I absolutely loved this tour. I had been wanting to do it for some time and I am so glad that I did. The guide (Jim) was just great. He was VERY knowledgable about both Italian foods and history of the North End. We got a great tour that included pastry shops, Italian groceries, wine shops, spice shops, etc. I learned so much that I cannot wait to organize all my notes. We got very helpful handouts and had so much fun. It is one of the best tours I have ever taken anywhere. I will recommend it to any of my friends that are traveling to Boston.

Great way to spend some time with good friends. You do not have enough time to buy items at the individual stores on the tour because there is so much to see. Try to do a morning tour and plan to eat lunch in the North End and then head back to some of the shops you visited.

I grew up in an Italian American family. This tour was like reliving my childhood while learning thing I did not know. Now I understand why my family did things the way we did. Jim was a great our guide and teacher. My friends and I are looking forward to joining you again when you get that China town tour orgainized!

After visiting the North End numerous times throughout the years, it was nice to learn some of the history about the area. The choices were good and the variety of places visited was a good mix. The weather was perfect not too hot, but even though there was a slight drizzle, it was comfortable. Our group was a bit quiet, but no one has control over the mix. I realize, because of 'space' in some of the shops, it was not possible to go inside, but it was o.k. being on the side walk for a short time. It was fun for my husband and I and we will certainly miss Boston and North End when we move to Florida next month. Being of Italian heritage, the foods we saw brought back many memories. And after going to Mike's and Modern bakeries for many years, it was great to be introduced to MARIE'S Pastry Shop. Her pastries were deliscious and so flavorful. We had a great time and Jim did a great job!
Rating: 5 Very informative and interesting history.

I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. There were food samples in the various stores we went to and the history of the neighborhood was very interesting. It was well worth the money for the tour and our guide was very helpful with tips on where to eat. He was also very happy to answer all of our questions. I felt that he wasn't in a hurry to get rid of us so he could go home. I loved the tour.

Jim was a fascinating tour guide and we learn a lot! Wish we could have done a bit more tasting, though. We had lots of fun despite the rain.

My two daughters and I had looked forward to our trip to Boston for a long weekend for many months. Unfortunately, we were met by record low temps in May accompanied by flooding rains. We were determined not to let the weather get us down and the North End Market Tour, with Jim as our guide, made our otherwise dismal day, a very memorable one. A most personable, and knowledgeable man, Jim brightened our day with his wealth of "inside" information from this historic area. The tour was rich with colorful stories laced with his culinary expertise. We hated to see it end. Rain, or shine, this tour is not to be missed!!! Pam Plymouth, MN

We really enjoyed the tour, my wife and I both cook and loved the ensights that Michael gave regarding Italian cooking. It was a plus to get the history of the East End as well. In the Pacific Northwest, we do not enjoy the varity of goods that we encountered, but we certainly are on the lookout now to buy the right stuff to make authentic Italian dishes. Our tour ran a little overtime, but we wished we could have had more! Well worth the money and time. Thanks, Steve and Nan

I like the history of Italian cooking, and I like how the tour guide was a former chef. I definitely learned a lot from this tour; however, I did think the tour was a little long. My personal concentration span is about 2 hours for a tour.

Most of the tour was as expected, a brief history of the area might have been better. All in all, there were too many facts given to take a lot away with you. I felt the tour guide Beth was informed but had made little effort in her appearence. Her attire, hair and shoes were unprofessional. I thought there would be more information about bread, meat and spices generally associated with Italian dining and cooking. I did learn about olive oil and balsamic vinegar, pastry and before and after dinner wines and spirits. On 100, I'd rate the experience a 70.

We loved Jim. He had great information to share and some interesting factoids. We had a small group (only 4 people on our tour) and we were very grateful that the tour wasn't cancelled. Really, every stop was great except the first one (the introduction at the wine store) which seemed to go on a little long and did not have much exploration of the store. I appreciated that he let me buy some things along the way (which he said he discouraged) since we were such a small group and we were leaving for the airport shortly thereafter. Loved the handouts and appreciated his advice on lunch and purchases. Tasting along the way was great. I suppose the best praise is that both my Mom and I said we'd bring our husbands on the tour next time we're in town. Recommendations for the future: digestive tasting - fascinating information but I'd love to try the various types he described - maybe one of the bitter drinks instead of the limoncello, which we'd had before. Overall, the best tour we took on our trip and great for foodies like us!
