| This was a really nice walking tour, learning the history of Farmers Market and the Fairfax district in a casual atmosphere. The food tasting was great as was the tour guide. | ||||||

| Loved our guide Diane! She was fabulous and extremely knowledgable. I live in Simi Valley and have never been to the Farmers Market, so this was such a treat for me. All the vendors were courteous and genuinely seemed excited about having us taste their products and hear about their establishments. I would thoroughly recommend this tasting tour to all. My only draw back to the tasting, was the amount of carbs being tasted ie cookies, donuts, bread, candy etc.... The brazillian bbq was fantastic and the chinese chicken salad from Joans was to die for. All in all a very, very nice tour....... | ||||||

| It was an excellent experience. I've spoken to multi-year natives of LA and they haven't seen as much of the area in their lives as we did in a few hours. Great time. | ||||||

| My wife and I just love to try new places. being the LA locals we are, we have been to the Farmer's Market before and do enjoy it. But being able to hear the history of the place made it that much more enjoyable. The tour was fun, and the other people on it were interesting. This tour is an awesome way to spend the morning, just be sure to wear comfy shoes. | ||||||

| This is a great tour, excellent tour maestra, very knowledgeable, friendly, shows you a different face of L.A. At the beginning I wasn't very confident on taking the tour, but now I'm glad I did, I took another tour after this one and it was not even close... hope they do more tours, variety wise... A+ Recommended!!! | ||||||

Old Town Pasadena Food Tour

| The tour was a birthday gift for my boyfriend. Our tour guide, Lisa, took us to lots of unique and out of the way places we may not have found on our own. She also had lots of interesting history of the area. The food at our first stop was very good and the sample was very generous. Although, it was said we would not need to eat afterwards, I felt the samples were not as filling as led to believe. We could have had a light breakfast and then the samples would have been filling. Overall, I would recommend this experience to anyone who has never been to Pasadena or would like a unique date. | ||||||

| We had a fun time on this tour and would recommend to family and friends of all ages, local or not. Diane was very informative and friendly, the small groups were great, and the tour length is not too long and not too short. Price is fair and we enjoyed learning about other points of interest within the city. The only thing I would change about this tour is the fact that about half of the stops are pastries/sweets and I would take some out and replace it with other tastings as the sweets were getting overwhelming for both of us. Would recommend. | ||||||

| I have tried the Farmer's Market/3rd Street Food tour from Melting Pot Food Tours before and was so happy about the experience that I couldn't wait for the Pasadena tour! I love Pasadena but don't get to spend much time there. Me and a group of girlfriends joined Lisa on their VERY first customer tour of Old Town Pasadena! Lisa did a wonderful job telling stories of Pasadena's history and leading us around to some truly fantastic stores and restaurants. Mignon chocolates was divine :) There are a couple of kinks to work out, for instance many of the stores in Old Town weren't open for business during the early part of the tour, so I think Lisa and Diane are planning an evening tour! The food was great, the company was great, and I can't wait to do it again! And the Farmer's Market Tour too :D Thanks Melting Pot Food Tours for a wonderful exploration of Pasadena! | ||||||

| My sister took me on this tour for my birthday because I'm an amateur foodie, and though I've lived here for 10 years, I still love to discover new things about LA. It was the PERFECT gift! Of course I've been to the Fairfax Farmer's Market and The Grove a million times, but I'll never look at it the same way again. Now I know what that random gas pump is about, how long it takes to make the most delicious doughnut I've ever had, and why there's always a HUGE line at the Pampas Grill. We stopped at stall after stall, talking to the owners (some of which took over from their great-great grandparents), asking questions about their wares and EATING!! We tasted everything from olives to toffee to monkey bread! It’s like breakfast and lunch are included in the price. After the market, the three-and-a-half hour tour continued to 3rd Street as we walked towards the Beverly Center, learning about the history of the city, window-shopping at the unique stores, and eating even more! Highlights included a chat with the owner of The Cook's Library, meeting THE Joan of Joan's On Third while we noshed on her Chinese Chicken Salad, and spending a good two hours in LA without catching sight of a Starbucks. The whole day was so much fun, and so well organized. All of the shop owners were prepared with plenty of samples (even some to take home), and seemed genuinely glad to see us. As they should be! On the walk back (though there is a bus option) my sister and I returned to the bookstore to pick up a few volumes, and I'll certainly be back to Joan's to see what a $9.95 pre-wrapped tuna sandwich tastes like. Lisa, our tour guide and one of two proprietors, was a treat to spend time with. This tour is really the perfect option when you’ve got repeat guests in town who’ve already seen the sites, or just to get a fresh perspective and appreciation for the city you call home. According to their website they also do roaming dinners, and you’re sure to catch me on one of them soon! | ||||||

| Melting Pots Tour is a 3.5 hour long food tasting, walking tour, starting inside Farmer’s Market, continuing along 3rd Street all the way to Beverly Center. The group is small and intimate (we were 9). A very knowledgeable guide (one of the two the sisters who actually own the company) leads you in a comfortable pace through various counters, stores and restaurants, with food tasting stops all along the way. Point is to really let you taste the “Melting Pot” that LA is – we have coffee from Ethiopia, Brazilian barbeque and French pastry … Think there were in all about 13 stops. Our enthusiastic and very good guide also provides a lot of useful and interesting stories and information about the area (Midtown) and it’s history. Hours went on really fast! If you are tired of being shuttled around Beverly Hills in a bus loaded with other tourists, desperately glanzing out of the window, hoping to catch even the smallest glimpse of a tennis court maybe once owned by a now deceased movie star – take this tour instead! Makes you feel you really get to see a small piece of LA from the inside. An extra plus is of course if you are interested in, and like good food ... Only reason the tour doesn’t reach the absolute top score is that there was a little too large selection of sweets/pastries for our taste. Would have preferred more “food dishes” instead. Otherwise it was a tour I absolutely recommend – even to you living in LA! | ||||||

| This is the second tour I've taken with Melting Pot. Lisa is a great guide. She mixes in a little history and fun facts about the city, restaurants and owners with great food. She chooses out of the way places one may not otherwise know. I'm already looking forward to the next tour stop! | ||||||

| The Farmer's Market and 3rd Street Food Tasting tour was the first of its kind that I have tried so I don't have data to compare. That said, here are a few pros and items that I found to be very positive--1) friendliness and interaction of tour guides, 2) size of group, 3) tour location, 4) variety of food tasting (ethnicity), 5) choice of restaurants (responsible, community-minded, small(er) businesses), and 6) price of tour. A few items to consider for future tours--1) choosing fewer stops (felt rushed at times), and 2) incorporate a few more stops where group can actually sit down to listen to history of business and taste the sample rather than standing on sidewalk (Joan's)or just inside doorway of establishment (Japanese place.) All in all my friends and I had a great time and hope to take other tours in the future. | ||||||

| Enthusiastic tour leader. My 26-year-old daughter and her boyfriend had a great time with me and her father. We're local, and we'll be back to further enjoy the places we were introduced to. | ||||||
