Completely Absorbing - Beautifully Done Tour
Thu, Sep 24  9:30 AM BTagliarino Female 70+ Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The tour was hosted by Jim, the same host that also did the Italian North End Tour that we took last year. He is just the best -- he speaks the language of the locals as well as filled us full of the history of the Chinese settlement in the Boston area. He took us to every location mentioned on the tour outline, the bakery, the candy store, an antique store, herb store and grocery store (explaining at each location significant information regarding items that were available and how they were used and/or tasted). Then the final stop for a dim sum lunch. The hours passed quickly. We returned the next day to the same restaurant for dim sum, went to the herb store and purchased three items that he pointed out and also visited another store he recommended we take a look at that was not on the tour - Vessel's. You will not be disappointed selecting this tour. It is totally worth the $$ spent.

Great experience...

I booked the Chinatown Market tour after finding this tour while looking for Dim Sum restaurants in Boston. We were very happy with the tour, as we learned a lot about the background of Boston's Chinatown and got to see a variety of shops, and taste samples at each stop. We especially enjoyed the Chinese grocery store tour. The overall tour was well organized and the tour guide very knowledgeable and easy to understand. We were given tips on what some of the better restaurants are in Chinatown, in a printed handout. We intend to return to Chinatown more often now that we have had our introduction. The Dim Sum lunch at the end of the tour was very fun and we had a variety of Dim Sum type of foods. Dim Sum is a Chinese buffet that they bring to you, with servers bringing food continously in rolling carts. The lunch and all food samples in the shops along the way, are included in the tour price. Have fun.

A wonderful adventure

This was a wonderful tour, dispute the pouring rain. I think we found it so interesting that the rain was a mute point. We had the same tour guide Jim, on our North End tour that we took last year. Jim just fills you with information in such a great way...no boring history lessons from him!! The food, the information, the people, just made it a very welcoming and fun experience!

Tour guide was very familiar with the language and the culture. We became familiar with a variety of shops and customs of the Chinese people. The tour was well thought out and very organized. The weather was not accommodating but that did not take away from the positive experience.

Having taken the wonderful North End Market Tour several years ago, we looked forward to this Market Tour of Chinatown and were not disappointed. Jim, the leader, is informative about food, Chinese history and language, and this area specifically. The shops chosen are both unique to Chinatown and traditional in products. The highlight is the dim sum lunch. We knew nothing about these wonderful dishes (other than Chinese buffets at a hometown restaurant) and would have had no idea of how to order them or even find a restaurant specializing in them. Absolutely great! Attitude is everything: be prepared to have the opportunity to taste unusual and unexpected things....it's worth it!

This was an event my wife and I had been talking about for years. So much so, that my daughter gave me gift certificates to this tour for my birthday. Our Tour Guide was excellent and extremely well-qualified for this event. We visited various restaurants and pastry shops as well as unique gift shops and even an herbal pharmacy. Interesting history of the culture and locale was pleasantly sprinkled in along the way. Of course, other individuals on the tour can make the going much more satisfying. We had such a fine group. I wish we had visited other shops such as Jewelry, Porcelain, Wood and Gadget Shops. It was a GREAT excursion and we next want to attend the North End Tour. Looking forward to meeting Michele there. And yes, we will again take the Chinatown Tour.

I have already recommended the Chinatown tour to several of my Boston friends. My husband and I took two of our teenage grandchildren on the tour and they said it was one of two highlights of the week. Our tour guide, Jim, was an educator, chef and historian. We have also taken the Chinatown tour in San Francisco and the Boston tour is different, but equal in information and interest. We will be back.

Chinatown review

My friends and I recently took the Boston Chinatown Tour. Our tour guide, Jim, was amazing and shared his knowledge of Chinese culture from his first hand experience of living in Taiwan. The tour helped us become more familiar with Boston's Chinatown and encouraged us all to make a return visit to sample more Chinese barbeque and especially the Dim Sum. Our group would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Boston. It was excellent.
