A MUST DO in Boston!!!

My husband and I took the tour not knowing exactly what to expect. I was so pleased we went into it without much information as we were surprised at every turn. Our tour guide (Not Michele-a gentleman who is a former chef-forgot his name) was so interesting and knowledgeable about the stores, people, culture, and history of the North End. He introduced us to so many foods and flavors with anecdotes to go along with each item/store/person. A truly special tour. I would do it again in a heartbeat.

An incredible amount of information was packed into our tour......about history, food, culture, cooking, diet and of course, the neighborhood. Our guide (Jim) was personable, fun, funny and as mentioned, very knowledgeable. I wanted to plan, shop and host a dinner party immediately after the tour.

Jim, our tour guide was so knowledgeable. I am a caterer so I love anything to do with food. I took my Mom as a birthday gift. We both really enjoyed it. We are considering doing the Chinatown tour.

I thoroughly enjoyed the North End Market Tour along with my daughter and a good friend. It was like a private tour since it was just the three of us. Our guide, Jim, was very imformative. We plan on going back into the North End before the holidays to purchase some food products that interested us. It was really nice to be able to sample some of the food products, olive oil and vinegar. Would highly recommend the tour and would certainly make a wonderful gift for someone.

The tour was great. Interesting, never a dull moment! The 3 hours fly by. We learned about many things including Italian history, Boston history, balsamic vinegar, olive oil, fennel and figs. I highly recommend this tour even if you think you know all about the North End (I lived there for 10 years and still learned new things).

Anyone who is interested in food and cooking should not miss this tour. My friend and I were impressed with the guide who was clearly very knowledgeable about the marketplace--as well as the history and culture of the neighborhood. Her tidbits about the local color were delightful. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour.

I was so impressed with this tour. Our Guide was so knowledgble and well spoken. He did an amazing job and giving us a nice mix of history, cultural background and cuisine knowledge. It was hands down the best tour I've ever been on. I've been telling all my family and friends that they must do this tour and I'm looking forward to going on the North end tour next.

Jim was a fabulous wealth of info and enthusiasm

The Chinatown tour was awesome. Jim gave us history of China, information on the various provinces and their culture. He knew the Chinatown area and was familiar with all the stores and restaurants which we visited. I love walking through Chinatown areas; however, I am always reticent to go into shops in which I have not been recommended or already know as it is confusing. This was an eye opener to both understand more about the people and their area. I highly recommend this tour.

We did both the Chinatown and North End Tours with Jim. We learned about wines, pasta, cheese, spices and had wonderful samples at each place. We found terrific places and wonderful people. I highly recommend this tour!!

Not to be missed....

The culinary tour of Chinatown is a "not to be missed" experience. The tour guide, Jim, is part chef, part history professor, part comparison shopper and all entertainment. You will learn lots about a relatively unknown part of Boston, lots about the sometimes confusing ingredients of Chinese cooking and eat a delicious dim sum lunch. The pace is never slow but Jim answered all our questions. This is a very enjoyable way to spend a morning.

Culinary gateway to Boston's Chinatown
Thu, Oct 23, 08   9:30 AM wrbaddeley Male 50-59 Local Family Without Children
Touring Boston's Chinatown with an enthusiastic chef would be good enough, but this chef knows Chinese language and culture from years in China. He also knows and loves Boston's Chinatown and wants to share it with you. Historical sketches of the area, notes on places to visit and things to try, tastes of local cuisine, and introductions to a variety of local shops culminate in a grocery store tour and dim sum lunch. We were not strangers to the area, but we ended the tour entertained, well fed, better informed, and ready to make more of our visits to Boston's Chinatown.

My daughter and I really loved this tour. It was informative without being heavy, interesting without too much detail and varied without losing its focus.
