Tour of Boston Italian District -- Fantastic!
Sat, Dec 6, 08   10:00 AM ahoff58 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
Our tour of the Italian District of Boston was very educational and took us to places we would never have visited without the tour. Our tour guide was passionate about food and used a teaching style to guide us through our tour. The three hours flew by. The tour guide gave us lots of background on ingredients and the historic events that affected each area of Italy and the food from that area. We have already recommended the trip to anyone visiting Boston. We look forward to taking another tour by this tour company because of our experience last week. Thank you!

My wife and I very much enjoyed the tour. We had been to the North End a number of times in the past, but this tour introduced us to a number of less obvious places that were great finds. Excellent tour guide. We learned about a number of markets and restaurants that we have already returned to and enjoyed. Highly recommend the tour, and we are now interested in taking the Chinatown tour offered by the same seller.

I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in food and learning more about Boston. Our guide was excellent and we learned so much about the area and the markets that we visited. We just returned from three weeks in Europe and this was a refreshing change in a tour. If you are coming to Boston, don't miss it!

The Best Boston Tour

What a morning!!! From the time we started our tour until Jim wished us all farewell the day was everything we had hoped for. Jim has an excellent understanding of the area and the people. He made our trip interesting with his knowledge of the food and culture. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone going to Boston.

Rich with information and fun

I so appreciated the rich background of Jim Becker, our guide who could speak with shop keepers, the pharmacist, the bakers, etc. in Cantonese, thus opening doors to so many pleasant encounters. His knowledge, his enthusiasm, his guiding us to be culturally sensitive as we ate at the Restaurant , e.g. showing us how to place our chop sticks; the introduction to places where I am looking forward to return . These are just a few random thoughts . This was a gift for a few members in the family, and now my sister hinted at a gift for the trip for her and her husband as we discuss Christmas gifts. Thanks so much. Maureen

I liked the way the tour was set up with an introduction and history of the people and place we were touring. Descriptions and explanations of the shops and buisnesses we visited were interesting and insightful. Finishing the tour with dim sum was great. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and easy going. The one I was a little disappoined with was that the dim sum lunch was very rushed, and lots of different foods were coming all at once. However, I would rather have a rushed dim sum than none at all. Overall a wonderful experience. Very glad I did it and can't wait to go back to experience the area myself.

Michele was a very informative , friendly and interesting guide. She would share a few recipes along the way. I learned alot about using healthier ingredients in my cooking. I wanted to buy everything, but will have to retrace my steps at a later date. Wish I had the time that day to go back and shop. It was a very pleasant way to spend time with friends in Boston.

Fabulous Fun Informative: Highly Recommen !

I've lived less than 30 minutes from the North End all my life - I learned about fabulous places to buy great products; tasted amazing foods and desserts, learned a zillion better ways to cook pasta, which ones to buy, the difference between good pine nuts and great ones, tasted fruits I'd never heard of before and learned history and fun facts - went back the next day with three shopping bags full. My girlfriends and I all had a blast and many wished we brought our husbands. Funny, the next day shopping I bumped into a tour of couples (probably around 40-55 yrs of age) and they were ALL having a blast - and I heard some of them talking about it afterwards in a local restaurant and also giving it rave reviews ! GO - I can't imagine anyone not enjoying it from early 20's to late 90's !

Lifetime Locals Enjoyed the North End Tour
Sat, Nov 29, 08   2:00 PM pmmaki Male 50-59 Local Family Without Children
My wife and I are natives of the Boston area, and despite all of the times we have visited the North End in our lifetime we learned much that we did not know about Boston's beloved little Italy. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and a pleasure to spend time with for the 3 hours wandering through the streets and shops on the tour. A very good mixture of history, humor, and education. Learned much about the food and what the best ingredients to look for and where to find them. The tour was well structured and paced. The sights, scents, and tastes were wonderful. I now know how to select the best eggplant when I am dispatched to the grocery store. We would highly recommend for locals as well as distant travelers. Everyone will enjoy.

My husband and I had gone on this tour 2 years ago and enjoyed it tremendously. My parents were coming to visit from out of town and we thought this would be fun to do with them. Not only did they absolutely love it, but we loved it the second time around! Michele's depth of knowledge about the area and the local and original cuisine is remarkable, and she is a fantastic guide and narrator. My entire family enthusiastically recommends this for anyone - locals and tourists alike! You will not be disappointed.

It was a great day, even for our teenage kids! Went into many stores and loved the food samples! We learned alot even though we have an Italian heritage and live nearby. Can't wait to go back and do some more shopping!

Informative, interesting, well worth the money. The tour guide was well versed in the cultural aspects of Chinatown: history, food, language, he had it all! He provided a brief history lesson, which made us aware of the some of the adversity the Chinese immigrants faced. During the tour, he moved us right along - but paused whenever we had questions or wanted a bit more time somewhere. The sampling of locations was great: bakeries, candy shop, restaurant, pharmacy, grocery.... And lunch was delicious! We did spend a good amount of time outside, so bad weather would have been awful. I highly recommend this tour.

Jim just had so much information about the culture, neighborhood, food, recommendations, etc. My husband and I actually went back to many of the stores and purchased various items. He mentioned a possible, advance more in-depth tour in the future - sign us up!
