Loved the bits about Italian Culture
Wed, Oct 8, 08   10:00 AM supernessa Female 30-39 Combination Individual
I am from Italy, and I heard a lot about Boston's North end. I found it incredibly fascinating to learn what kind of things Americans don't know about our culture, and learn about how the Italian culinary culture evolved in the US since the first immigration wave at the beginning of the 1900s. Our amazing guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the little nuances of Italian culture and how it evolved in the century it's been away from Italy. Fascinating tour, I highly recommend it!

Michele is very personable and informed. This was my third time on the tour over the past 10 or 12 years. Always interesting and a wonderful thing to do with someone who has never been before.

We had a wonderful time and learned a lot. Beth was great, as were the samples. We highly recommend this tour and look forward to going back to the North End to explore on our own with our new-found knowledge.

The group had a great time on this trip and would enthusiastically reccomend it to others. The one complaint was that the cost of the trip was extremely expensive and limited the number of people who signed up.

Another great tour by Michele

Myself and four girlfriends took this tour. We had all taken the North End tour previosuly - I personally have gone on that tour four times (taking different friends from out of town). So, we expected an informative, fun and interesting tour and that's precisely what we got! Jim was our tour guide. He was particularly interesting due to the fact that he is/was a chef. There were a few cooks in our group and he had many different insights about the chinese cooking methods and foods. Some of the girls have already tried some of his suggestions. I personally tried the Okinowan purple sweet potatoes the way he suggested and now can't get enough of them! I would recommend this tour to any one of any age. And will probably be taking this one again with some of the out of town friends I took to the North End tour! Kudso to Michele!

It was fun. Some shops were a little crowded.

Wonderful

This was a wonderful tour. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tour guide (Richard, I believe) was knowledgeable and entertaining. The information that was handed out on the local shops , the tour, and restaurants were extremely helpful. As was the map. We were able to go back to all of the shops after the tour. The only problem we had was as the area got busier, it also got louder and we had a hard time hearing him over the street noise. If the tour guide could wear some kind of microphone, that would help. We will be recommending this tour to others. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Interesting, but uncomfortable.

The guide was excellent and informed. However, the tour route and locations were uncomfortable with lots of standing and poor accoustics. The weather is deifinately an issue and in this case the wind was relentless.

Our guide was extremely knowledgable. We learned so much about a large variety of food related items. You are on your feet for the whole time though and that was uncomfortable.

Fun and Facts on Tour of Boston 's North End
Fri, Oct 3, 08   3:00 PM maryjomiller Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the history of the North End, as well as American-Italian and Italian cuisines. He provided handouts and mini-lectures at each shop we stopped on our 5 shop tour. I would highly recommend this tour and suggest that if you are a tourist do the tour early in your trip (not the last day, as I did.) I returned to some of the shops to purchase items to take home and to give as gifts. I had a great time!

One of the best we've ever gone on! We have been going to the NorthEnd for years--we learned about places we had never heard of, and learned alot about Italian food, and the history of the North End

What a terrific time we had meandering through the streets of the North End! Jim gave us so much information that will undoubtedly help with future preparation of Italian food at home. We were thrilled with everything he told us, from learning whether we had a male or female eggplant to finding out how balsamic vinegar is made. We also thoroughly enjoyed the historical information he shared about the North End. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
