9/6/08 Boston Chinatown Walking tour-EXCELLENT

The tour guide, Jim, was excellent. He was so knowledgeable and an excellent speaker and guide. He studied Asian history, lived in China, speaks the language, is a chef and owned his own restaurant so knows the different foods - what more could you ask for in a tour guide. There were plenty of samplings of food that we might never have tried on our own. At the end we had a Dim Sum lunch - Jim would explain the different foods we were eating and what other foods were being served. He also explained the etiquette of eating/serving. I would highly recommend this tour - taking this tour you get a better understanding of the Chinese lifestyle.

Thoroughly enjoyable--educational, and tasty.

This tour added a lot to my knowledge of the Chinese/Asian American culture here in Boston, and gave me the opportunity to try a variety of Chinese foods I might not have risked ordering on my own. Our guide Jim was fun to be with and pleasant to listen to. It was a most enjoyable morning. The list of restuarants and shops, and "take out" box of candies were nice to bring home. I'll definitely be sampling the restaurants!

My wife and I spent labor day weekend trying to get to know Boston, but most of the time we found ourselves coming back the North End because of everything we learned on our tour. Raymond, chef from numerous Boston restaurants, took us around to introduce us to the foods and owners of the north end. He not only brought our knowledge about some of the foods we use on a daily basis to the next level, but he helped us understand how the history of the neighborhood brought those foods to us. We definately recommend this tour to any other "foodies" local or not.

It was wonderful. The guide was knowledgeable, fun and well known in the neighborhood. We visited a variety of purveyors and were rewarded with wonderful tastes and memories to last a long time. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in the history of Boston and enjoys good food. One of the best tours my group has ever taken; certainly the tastiest!!!

Delightfully entertaining and educational ...

I took this tour with a group of 8 friends (Gourmet Group) and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Jim provided wonderful, interesting information and stories about the North End of Boston. The tour gave us just the information we were looking for to explore the North End later that day. We ate at a few of the recommended restaurants and were not disappointed. I would recommend taking the tour in the morning so you have time to go back to the stores in the afternoon. Thank you Jim for a memorable tour. Next time we'll take the tour of Chinatown. We never did find a place to buy the licorice pieces we sampled. It would be helpful if you would pass on a website address we could go to to purchase the product or the name of the product so we could research it. Thanks again.

I just wanted to make sure that Beth Appleburn is given props for a fantastic and enthusiastic tour. I am 26 --- now a local in Boston, but originally from MS --- and my parents were in town for the weekend. I had heard great things about the tour, but to be honest, Beth made the tour what is was! She was energetic and brilliant, funny and smart, just too good. She needs a raise! I enjoyed her as much as my father did.... so she speaks to many different populations. Beth is more than an asset to this tour. I believe she is a very special person in more ways than one. THANK HER FOR US! The Turner Family from Mississippi

This was a wonderful tour. Even though I thought I knew a lot about Italian food, there was still plenty to learn. It was also fun to get to know some of the many wonderful shops in the North End. Now I know where to go when I want to do some Italian cooking!

Very Nice Time

The Tour was informative and well run. It did not involve long walking distances, but it did become tiring because of the standing at various places. Thankfully our Guide brought us to a concrete wall on Prince Street that allowed us to sit and listen and there was also seating available at the last stop, a pastry shop.

Our guide was very knowledgeable and informative. Felt too much time was spent at the bakery listening about all the pastries. Would have preferred more walking, visiting more shops and restaurants, and learning more about the history.
