I thought the tour was adequate. The guide was informative and knowledgeable, but I think more shops/stores and maybe even a restaurant or two could have been included. I would say that this tour would be more suitable for someone who has never been to the North end.

We weren't sure at first, but once we met our guide, we were intrigued. We cannot wait until the advanced tour is released.

It can't stress how much you are missing if you don't take this tour. The tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. The people in the shops that we visited were very welcoming and the food samples were amazing. I can't stop talking about this tour to my friends and would highly consider doing it again, when I visit Boston again. The history of the North End is amazing. You can't miss this tour when in Boston.

We were celebrating my mom's 75th birthday so my sister and I took her on this tour. It was fabulous! Jim, our guide, was wonderful! My only wish is that we'd had some time to buy goodies in each store! I

Outstanding Tour!

We enjoyed every minute and only wish the tour could have been longer but understand the time constraints. We learned so much. Jim was extremely knowledgeable and very informed about the North End from it's early days to what it is today. His culinary expertise was evident and he could not have been more personal. All of the shop personnel were generous to allow us into their space and they were all very courteous. We will be recommending this tour without question. A meal or perhaps a cooking class would be a nice addition. Walking up and down the streets of the North End with the residents going about their daily shopping routines, listening to all of the different languages, watching them interact with the shop keepers and seeing what they purchased gave us a real sense of living there. It was fun to be among them!

My adult daughter and I loved this tour. Jim, our guide, was very informative and interesting. We learned a lot about the North End, got great recommendations about the shops and now we feel like natives! The tour was interesting to me, a real foodie, and informative for my daughter who is still learning a lot about food and different ethnic dishes in general. We had a nice lunch afterward and wandered back to some of places we toured to pick up some great products for our weekend in Boston. Went back on Saturday night and picked up some great take-out food from Jim and Michele's list. Like I said, after the tour we feel like we know the ins and outs of the North End. Really enjoyed the tastings, loved the shops, wish it lasted all day! Do you do a tour that is longer that includes lunch or dinner? We would definitely recommend this as a must for anyone interested in the North End's history and food. It moved at a great pace. The North End is small and very walkable. My husband and I spent an afternoon in the North End several years ago on our first trip to Boston. I learned so much on this tour about the people and history that I really have an appreciation now that I didn't have before. It is such great little slice of Italy in down-town Boston.

Loved the tour so much....I am here again!

When I first experienced this tour of the North End (May 29th), I was astounded at all the knooks and crannies in the North End. I have visited many times in the past to dine and never walked further than Hanover Street and that short area. The tour introduced me to streets I had never had occasion to stroll along. What a marvelous find! My friends and I were so enthusiastic over Polcari's and the Salumeria among the other venues. And after cooking for so long ....and I mean ethnic cooking of my ancestor's, I was amazed at some details that I learned from Jim. Well, my enthusiasm spilled over into another set of friends. I just raved about this food tour so much, they, too, were up for the experience. That is the reason of my second tour on Oct. 8th....and with Jim once again! He is just so interesting and knowledgeable I found what he had to say on this second tour just as interesting as the first. And may I add, my friends were delighted with the experience. They were so thankful I shared this 'find' and the lovely day we enjoyed together. Thank Jim once again for giving my friends and I another wonderful day in the North End. I'm program director for a philanthropic education organization whose main purpose is to raise money for women's education. However, we are also a group of friends who delight in getting together and sociailizing also. When I introduced the North End Tour, the response from everyone was book it!!. Registering on line was easy and the instructions recieved in the mail were a big help. There were 13 in our group and our host (Alec?) was very knowledgeable and accomodating. The appetizers at each stop were delicious. The group size was a big plus. Everyone has E mailed me about how much they enjoyed the tour. It was something new, eduational, and fun too.. We will definitely book the China Town tour next fall.

Loved the bits about Italian Culture
Wed, Oct 8, 08   10:00 AM supernessa Female 30-39 Combination Individual
I am from Italy, and I heard a lot about Boston's North end. I found it incredibly fascinating to learn what kind of things Americans don't know about our culture, and learn about how the Italian culinary culture evolved in the US since the first immigration wave at the beginning of the 1900s. Our amazing guide was incredibly knowledgeable about the little nuances of Italian culture and how it evolved in the century it's been away from Italy. Fascinating tour, I highly recommend it!
