Fun and Fascinating!

The tour was thoroughly enjoyable! Jim was great (as he was on our North End Tour) and his knowledge of the area and the Chinese customs and culture is superb. The food samples were delicious and now we feel comfortable going into many of the shops in Chinatown. In fact, 3 days after the tour we stopped into the Barbeque shop for take-out! Finishing up with the dim sum lunch is an excellent idea. We have already recommended this tour to friends.

My husband and I, who currently live in Boston, took his aunt and uncle who were visiting us from the midwest on this tour on a Thursday morning. We can't say enough good things about it. Jim is extremely knowledgeable about Chinese culture, and his absolute comfort level with the language and customs of China and with this unique neighborhood of Boston gave us the confidence to immerse ourselves in the Chinatown experience. The uncle is anything BUT an adventurous eater and Jim was quite sensitive to and respectful of that. Imagine our surprise, then, when at dim sum the uncle chose to eat chicken feet! I attribute that to his absolute trust in Jim after we had spent the morning in his company. At the conclusion of the tour we went back independently to several of the Chinatown businesses we had visited to get food and merchandise to take home. One last note: There is lots of good eating on this tour, even before dim sum, so don't eat a big breakfast beforehand!

My friend and I had very much enjoyed the North End Tour a few years ago and so this time opted for the Chinatown tour. Our tour guide, Jim, was very knowledgeable and delightful as well. This tour was far more exotic. We fully enjoyed the entire experience (and every fascinating bite). The lunch at the end was the best part. A fantastic treat all told. I would highly recommend both tours!

AFTER THE TOUR, I REALLY HAVE A MUCH BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF THE CHINESE FOODS, CULTURE, THE PEOPLE OF BOSTON'S CHINESE SECTION, SHOPPING FOR EXOTIC FOODS AND ORDERING DIM SUM. WE ENJOYED A SUNNY MORNING IN A VERY CONCENTRATED ETHNIC NEIGHBORHOOD. JIM, WHO SPEAKS THE LANGUAGE, HELPED US TO FEEL PART OF THE LARGER PICTURE. WITH HIS INTERJECTION OF CHINESE WORDS, HE MADE EVERY TIDBIT A FASCINATING FOREIGN ADVENTURE; A STEP INTO A DIFFERENT WORLD. THANKS FOR THE TRIP!

Experience Chinatown

This was a fantastic tour well worth the price of admission. Jim Brecker our tour guide was knowledgable because of his background as a chef and having lived in China. He also speaks the language so we felt like we fit right in. We learned about the history of Chinatown, sampled food and had a wonderful dim sum lunch. We were also provided with Jim's top picks of restaurants that we could try at a later date. This is a great tour and I would highly recommend it to friends and family.

Jim Becker is the best!!

We planned this tour because of the GREAT experience we had with the North End Tour and to become comfortable with Chinatown. Our tour guide once again, was Jim Becker. He's a gifted teacher with a special way of sharing information on such a varied, complicated culture. His tour starts with an overview of the country and how the various areas differ in their respective cuisines. We then proceeded to several shops to sample goodies and/or to observe - such as in the herbal pharmacy. The tour ends with a Dim Sum luncheon. Jim explained the history and table etiquette of the food, which was very good. We did not like using our chop sticks for serving utensils as well as eating utensils, as everyone in our group poked around in all the food being passed. We felt there must have been a tremendous amount of effort to get a tour like this together because our general feeling was that the people in Chinatown were indifferent. We did not feel as though they embraced our enthusiasm for their culture. Overall the tour was worth the time and money to us. We learned a great deal. Again, thank you to Jim Becker.

We loved our guide and his knowledge of Chinatown and Boston. It was fun to look into the shops and get a taste of authentic cuisine. This is our second culinary tour and we are hooked!
