Living just outside of Boston, the North End wasn't a place I frequented often. Maybe a dinner at a known place. The tour opened my eyes to true Italian food. I felt like a kid in a candy shop in many of the stores, planning my next cooking adventure. My husband, not a foodie, but someone who loves to eat - really enjoyed learning more about the history and experiencing the culture of the North End. After the tour we ventured out to buy spices, oils, vinegar and sweet goodies to bring home. I now feel very at home in the North End to go shopping for the best of the best... at prices that are cheaper than at my own grocery store.

This was a great introduction to the inner workings of the North End. Went to stores where the locals shop and can't wait to go back and "buy like them". I had done this tour about 5 years ago and, with the exception of Polcari's, everywhere else was new. Such a treat.

Excellent Tour

Our guide, I think her name was Beth, was very interesting and informative. The only change I would suggest is not making the first stop so long, I think it was over an hour. Any make seating more available along the tour. Other than that I have recommended this tour to several people.

This tour is educational about the history of the North End, Italian cultural practices related to adapting to a new country, and some finer points about ingredients that make Italian food so good. Our guide, Jim was outstanding in sharing his extensive knowledge, engaging us into conversation and answering all of our questions. There is a lot of time on your feet, walking and talking so be prepared with really comfortable shoes. My group of 6 thoroughly enjoyed the tour. We plan to return to the North End next year to dine out for dinner, We also plan to attend the Chinatown tour, also offered by this company. We give this 5 stars (out of 5)!

We really enjoyed our tour of the North End. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The 3 hours flew by as we toured the quaint little specialty shops and purveyors in this little gem of Boston. We also learned quite a bit about the history of the North End and the various ethnic groups to live there through its history.

I've taken several North End tours over the years, all of which have been good, but this one was GREAT. Our tour guide, Beth, came from a 32 year teaching background so she was excellent at engaging the group and giving us so much interesting and rich history of the North End (before and after it became a "little Italy") with such enthusiasm you couldn't help but have fun AND learn at the same time. There were 3 in our group, and we all thought she did a wonderful job all the while tying the food history into our adventure. We are now looking forward to our tour of Chinatown in Boston!! Great tour, you won't be sorry.

This was a wonderful way to visit the North End. All the stops were excellent although I might suggest the first stop to be less long.

Jim was an extremely knowledgeable guide. Great variety of shops provided opportunity to taste every part of a menu including antipasta (cheeses, salamis, ) homemade pasta, bread, fresh produce, pastries and liquors. When you finish the tour you can't wait to return to each stop to buy more of what you sampled. Very useful handouts were provided with both information about each stop as well as their recommendations for many restaurants . Would make a great gift or activity for families with adult children or out of town guests. First rate tour that provides a terrific inside view of this unique neighborhood

I took the tour with a group of girlfriends who love the North End - and we visit together, annually on the first weekend of November. Weather notwithstanding, this was so much fun!!!! we all enjoyed it, all learned a lot and have recommended to many people already. Tour guide was great, and all the spots we visited we will definitely go back to.

The weather was miserable, rainy and raw. Even in the unpleasant conditions the Tour and our Guide were great. Very informative regarding local history as well as the origin of Italian cuisine. The tour last three hours but does not seem like it. The local establishments were warm and welcoming. The taste testing was delicious as well as educational. My Wife, Son and Daughter-in-Law all agree that we would do it again and will recommend to friends and family.
