All the hype is right! Rock on Steve!

I don't normally do tours, I read up on the subject and do it myself. But now I'm an old boy with less time than I want, I thought I'd get as many boxes ticked as quickly as possible. Steve ticked them for me, and many more besides! Knowledgeable, informative, witty, a cool driver, well organised and a good listener, which these guys often aren't. We bounced stuff to and fro, and I hope I wasn't a royal pain in the ass, but it seemed to work okay. As he said, I was an extrovert and couldn't stop myself, so let it roll. Steve is definitely on my recommend list. Great tour!

Very informative and interesting

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I knew very little of New York prior to the tour , but after the tour I felt like I knew a great deal about the city. The tour guide was very informative and made the tour fun and interesting. The first night I was in New York, prior to the tour, I was walking around and had no clue where to go to see the things I wanted to see, but after the tour I was able to get around much easier. We also visited locations that were a must see, given the short time period of the tour. I would certainly recommend this tour.

Entertainment or passive aggressive prejudice?

Steve is charming, funny and knowledgeable. He had a way with words when it came to the African American couple on our tour, passive aggressive prejudice is the best way I can describe it. He went out of his way to make a reference to Black History month while nodding to the couple, finally she said to the others on the bus that Black History Month is not about her. The final straw for my husband and I was that he prided himself on remembering peoples names but referred to them as "where's OUR black couple" when their portion of the tour was over and they left. I know it wasn’t just me because after lunch Steve finally said something along this line to everyone "what's wrong, did I say something wrong, oh…no one will tell me but I'll hear about it in an email in 2 days". I had already planned to say something about it at the end of the trip, which when I tried to describe what offended me he started defending his comments before I could get a full sentence out. I realized that nothing I said to him, he would hear. When I got off the bus my three teenage children all commented that they were floored by his black/African American commentary and references.

Stephen was a great guide, extremely informative and funny. He gave our small group a rare insight into some lesser known aspects of NY life. I would heartily recommend the tour to friends.

We enjoyed our very entertaininng 6 hours with Steve. It gave us a great overview and we were able to determine what to go back and see in more detail. I would highly recommend it as a "first day" excursion.

Very Informative and easy to understand

This truly was a marvelous tour. Steve had a fun personality and quickly learned everyone's names. He is facing the group the whole time so it is easy to understand everything he says and you are free to ask questions. It is not like a tour where they are talking into a microphone and you can't understand anything that is said. It is a great way to see New York if you are there for a short time and to get a brief history lesson also. I would highly recommend the tour. The only negatives I saw were that we did not see Grant's Tomb, The Apollo or the Seinfeld Restaurant like the website said we would. This may have been because Steve said we were running slightly behind. I did not realize this until after the tour but I do not feel like we were "jipped" because the rest of the tour was so good.

Great introduction to NY

Steven knows his New York and enthusiastically shared his knowledge and his passion for the city with the participants of our tour. We managed to get a great combination of facts and anecdotal incidents to make us feel at home in the "big apple". The tour covered all essentials and we had a small enough group that all our questions could be answered. We felt we had a good enough orientation to plan our own schedules and revisit any places of additional interest in the days following the tour. Thanks for a great day!!

The Best City Tour
Tue, Sep 30, 08   9:00 AM McPhee Female 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
My husband and I have just returned from a mini around the world holiday. We visited many cties and took numerous city tours. This tour with Steve was by far the best. Steve was such good fun and full of interesting information about his vibrant city. I wish I had a tape recorder to record all the information that he fed us. I would recommend this tour to anyone wanting to see New York. The Pastrami on Rye at Katz deli is something you must try for lunch in NY.
