Fun, friendly and good value

| The tour provided my friend, a first time visitor to New York, an insight into all the main highlights of Manhattan Island in one day. I had already visited the city on two previous occassions, but getting the insider view from a local was great and I saw the sights from a different perspective. Steve, the guide, was friendly and enthusiastic. He created a good group atmosphere and was ready to answer all questions. By the end of the day we felt we had certainly seen the highlights of the city and could then choose the parts we wanted to go back and explore further. I would certainly recommend the tour and suggest that you do it on the first day so you can get you barings and decide what you want to see more of. Only downside was the lunch stop at Katz diner, which was billed as a highlight but was ridiculously busy and in our view, not overly clean. I guess it was an authentic New York experience, but not one I would choose to repeat. This aside, it was fun, friendly and good value. | ||||||

What lights? Disappointing!

| Not recommended as the tour was premature (before Thanksgiving). Very disappointing as the lights were not on yet. Suggest that tours only commence when lights are on. Otherwise no value for money as it's not a cheap tour. | ||||||

| We met Swedish relatives in NYC and wanted to learn as much as possible about the city early in our visit so we could decide where to spend our time. Stephen was very knowledgeable and entertaining. The bus was clean and comfortable, and the large windows made it a great way to take in the sights. His talk included more than mere descriptions of what we saw. He shared his historical insights and sensitive perspectives about the people who have made the City what it is today. Stephen's passion for NYC made this a great experience. I highly recommend it. Susan | ||||||

Too early for holidays, but great tour

| We got off to a rocky start -- the van pulled up right on time, I think, but the driver immediately fled for a potty break and returned 10 minutes late. Ten minutes when we, the paying customers, were waiting in the freezing cold. The van was unmarked, so we didn't know which one it was. A note would have been helpful. The van by now surely is marked as it was new at the time, but one customer was so upset it put a damper on the tour. Then the first thing our tour guide said was that it was too early to see lots of holiday lights. (It was the first--or one of the first--holiday lights tours in 2008, on Nov. 22.) This is something that the company needs to work out--don't have the "holiday lights" tour available before the lights are up! (A good start date might be when they light the Rockefeller tree.) There were some lights, but we already knew from a day of touring that there wouldn't be many. We still got a great tour out of it, saw beautiful skylines at night, and covered a lot of ground because the traffic was much lighter at night than during the daytime tours (I assume). I was happy I hadn't been able to sign up for the daytime tour as well; that would have been redundant (and expensive!). As it was, we really enjoyed the tour and were very happy we took it, despite the lack of lights. | ||||||

Christmas lights tour

| The tour turned out to be a tour of the city, as most of the Christmas lights had still to be turned on. The host tried to make the tour as interesting as possible, but we did book to see the lights, so were very disapointed that they were not available. The tour is obviously being marketed far too early, a point that the host himself admitted. We arrived in plenty of time at the meeting place to find the 'clearly marked' tour bus. There were no 'clearly marked' tour buses. Furthermore, there were no buses with notes in the window either, so we waited around in the cold. When the driver of a small unmarked bus that was parked eventually returned to the vehicle, we approached him to discover that he was the host in a clearly unmarked vehicle. Perhaps someone could make up a note to leave in the window of the vehicle to advise that this is the tour vehicle. Considering the cost of the tour, overall it was a big disapointment and not value for money. | ||||||

Amazing Experience-Worth the trip

| Steve was absolutely the BEST. My family and I (including my 8 year old daughter) had a wonderful time on the day tour. We not only saw the sites, but learned a lot about their history (and while my daughter, Cadie missed a day of school she learned a lot about the history of N.Y. City). Steve's personal interaction with the guests on the bus encouraged us to form relationships with one another as well. He not only knew us by name, but where we were from as well. We took another tour while we were there and this one far exceeded the other tour (from a different company). Whenever we return (one day soon-when it's warmer), we will definately book another tour. It was worth the money and the time. Thanks again Steve and company! | ||||||

| It was a great first day in New York City. Our guide was very informative and fun. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has not been to New York City. The only downside was the lunch. My daughter is a vegetarian and the deli did not offer anything for her. The other restaurants which were in the vacinity we terrible. We had the worst meal in NYC that day. | ||||||

| Steve is terrific: He doesn't bore you with a ceaseless flow of trivia but rather informs you and shows you a fantastic slice of NYC. It is really obvious that he is a committed NYer who gets a kick out of his product. There are MANY guides in this city. I am one of them. There are a number of good guides in the city but a vastly greater number of awful ones. Steve is a VERY good guide. Highly recommended | ||||||

| Friendly and very informative. This was our second trip to New York. I got to know New York in one day compared to two days from the last time. I felt like having my own chauffeur. The only thing I recommend is Steve have a portable microphone so you don't need to lose your voice as much. I made copies from the internet to share with my friends and their friends. Keep up the good work. | ||||||

| After you have spent the day with Steve, you will know New York. If you want a real insider's view, take this trip. Go early in your stay because this tour will clarify what else you might like to do. Many stops, almost every area touched from Downtown to Harlem. Just be sure to laugh at Steve's jokes so his feelings won't be hurt. Steve loves New York and after 7 1/2 hours in a van with Steve, we loved it, too! | ||||||

Fantastic Organized Tour with Opinionated Comments

| We thoroughly enjoyed our fantastic tour with our host Steven at the wheel. Stevens supurb knowledge of New York City and the surrounds along with his humorous presentation was most enjoyable. From time to time Steven's opinions of none tour related items and of items of current events and/or political happenings were both outright funny and interesting. A full day of informative sight seeing and enjoyable conversation. Well worth the price of admission! Michael Kilgore | ||||||

Disappointed with change in bus

| I booked this rather pricey tour for a fcouple reasons. 1. It was recommended by Zerve. 2. The type of bus. I received excellent service up until my pick up. Shortly after booking I found out that the first pick up was at the Waldorf - so I asked to be picked up there so that we could have a chance at the first row of seats. This was all accomodated and confirmed via emails. The actual experience: Not only were we NOT on the list for pick up at the Waldorf (as the tour guide indicated) there were other people on the bus ahead of us - so it was not the first stop and we had no chance of getting the front seats. The bus was not the beautiful one described but rather a cramped mini-van which was difficult to manouver in and out of and as well, you could see very little. A coach would have been much better. But we were looking forward to the 'special' bus and it was not there. The host indicated that he was a victim of the current economic troubles - and that's why his bus is gone. He said he'd make it up with the information he had to offer. Well at the price paid, we wanted both the information and the bus. Interestingly at the end of the tour he told us that this mini van had 5 more days to go and that his new bus (the 'nice' style) would be in his hands at that point. So he lied to us at the beginning - suggesting that the economic climate was the reason is bus was gone. Overall, disappointing - we should have been given ample notice to allow us to properly decide and take appropriate steps to research and book into another tour. | ||||||
