowances for hot weather. We were packed like sardines. Very uncomfortable. If you take this tour, don't let them stack you 4 to a seat unless you have 2 small kids. The guide was very good, but his good work was negated by the conditions mentioned above. If you can afford it, take the private carriage and avoid the tourist trap and sweat, or just go in the fall or Spring if you can.
