Disappointment
Fri, Oct 10, 08   9:00 PM rglascock Male Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
It was evident that the tour guide was a novice and needed extensive coaching and guidance on how to conduct a ghost tour. However, she demonstrated a great deal of effort duirng the tour and tried to create a historical context for the guests. With additional practive and guidence, her skills could improve. Perhaps the guide would benefit from lessons from a drama coach who understands how to portray a sense of the occult. In other words, not scary, rather boring.....

This was an interesting and fun night for entertai

We live in Richmond and took our out of town married children on the tour. Everyone enjoyed it very much. My husband saw something in one of the windows and we all were fascinated and learned a lot. The guide was excellent. The stories were familiar to us having studied Richmond history and taken many tours but the guide presented the info in a new and exciting way. We were very pleased that this was a serious lecture and had nothing todo with Halloween or spook house type of stories. I would recommend this to anyone with an interest in the paranormal and think it could help start an interest in those with an open mind. Our group consisted of 2 60 year old adluts with our 29 year old daughter and her husband. I'm sure we will do it again with friends we have been telling about our experience.

Good Tour, Needs better presentation

We certainly enjoyed aspect of this tour. Our guide was gracious and told us that if our little girl couldn't finish the tour and got cranky we could come back the next night with the same tickets. That was very nice. We especially liked the stop at the old train tunnel and the story connected with that. It seemed like the most "haunted" spot and no one would find it, much less know the story behind it, without something like this tour to direct them. Our one disappointment was that our guide was not the best storyteller. The historical aspect of the tour was well done, but when it got to the actual story behind the building/location, it seemed a little disjoint and anti-climatic at times. All in all, we got to see parts of Richmond that we would otherwise have not seen, learned more about the history, but thought that the suspense and excitement of the stories during the tour could have been presented better.

Too expensive.

Rather expensive ($13 per adult) to see 3 buildings (without even going inside them), stand in an empty parking lot, and be given inaccuarate historical information. Don't waste your time on this tour.

Lots of historical facts to be learned along with a touch of the ghostly side. Oh and lots and lots of exercise. I learned a lot of the city's history, saw sights I hadn't seen before and heard the ghostly tales that surround some of the buildings in Richmond. It's a fun tour but not a good trip for small children or pets because there is a lot of walking up and down hills. The tour guide was interesting and took care to make sure the group was together with no stragglers getting lost or grabbed by a ghost.

A very entertaining evening

The tour was very informative as several points of interest were identified as haunted historical sites that I never knew existed and I have lived in Richmond for 63 years. The guide seemed prepared and very knowledgeable in describing, in detail, events that occured and continue to occur in some locations. A Halloween night well spent.

We went early for parking. No where to set to wait. Tour was good but the walk (pace) was way too fast. Wear comfortable shoes. They should open 1 hr early.

Richmond has some much history and this was another side of the actual people who lived in the area. Some had tragic deaths--cave in, fire, shootings--and others loved where they lived and are reluctant to depart.

It Was A Dark And Stormy Night

The weather was much cooler than it had been It had rained during the day. This provided the right atmosphere for a Ghost Tour. Our guide met us as we werre completing a wonderful dinner just two doors from "Haunts". We were all impressed with this. We had checked in at "Haunts" early and said where we would be. We arrived on time to find an enthusiastic group anxiously waiting the walk. Our group and the others who joined us were all in a great mood. There were all ages in our group. One child who was scared but loving all. There were couples, the parents of that child, and the six of our group. Our guide was a wonderful story teller. Her stories were well researched, funny at times, a bit serious at others. The crown warmed to her instantly. My husband often has the complaint that he could not hear, when we are in a crowd. He remarked that he heard very well, and found the stories intrigueing. This is high praise from a man of few words. I heard a young woman say to her husband "WOW" after the story of the child ghost. The guide, was focused, didn't take herself too seriously but held out attention. We all agreed that this was a unique and totally fun night. We want to return and take the other tours soon.

Very Interesting Tour

In the Spirit of Halloween we decided to take the tour. The stories were interesting and the history of the Church Hill / Shockoe Bottom was an added attraction. The tour guide was pleasant and the length/distance of the tour was sufficient to keep it interesting.

UNSAFE Ghost Walk!
Sat, Oct 24  9:00 PM NancyLoya Female 50-59 Local Family Without Children
This is our first and last visit to the Shockhoe Bottom! It wasn't the ghosts from the past, but the dangers of the present that frightened us. We expected darkness, but not while walking in broken glass, over loose boards and mud holes, tall overgrown weeds, street gangs, and a four police car arrest! So glad we didn't bring children, bad enough entertaining out-of-town adult guests. Realize Richmond is rich with history, but this is a dangerous way of sharing it! Our walk, 24 Oct, 9:00 pm.

We did not attend due to inclement weather (i.e. cold and heavy drizzle) . My in-law who is 80, didn't feel like she should go. I was disappointed .

The girl that led the walk was funny, animated, lively and had a lot of knowledge about the ghosts in Richmond. I recommend this tour to anyone. It was my 2nd time. I brought my friend from work this time and we are going to go on the pub tour next time.

Entertaining!
Fri, Jun 26  9:00 PM blkleinman Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
We thoroughly enjoyed our "ghost tour" of Shockoe with an informative and enthusiastic guide, an English teacher with drama background. She had several interesting historical stories that I'm now curious about and will research further. I think the most fascinating aspect of the tour was how the present (lively partying people, music, busy restaurants, etc.) was juxtaposed with the past (the train tunnel collapse at the end of a dirt drive and Julep's - a restaurant- haunting by a murdered apprentice from another century. Beginning the tour at the Poe Museum's courtyard is an excellent idea, and we loved hearing about the little entity "Jonathan," who might peer from the upper window of the adjacent building. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes though! You will be walking vigorously and over some patchy areas of sidewalk here and there. I definitely recommend the tour.
