A must do tour when visiting the city!!
Wed, Aug 19  2:00 PM DebParziale Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
Jim was our tour guide and he shared so much information about the history of the North End, the food, the culture. He was phenomenal, as was the tour itself. We absolutely loved the markets, bakery and wine store. We are planning a trip to Tuscanny next fall with a group of friends and Jim gave us so much helpful information for us to bring back to our group to share. The samples of food were terrific. It is amazing to find out the 'stuff' we don't know about Italian cuisine. I would take the tour again in a heartbeat!!! Thanks so much.

fun for locals and tourists

The tour was great. It combined culinary, historical, and practical information. We learned things ranging from the history of the neighborhood to how to store olive oil to the sordid history of American balsamic vinegar. We were shown shops that were non-touristy, even a market with no sign and no phone number. I just moved to the area so now I know quality places to shop. However, tourists would enjoy the tour as well. Delicious samples too!!!

Learned more than expected

My wife and I took this North End Market Tour on the advice of a friend. We only live a couple of miles away in the South End. I learned more than I expected about food, not just Italian cuisine, but food in general. We love to dine out, and now I see why certain restaurants are outstanding in their selection and quality of food. Our guide, Jim, was an ex chef who worked in, as well as owned fine restaurants The suggestions he gave will help my own shopping , cooking, and dining needs. It was a hot day, but the pace of the tour was just right and worth every penny!! Take this tour, even if you think you know the North End.

The only comment would be that the intro while we were sitting at the Greenway was difficult to hear due to street noise. Since the information was so interesting and set the tone for the History of the area..one would not want to miss a word.

Don't miss this excellent overview of Chinatown!

This was an event my wife and I had been talking about for years. So much so, that my daughter gave me gift certificates to this tour for my birthday. Our Tour Guide was excellent and extremely well-qualified for this event. We visited various restaurants and pastry shops as well as unique gift shops and even an herbal pharmacy. Interesting history of the culture and locale was pleasantly sprinkled in along the way. Of course, other individuals on the tour can make the going much more satisfying. We had such a fine group. I wish we had visited other shops such as Jewelry, Porcelain, Wood and Gadget Shops. It was a GREAT excursion and we next want to attend the North End Tour. Looking forward to meeting Michele there. And yes, we will again take the Chinatown Tour.

I was in Boston for a conference and had a free afternoon. Since I was by myself, I wanted a group tour but was looking for something a little different than the regular tourist circuit. Would DEFINITELY recommend to friends!!!

Our leader was a chef and knew a lot about food. He, also, knew a lot about the history of the area. I appreciated the guidance he gave about where to shop. We used the recipees on the web site the next night, and they were wonderful!

Interesting and Informative

My husband and I loved both tours which we took last weekend. Jim, the tour guide both days, was well versed in the history of both the North End and Chinatown and spent a good amount of time in the beginning of each tour talking about the history of each area and summarizing what we would be seeing on the tour. We have taken the North End tour several times before and do not remember having this in depth talk and we think it's a great idea. We learned lots of facts which we did not know before. Also, Jim was very knowledgeable about the food items he discussed at each stop and was just a very energetic and upbeat guide. We highly recommend both tours and plan to spread the word among our friends!

I feel that the tour covered the just the right amount of history and flavor. (literally and figuratively) Had a wonderful time and will return to the North end much more astutely.

Fri, Aug 14  10:00 AM mizeryztool Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Our tour guide, Dick, was fantastic. The shops we visited and the history provided was informative and entertaining. My favorite part was the Italian water ice, how refreshing!! Tasted the best olive oil and rubio I've ever had, and even took some home! Lemoncello was phenominal too. Excellent experience!

I have already recommended the Chinatown tour to several of my Boston friends. My husband and I took two of our teenage grandchildren on the tour and they said it was one of two highlights of the week. Our tour guide, Jim, was an educator, chef and historian. We have also taken the Chinatown tour in San Francisco and the Boston tour is different, but equal in information and interest. We will be back.

Great Experience

This tour was fun and informative. We visited places that I had walked by on many occasions but never had the time to stop. We learned a lot about different Italian ingredients and how they're prepared, and a lot about the history of the North End. Well worth the time and money.
