A Top Flight Walking Tour in NYC
Fri, Sep 4, 09   10:00 AM Jayhawk71 Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This 3.5 hours is an opportunity to truly see daily Jewish life and heritage up close and personal. The history and passion of Jewish life in Crown Heights comes alive on this tour, driven by a unique look behind the scenes and via active engagement with the host rabbi(s). Highly recommended.

Fascinating and Fun

I learned a lot about the curious Hasidic movement. The Rabbis that guided us were open to any and all questions and answered them without reserve or embarrassment. They showed us many places in their community, including a Mikvah, a synagogue, and where holy documents are written. I wish we were there for the Matzah factory...We'll have to go back!

I was the only one taking the tour that day so the attention was unbelievable. Almost too much information. The only thing slightly disappointing was the meal. I expected to eat different types of food. For instance, matzoh ball soup, meat, etc.

Absolutely fascinating and compelling

I've lived in this city for 13 years and was always curious about the people with the large families, black coats, hats, and beards. After going on this tour the shroud of mystery that surrounded them has been lifted. I know there is a lot more to their lifestyle and culture than I could pick up in our 5 hour tour, but what I did learn and see was incredibly in depth and exciting, especially seeing the hive of activity and center of their culture in the synagogue. Their culture comes across as so rich and vibrant and close and connected. They have found a way of life that for those who stay in it, appears to be deeply fulfilling. Our guide was very positive and friendly and engaging and seemed to be delighted to enlighten us to the joys of their lifestyle and culture and beliefs.

Excellent Intro to Hassidic Life in NY

I am a secular Jew and knew very little about the Chabad Lubavitch movement. I took this tour by myself, with 2 other couples in the group. The rabbi's that took us around and talked about the history and daily life of the community were very helpful, friendly and open to questions from all of us on the tour - Jewish and Christian. There were other members of the community we met along the way. All were extremely friendly and outgoing toward us. This really impressed me - I was very surprised at how welcome I was made to feel in the synagogue and on the street. I came away with a totally new respect for the Lubavitch movement. I have begun more research on my own and have already recommended this tour to several friends, Jews and non-Jews.

A must see tour

We enjoyed the tour and found both interesting and enlightening. The tour was to be three and half hours but lasted five hours time was not important to our guide. It gave us a good insight into daily life of these people.Love and care of others was refreshing to see. May G-d bless this community.

Our experience of the Chassidic Tour in Brooklyn
Mon, Jul 13, 09   10:00 AM Menckhoff Male 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
It was great disovery for us to learn more about the Lubavich philosphy and life style, teaching us the ethical foundation of this group. It was unusual (but much appreciated) that the first hour of this "walking" tour consisted of a lively explanation by a Rabbi, in the Jewish Library, of the creed and underlying philosophy of the Chassidic sub-religion. Having been able to view the enthusiastic believers celebrating and learning in the synagoge will be unforgettable. Coming from Christian backgrounds ourselves, it would have been interesting to learn more about the overall Jewish religion and history, and how the Lubavich group fits into it.

very personal and open to discussion

I'd call it a" talking tour" rather than a "walking tour". After all, we only walked about two blocks. But it was the commentary and the discussion that was fascinating and interesting. We even had a good lunch discussion. I recommend this tour to anyone who wants to know about the motivation and interests of the group.

I only would have liked more of the neighborhood tour of Crown Heights's Hassidic community.

Such a fascinating glimpse into a culture 1000's of years old. I appreciated so much the willingness of the Chabad Lubivitch Hassidic group to open themselves to outsiders. I believe that sharing promotes acceptance and respect among different people with different faiths. I feel like coming across your tour was exactly what I was looking for as I continually read and try to understand Jewish culture and traditions. Thanks to Rabbi Einstein for the inciteful day. Sincerely, Judy Mortimer Idaho

The Chassidic Walking Tour was the best and most interesting thing we did on our eight day trip to NYC. Both Rabbi Epstein and Rabbi Yisroel Ber Kaplan were most gracious and spent considerable time with our small group of just two couples. Both Rabbi's did a wonderful job of answering our questions and showing us around the Lubavitch area in Crown Heights. Would highly recommend this tour to both Jewish and non Jewish (ourselves) alike.

The tour helps one understand the culture and lifestile of the Lubavitch Hassids. The information provided touches upon the history, values and customs of the community. The guide was very friendly , knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Tours like this promote tolerance and understanding. The little lunch was simple but the food was delicious and healthy. Thank you!
