Wonderful

This was a wonderful tour. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. Our tour guide (Richard, I believe) was knowledgeable and entertaining. The information that was handed out on the local shops , the tour, and restaurants were extremely helpful. As was the map. We were able to go back to all of the shops after the tour. The only problem we had was as the area got busier, it also got louder and we had a hard time hearing him over the street noise. If the tour guide could wear some kind of microphone, that would help. We will be recommending this tour to others. Loved it! Loved it! Loved it!

Interesting, but uncomfortable.

The guide was excellent and informed. However, the tour route and locations were uncomfortable with lots of standing and poor accoustics. The weather is deifinately an issue and in this case the wind was relentless.

A very different experience

Our guide was extremely knowledgable. We learned so much about a large variety of food related items. You are on your feet for the whole time though and that was uncomfortable.

Fun and Facts on Tour of Boston 's North End
Fri, Oct 3, 08   3:00 PM maryjomiller Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Individual
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable about the history of the North End, as well as American-Italian and Italian cuisines. He provided handouts and mini-lectures at each shop we stopped on our 5 shop tour. I would highly recommend this tour and suggest that if you are a tourist do the tour early in your trip (not the last day, as I did.) I returned to some of the shops to purchase items to take home and to give as gifts. I had a great time!

One of the best we've ever gone on! We have been going to the NorthEnd for years--we learned about places we had never heard of, and learned alot about Italian food, and the history of the North End

What a terrific time we had meandering through the streets of the North End! Jim gave us so much information that will undoubtedly help with future preparation of Italian food at home. We were thrilled with everything he told us, from learning whether we had a male or female eggplant to finding out how balsamic vinegar is made. We also thoroughly enjoyed the historical information he shared about the North End. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

good information, but pricey!!!

My husband and I have been on other culinary walking tours and we thought that this particular one was a bit pricey for the size of samples that we got. It would have been nice to have been provided a small bottle of drinking water,to say the least. Our tour guide was a former chef, he was very knowlegeable about many of the tours products, which made it a learning experience. All in all, i think searching a bit harder for a better tour would be a good idea.

Great Tour

This is a wonderful excursion that gives you the opportunity to see a part of Boston you might never have visited. My husband & I loved the authentic Italian stores. All of the owners seemed genuinely happy to have us visit their shops and the information provided on the tour was wonderful. The samples are a bonus as well. We went back to Maria's pastry shop that same night and stocked up on some things we had sampled. The tour provides you with a detailed listing of all the shops you visited and the things you tasted so you can order from home if you like. We will probably be having some of the cheese and olive oil sent to our house soon. If you are interested in Italian food and cooking you cannot go wrong with this tour.

Learned quite a deal about the "real" Italian food culture. I'll never look at balsamic vinegar the same way! Enjoyed the different aspects of each category of food, whether it be cheese, olives, pastries, wines etc.... Definetly a must DO!

Fist let me say that this was the best tour I have ever been on! I just wish it was longer. Secondly, my family is from the North End and i learned more from the tour than I have learned from my family and they date back to the '30s. Our guide was just the best!

The Best of the North End Discovered
Wed, Oct 1, 08   10:00 AM Coachjude Female 60-69 Local Other
I learned more from this 3 hour walking tour of the North End than I ever have during my many visits to the area in my 34 years of living an hour away! I actually felt as though I had JUST discovered a jewel that has been in plain sight all the time. Jim, our tour guide, couldn't have been more informative, knowledgeable and fun. I highly recommend this tour to anyone, but especially to those who "think" they know all there is to know about the North End. You'll be pleasantly surprised!

Very Informative and Fascinating

My friend and I really enjoyed the North End Tour. We learned lots of fascinating and informative "Italian" information. The food sampling at some of the various places we visited whet our appetite for more after the tour. We revisited several of the shops and thought of ourselves as experts in our purchase decisions. Jim, our guide, presented his wealth of Italian knowledge in to us with lots of humor. On my next trip to Boston, I would consider taking this tour again along with the Chinatown tour which I definitely look forward to in the future.
