I have been on many ghost tours and was looking forward to this one. I was very disappointed with the lack of history surrounding the ghosts, such as who they may have been. Also, the group we went out with was huge. We were constantly having to move for a better vantage point. Added to this was all of the noise that accompanies that area. Overall, it was a big disappointment and not something I would recommend to others, either from the Richmond area or visiting.

Size of walking tour
Sat, Oct 21, 06   9:00 PM JustinWalden Female 20-29 Local Other
The tour was nice, but the group as a whole way to large. Over the downtown streets of richmond on a busy "clubbing" night we could barely hear our guide. The groups should not be any larger than 20 or so. It looked to have been 50-60 in our group. Our guide explained that the summer tour is longer, if you are paying the same price as the summer tour whether it's cold or not you should pay the same amount. I live around here and want to attend the tour outside of the busy halloween season but think the place should rethink their tour sizes!

this was the biggest waste of money & time,
Sat, Oct 21, 06   9:00 PM kimgantt Female 40-49 Local Family With Children
my family and myself were very disappointed. i didn't get the information i needed on the tour, the tickets were over priced for the activity. and i thought i would tour an actual haunted house. in addition i had to pay for parking. this was $72.00 too much. i would not recommend this tour to anyone. i would like a refund. (comment from a mother of two) i could have seen a nice hot knock out gourges drama teacher perform at comady sportz. though MY MOM wanted to try something different my mom suggested this, we went, IT BITES!!!!!!!! waste of hour and a half. i cant believe i stayed through the whole thing. (the comment from the youngest son 15)

The most boring thing I have ever been to. The stories were NOT in the least bit scary, and really rambled. Our group left 20 minutes into the tour. A complete waste of $15.

enjoyed, but wanted to visit sites (interior)

I would have like to be able to visit the interior of some of these building where the hauntings had taken place. The stories were entertaining, but need a bit more visual!!! I am glad that I did it!

REVIEW OF TOUR AND ATTRACTIONS

THE TOUR WAS NOT LONG ENOUGH AND WAS VERY BORING MORE HISTORY INFORMATION THAN CREEPY TOUR WHICH ME AND MY HUSBAND THOUGHT IT WOULD BE THEN ON TOP OF IT IT WAS WAY OVERPRICED FOR A WALK AROUND A BLOCK AND A HALF VERY DISAPPOINTING THEN THE ATTRACTIONS INSIDE WERE NO MORE SCARY OR FRIGHTENING THAN A SPIDER WALKING ACROSS FLOOR ALL IT WAS WAS A BUNCH OF ACTORS IF YOU WERE GOING FOR A PLAY THEN ADVERTISE FOR SUCH AND NOT OVERCHARGE PEOPLE FOR EVENTS THAT WERE NOT AT ALL SCARY OR CREEPY WE PERSONALLY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE EVENT TO ANYONE

Just OK

The lady that led the tour was very nice, but not the kind of personality that should be leading such a tour. She may have been better fitted to be a elementary school teacher, or a cheerleader. The stories were just "OK", but maybe if presented in a different fashion, would have been fine. Must interject a little more of a "creepy feeling" into the talk. Check out the Charlottesville "Spirit Walk" through the HIstorical Society, for some ideas. You have potential!

Lots of history in Richmond

We enjoyed the walking tour of Richmond, but you need more than one computer/cashier in the line, it was ridiculous...the wait. Your tour guide was grand and we enjoyed ourselves. We got married the Saturday before, so this was a nice treat for the two of us :)

Fun and Interesting

Being local, the thing that I liked most was the historical references and tidbits of information about the buildings that I pass so often. I would recommend going to the earlier walking tour because it was hard to hear the guide at the late tour because of the music pouring out of the clubs that are frequently near or actually are the building the guide is telling you about. I think the earlier tour would be easier to hear and enjoy.

Walking Tour

The Walking Tour around the Shockoe Bottom area was fascinating and very well done. It's a history lesson of sorts with a "spooky" twist. Suitable for all ages but small children might get restless.

I've been on walking ghost tours before and thought I knew what to expect - but was I wrong! The history and stories of Richmond's Shockoe Bottom and Farmer's Market area that the tour guide shared were eerily believable - she has received first hand accounts of actual hauntings, sprits, and other super natural stuff from the people who live and work in the neighborhood - things that go on even today! The story that got me the most freaked out was about the steam train buried in the Church Hill Tunnel during a cave in back in the early 1900s, trapping and burying many of the workers. Rescue efforts were futile so the city ended up filling in and sealing up the whole tunnel - steam engine, flat bed cars, workers - everything is still in there. One of the ladies in our group said she used to play on the playground above that site as a child and they would hear voices telling them to go away! I also did the haunted house attraction - this ain't your county fair/carnival fun house, no sirrrrrr. They put together professional sound, lighting, props, and numerous live actors and scared the bejesus out of me. One girl got so scared she screamed and ran out of the exit door :-) Those folks at Haunts of Richmond know the scare business well. I can't wait to come back and take their holiday season haunted house, themed after a Christmas Carol - I can only imagine what they'll be able to do with that great material! Go now and go often.

Great for those faint at heart

The Haunts of Richmond Ghost Tour is a great alternative for those who don't like the normal hayride, haunted forest type activities. I'm a big scardy cat so this was a great group activity that allowed me to feel included in the Halloween festivities.

Good historical walking tour; not very scary
Fri, Oct 20, 06   7:30 PM rhstaton Male 20-29 Combination Family Without Children
Taking this tour is an excellent way to see a part of downtown most people would not normally walk at night. The tour provides a brief history of the buildings it passes. The stories are not that scary, however, and not much detail is told about them. This tour would be better if the storytellers were better. It suffered atmosphere on the part of the tour guide.

Good idea, too expensive
Sat, Oct 14, 06   9:00 PM Finslf2rt Female 20-29 Local Couple on a Date
My boyfriend and I were out with another couple Saturday night for the Ghost walk. Our guide was excellent and told us some really interesting stories. I had hoped the tour would be longer than exactly an hour, at least the 75 minutes we were told it would be. I thought the cost was too much-- I think a better price for one hour would be $12 including the tax and surcharges. Also, there were quite a few minutes between checking in and leaving for the tour and no one checked our tickets. We could have EASILY snuck in with the group and not paid.

Good for the history, not for the scare
Fri, Oct 13, 06   9:00 PM gkw831 Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
The stories were good, and the story teller well informed. I can't say that I was scared during the tour. There was too much noise from passing cars and drunks at the bars (not the tour's fault). The next day, I also visited a few of the people in the buildings we passed and learned that the stories are 'greatly embellished', but that's all in good fun. My only complaint was the size of the group. I'd estimate there were 30-40 in our group and that was just too many people to make the tour truly enjoyable. I recommend the tour for the history, if not for the scare. The Widow's House and the Hollywood Cemetery were just lane and not really worth the extra money.
