Great Market Tour
Sat, Jul 19  11:00 AM Ginshepp Female 50-59 Local Couple on a Date
How lucky were we to get a tour by Michelle! She is so knowledgable about her neighborhood, the markets, traditions and history. This was a nice behind the scenes and insiders tour of a great neighborhood. Michelle pointed us in the right direction to find authentic and quality products in an area that is fast becoming Americanized. Don't hesitate, book a tour!

The guide was very well informed and was very practical in his insights to help us better buy and cook ourselves. The shops we visited were all very high quality and knew their products. We revisited several of them after the tour for wine, oils, spices....... I would like to do this again with some other friends who I know would love it. Highly recommended.

great introduction to Boston's Chinatown
Thu, Jul 17  9:30 AM donnamholt12 Female 50-59 Local Individual
I thoroughly enjoyed my introduction to Chinatown. Our tour guide Jackie was knowledgeable and very competent. She was a lot of fun. The stops were just enough to get a good feel for the neighborhood without being overwhelming. The final stop for Dim Sum was educational and delicious! I strongly recommend this tour.

A new view of Chinatown
Sat, Jul 12  9:30 AM Jeanette2 Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
I would never have known the fine details of Chinatown if it hadn't been for this tour. Our guide pointed out architecture that could easily have been missed. We sampled foods that were outstanding and he was knowledgeable about the culture and the customs of Asian people as well as being about the speak the language.

excellant and informative tour of Chinatown

Jim was our tour guide and speaks Mandarin and Cantonese languages. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Chinese customs. Food, China town itself. He started with a general history of the area and then we visited a meat market, a restaurant he recommended, a Chinese Herbal shop, a Chinese market and then had a Dim Sum lunch. All interspersed with more information and history. We gained so much more knowlegde about the area, food, customs etc than before we started. I highly recommend this tour and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Was trying to figure out something to do on my own that wasn't the usual Boston history. Thought this looked fun and different, and it was! Jim was an outstanding guide. Met my husband for dinner in the North End after the tour, at a restaurant highly recommended by Jim--he steered us well!

Pretty good

Tour was okay, but not nearly as good as the same tour a friend and I took w/ the same company three yrs ago. This was largely b/c of the guide who wasn't bad, but not nearly as good as the gentleman of prior tour.

Very Informative and Fun

I enjoyed the tour more than I thought. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. I lived in Italy for a year and was afraid I wouldn't really learn anything new, but I actually learned a lot! Most of the places were pretty small, but the group wasn't huge and we managed to mostly have enough space. Most of the places did have seats if you needed them. It was also nice that the guide gave us water if we needed it, since it was hot out. The samples were good and just the right amount. Overall I like it a lot. Not sure I needed it to last for 3 hours, but it passed by pretty quickly. Would probably do another tour with this company.

Enthusiastic North End fans - NOW
Sat, Jul 5  2:00 PM VAlani Female 50-59 Local Family With Children
we had an amazing outing on this tour. We learned about the insider's view of what is seemingly a tourist destination - but the behind the scenes insight made us LOVE it. We have been talking and cooking and eating Italian ever since, and my children (teens) now appreciate the quality and lifestyle of Italian cuisine much more now. thank you!!

Amazing Look into the Culture of the North End
Sat, Jul 5  10:00 AM Kirsten66 Unspecified 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
I was initially unsure what to expect from this tour. I had heard it described as a "food tour of the North End" which was interesting. But I was surprised that the tour would span an entire three hours. All three hours were used to their fullest, despite the small amount of distance walked the tour itself was rich with information and content. I learned more than I had ever thought to know about both traditional and non traditional Italian cooking, the owners of the shops visited and the customs of the not only Italy but how they had migrated to the North End. Our tour guide, Beth, was engaged and interesting and seemed to have a genuine connection with the owners of the little groceries we visited and a real appreciation for her craft (cook and tour guide). The restaurants she recommended were superb. The information presented may be a little ho hum for gourmets and foodies already familiar with Italian cooking but to a lay person like me it was fascinating

Great Tour

We received a gift certificate from our children. Everyone enjoyed the tour. Beth, our tour guide had great knowledge of the area, shops and history. The store operators were very pleasant. Beth gave us some recommendations for lunch and we decided to go to Monica's Trattoria. Can't say enough about the pasta shops, coffee and spice store and the great Maria's Pastry Shop, Bricco Panetteria and the great Artisan Bread. Loved Monica's Salumeria and Pasta shop.

Informational and Delicious
Mon, Jun 30  10:00 AM TroyDLocke Female 40-49 Local Individual
I was excited to find some of the best hidden gems in Little Italy. This tour exposed me not only to great places to shop, but new ingredients and information on what to look for in certain other ingredients. It was great all around. Lots of walking though - be prepared, especially if it's hot! I would just say that it would be a better idea to hand out the pamphlets at the end of the tour so that guests wouldn't have to carry them the whole 3 hours.

Worth the Money!

Our guide, Beth, was very knowledgeable and personable. Loaded with historic facts and cultural information, she took us on a fast-paced, fun and informative tour of the North End. We had lived here many years ago and it was very interesting to hear the area's history and how it had changed through the years. Also, as a self-professed foodie and gourmet, the culinary information was quite interesting. Only one thing I would take issue with was that she helped perpetuate the urban legend that there are male and female eggplants. LOL!! Once the ovary is pollinated, there is no distinction in the "sex" of a fruit...I didn't want to disagree with her on her tour, as this myth is shared by many. (I have a botany major, and will assure that it is just that: a myth!) Nonetheless, I would go again, as I have already gone back to shop at some of the markets! Vanilla beans for $1.50!!! They are something like $12.00/each at home! My suitcase will have the best fragrance!! YUM!! Highly recommend!
