Great tour with authentic eats

Being a previous Melting Pot Tour customer, I knew that I would have a good time on the East LA tour. I have to admit, I had some hesitations beforehand since it involved going into neighborhoods that were not in the safest areas of Los Angeles. However, I felt completely safe during the tour, both on the Gold Line and walking through the neighborhoods. Our guide Kendall did a superb job like she did on a previous tour that I've been on. She was very hospitable and knowledgeable. We went to a variety of local stores and restaurants which showcases authentic Mexican food. I tried some foods that I've never had before, such as braised goat at a popular restaurant which specializes in goat. I highly recommend this tour to anyone who is curious about Latin culture and authentic Latin cuisine.

This was one of my husband's birthday presents. We enjoyed every minute of it. I will gladly return to every single restaurant/specialty shop we visited. Can't wait to return to Pasadena to enjoy the foods and beverages we tried.

Best part of our LA weekend

This was the most interesting and fun part of our trip to LA. You could enjoy the farmers market without a guide but you get so much more out of it with the extra info and structure. You also get to try more foods through the tour than buying on your own. Initially I thought the tour was a little expensive when I booked it but you really get your moneys worth! The 3rd st part was great too discovering places that I probably would have just walked by without the guide. Really really tasty food and a variety as well. Our tour guide far exceeded my expectations. She had given tours in Europe and worked for Rick Steves even! Her excitement for the food was contagious. We ended the tour wanting to come back to LA just to do another melting pot food tour! Highly recommend.

The Old Pasadena tour was great fun! Our guide was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. She took us to 7 or 8 places to eat where we learned a little about the family-owned business, architecture, and culture. Walking around Pasadena is always a treat and was even better with a guide. Delish!

Fabulous walking tour of LA Farmer's Market

One of the best tour we have ever taken. Informative about historic market and fun culinary tour and highlights of adjoining 3rd Street. Our guide Renee was enthusiastic, extremely well informed and a delight to spend time with. Would recommend to anyone. We had a teenager on our tour and 3 foreign visitors and all seemed to enjoy immensely.

Great Introduction to the Area

Fantastic information about the city's history, architecture, and food scene. Aside from the tasting sample, the tour guide also pointed out some great areas to eat and try on later trips. Highly recommended for a more in-depth lesson on the area.

Can't Stop Thinking About This Tour!!

This food tour was the third one from Melting Pot Tours that we took while we were visiting for a week in the area. We thoroughly enjoyed them all but were especially attached to the Old Pasadena Tour. This tour had the most variety and there were even a couple of "tastings" that were not what I would consider food. I'm not going to reveal what they were. You will just need to take the tour to find out. Can you believe that we were so crazy about one stop that we returned there in the evening even though we were still full from stopping there earlier in the day? My husband couldn't get enough of the complex flavors of this dining gem. All of our tour guides had been entertaining, knowledgeable, and personable. Since Nick grew up in the area he was also able to point us to some areas of interest that we explored in the day we had left. I can't say enough about the organization of all of these tours. It just amazed us how the table would be ready when we arrived and the food came almost at the same time as we sat down. One of our favorite parts of these tours was getting to chat with family business owners who could share the story behind what we saw and tasted. We have taken other food tours from other companies in other cities and I can tell you that this ranks up there with the best. Well done, Melting Pot!!

This is a gem!

We went on the tour last Friday and just had to return before leaving LA to try some of our favorite places again and try some new ones mentioned but not tasted. The Farmer's Market is so wonderfully overwhelming that having a guide made all of the difference. Renee, our guide, obviously appreciated the history and uniqueness of the market and was able to convey that passion. What made the 3rd street part of the tour stand out were the hidden gems along that street that you would never know unless you had the inside scoop provided by Melting Pot Tours. This was our second tour with Melting Pot and they continued to provide the foodie/local cultural experience we were looking for.

We appreciated learning about the history of Pasadena through such an engaging and first-hand experience. The stops at the olive oil and tea shops were equally informative. Well done!

Wonderful way to experience Old Pasadena!
Sun, Apr 7  10:30 AM jodiann01 Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
What an amazing way to spend a few hours in Pasadena! Our group was in town for a convention and had evening flights out of LAX. We decided to try this walking tour of Old Pasadena since it was close to our convention hotel (Pasadena Hilton.) Our guide was a local man (Nick) who had lived in the Pasadena area his entire life. He was passionate about sharing his love of the city and its history with us, sharing architectural information and local business history. When they tell you not to eat before starting the tour, they're not kidding! We stopped at so many places, experiencing a myriad of different cultural foods. Some stops involved just a small sampling, while others were close to being a full-sized meal! We were absolutely stuffed by the end of the tour! Most of the business owners were friendly and informative. Bring a shopping bag, as there are several opportunities to purchase great locally-produced items. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes; the walk isn't long, but you are strolling around Old Pasadena for a few hours.

A nice way to experience downtown

The tour started with a couple of restaurants that were nothing special. But as the tour went on, we were pleasantly surprised by the variety of local establishments we visited that we wouldn't have known about. We left satisfied but not stuffed, and with a real sense of Old Pasadena.
