Be a tourist in your own city

It gave us a great appreciation of our own city. So often you just head right to your destiantion and don't enjoy the surrounding area. It was fun being a tourist in our own city. The guide gave us good insight into tibits about our town.

It was a great experience and I plan on doing another one next year. When I tell my friends about how much food I got, they can't believe it. The food was great too. I plan on going back to most of the restaurants we visited. Our tour guide was great and shared a lot of Milwaukee history that I didn't know before.

Lovely evening --- more food than I expected

I was on the Third Ward walking tour on Satuday, October 24. It was a great opportunity to try several restaurants in the Third Ward that I would probably not have visited on my own. I was only expecting to get a few samples of food along the way but it was more than a full dinner by the time were finished. Given the price of $40, it was a great value. I think some of the Milwaukee history facts the guide shared were a bit questionable. For example, we were told the Rockwell Automation clock was the largest 4 sided clock in the world -- since Big Ben in London is two-sided. I guess she has never been to London. Big Ben is bigger and 4-sided. The unique feature of the RA clock is that it is the largest four-sided ILLUMINATED clock. There were several such misses on the details. Maybe the tour should just stick talking about the food, no one really seemed interested in a history lesson anyway.

Worth it

We really enjoyed this walking tour. The food was very good and it was neat to find some new places to try for dinner. I'm looking forward to trying some of the other tours offered. One of the restaurants cancelled on us, but the organizers seamlessly found a great substitute for us.

Our tour started at the Public Market, followed by Milwaukee Ale House. Then we stopped at Rustico and Club Charley's. We finished off at The Wicked Hop. The tour included great Milwaukee history and included food at each stop. It was a ton of fun!

I really enjoyed this. It was fun to find out things about your city along with trying different places. The food and bloody marys were very good. One of the bars we liked so much we are going there for a Packer game soon. Theresa was great. Very friendly, informative and was interested in talking to everyone. I have already told friends about this. They all thought it was a cool thing to do.

Planning to make this an annual event

I have a group of lady friends and we call ourselves "The Runaway Girls", six of us attended the food tour and we hope all 12 will make it next year. We all thought the tour was well worth it. The food was great, the history even better. We understand there will be new tours added yearly and we look forward to what Theresa picks for next year.

Interesting

The historical information was interesting, especially considering I have lived in this city for over 45 years. If your main interest is the food, this may not be the tour for you. As mentioned in the description, it is a 'tasting'. Overall, an enjoyable way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Worthwhile experience

The weather was lovely, the group very diverse but congenial. Theresa provided interesting history for the various businesses. ( I'm not sure Oprah went to high school in Milwaukee, though. Maybe that could be double-checked for us skeptics!) Also, it would be nice if the businesses selected were all open on Sunday to provide more than a peek through the window! The pace and variety was nice and Theresa kept everyone moving in a diplomatic way.

Our group loved the tour!! Not only was the food interesting and fantastic, it was great to learn a little more about the area. I'm very impressed that you took the initiative to put this together and do such a great job. It was even better than the Seattle food tour we took just a week before this one!

We had 4 couples and we thought this was really fun and entertaining! We went to several places we had never been too, heard some local history and stories, ate some yummy stuff--and really had a lovely evening! We would totally recommend this! And, we want to try the others as well!

Tour of Milwaukee from an outsider's perspective
Sat, Sep 26, 09   11:15 AM Jlehmann4 Male 60-69 Local Group of Friends
The food was uneven. Zafirro's was very good, as was cheese tasting on Old World Third Street. Usinger's was a waste of time. Our guide was relatively new to Milwaukee (10 years.) He read much of his presentation from a paper. This could have been much better with a better guide and a few better selected eateries.

Fun and Informative

We really enjoyed the tour from the first bite of Pizza to the final stop. I learned a lot about the Brady Street area that I didn't know. I will go back to some of the stops to spend more time and buy some products. I was a bit afraid that just having tastings wouldn't be enough food, but we were definately full by the end of the tour. I want to take the 3rd Ward tour next. We all had a great time.

Everyone should do this!
Sat, Sep 19, 09   5:30 PM erdmannd Female 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
We had a fantastic time. The tour guide was friendly and informative, but not intrusive. The group was small so you got to know everyone. There was not too much walking and there was a lot of food! It was my husband's birthday and our tour guide was able to get us a dessert for him and our whole group sang to him. It was very special.

Fun to explore your own backyard
Sat, Sep 19, 09   5:30 PM joeypatrick Female 20-29 Local Other
This tour was fun and filling and allowed us to explore the treasure of our own backyard. Being from the area it was nice to learn more about the history and sample the restaurants. I've been on culinary walking tours in other cities and this definately was more like a progressive dinner than a tasting or sampling. I would recommend this to residents of the area and tourists alike.
