Learn more than you thought possible about BBQ

What a fun way to get to know KC! Our group of ladies were in town for the KC Plaza Art fair and this was a great way to sample the famous KC bar b q as well as get a van tour of the downtown. The first stop was Arthur Bryant's at 11:15 am and I think it was delicious - however it was already sitting on a plate for our group while the tour girl was talking and so it was cold when we sat down. Never fear, we had enough to eat the whole rest of the trip and we thought the excursion was well worth the price. Too bad the front window of the van comes down so far that the passengers can't really see out the front to look at the sights - only the sides.

I had one extra day in KC after a conference and this tour was the perfect way to get to try a variety of BBQ legends while also exploring the city. The tour included a wide range of highlights and landmarks and I felt gave me a really good overview of KC. Not to mention the food was outstanding, as you'd expect. We also made a stop at a large sauce manufacturing plant which was pretty wild to see. The tour guide and her husband, the driver, were both friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this to any KC visitor that likes smoked meats and sightseeing.

Great Tour Experience

The tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of the history of each location we stopped. In addition, she was well versed on the history of key landmarks we passed on our way from one restaurant to the next. The food was fantastic and the overall tour experience was great and all participants from our company event thoroughly enjoyed it. The only thing we weren't prepared for was there is a sign in the shuttle that says Tips appreciated for tour guide. As a result we had to grab some cash to tip the guide who was well worth the tip.

KC Barbecue Tours

KC Barbecue Tours is the only company to offer Kansas City locals and visitors the opportunity to sample the world’s best barbecue.  With over 100 barbecue joints in the Kansas City area, the choice of whose savory meats to eat can be overwhelming.  KC Barbecue Tours can help ease your barbecue tasting anxieties by offering an insider’s guide to the city’s top barbecue restaurants. Our tours will make your taste buds dance as we take you into a variety of Kansas City’s big name barbecue establishments and hidden barbecue gems. You will also get to travel through some of Kansas City’s most historic neighborhoods.

KC Barbecue Tours simply began with married couple, Karl and Bethanie Schemel’s, years of love for Kansas City barbecue. Born and raised in Chicago, where he worked on his father's boat guided tour business, Karl moved to Kansas City in 1998 to attend college. That was when his taste for barbecue began. Raised in Wichita, KS and with family ties to Kansas City,  Bethanie has been enjoying Kansas City barbecue since she was very young.
After years of sampling the various Kansas City barbecue options the couple realized that their pasts could unite to provide a bus guided food tour of the best barbecue in the world. Karl and Bethanie’s hope is that each guest will leave the tour with the same love and appreciation for Kansas City barbecue that they have.
