North End Market Tour

Several of us decided to do this as an activity to get together and have fun. We certainly did. Our guide, Dick, was knowledgeable, personable and entertaining. He was quite receptive to questions and took the time to answer everyones in a very hospitable way. I would recommend this to anyone.

We've done "food tours" in other large cities, some 5 star, some 2 star. This was definitely a 5 star tour that included not only some food tastings but history, fascinating information about traditional Italian ingredients and procedures, and meeting some really fun North End characters and proprietors. Other food tours we've been on have been heavy on the samples but light on the actual teaching about the area and the cuisine. This was NOT one of those. The sampling was fine, we certainly didn't leave full, but were able to try some real quality things that made sense with the information given. We definitely made a trip back to several of the places we toured for more. This was a 3 hour tour and we were on our feet the entire time. Not a good tour for those who can't do that. Do this tour before you choose your venue for your Italian dinner in the North End, you'll not only get to see the area and some of the restaurants, but will get good tips from your guide.

Beth was a superb tour guide, so knowledgeable and friendly. Perfect group size, not too big. Informative, fun tour. Can't say enough good things about it. I'm going back with my family for the same tour!

A great activity for parents of older children with an interest in neighborhood history, food or both. Entertainingly informative with some fascinating insights into Boston's North End.

The East End Tour provided us with everything you want to know about Italian foods and cooking with food sampling to make you want to come back for more...and we did! Tour guide/former chef was VERY knowledgeable and had such enthusiasm for the Italian way of life. We would definitely recommend to others.

Being local, we weren't expecting much. We'd been to the North End before but the kids gave it to us for Christmas last year and we figured we should use it before Christmas rolled around again. Not only was it informative and educational, it was lot of fun. I guess most of our experience is in the outragously priced restaurants and not in the reasonably priced shops. We got to taste Italian pastry, different olive oils and vinegars, we bought fresh figs (which were incredible) and parma ham and authentic nutella. My husband and I have decided that we will do a pilgramage once a month to the North End and visit all the shops we visisted on the tour and maybe a couple extra trips for the holday season. We would truly recommend this for anyone looking for a fun afternoon.

This tour is a wonderful tour! We had a great time with both the tour guide and the other people on the tour. It was interesting to hear a little of the history of the north end and then try the different samples throughout the day. The store people were also very hospitable toward us. We ended up going to one of the authentic restaurants that were listed on the sheets that were given to us after the tour and enjoyed our meal. It was a great tour and we will definately be scheduling for the Chinatown tour later on in the year! I have lived in Massachusetts all my life but have never gone to the North-end for the day, though have been to many other parts of Boston. We will certainly go back and bring our family and friends. What a great tour! I learned so much and had a great time. The tour took us thru the North End of Boston. In this Italian neighborhood, we were introduced to several shop keepers who happily shared authentic Italian foods with us. We taste tested delicacies and specialties that I had never had such as figs, fennel, fresh ricotta cheese, and olives stuffed with gorgonzola. Intertwined with the taste tests was tons of information on Italian cooking, culture and history. Helpful handouts and maps enabled us to explore after the tour and shop to our hearts content, armed with new recipes and enthusiasm. I highly recommend this tour!

This was one of the best walking food tours my husband and I have experienced. Our guide was very knowledgeable and extremely interesting. We will definitely sign up for another tour in the future.
