Mother nature didn't cooperate but, notwthstanding the inclement weather, we had an enjoyable time. Our tour guide, Paul, was knowledgeable, entertaining, and did a great job of making the tour interesting and informative. Probably the best way to discover the many delights of the North End!

We loved all the sweet samples along the way! Our tour guide was enthusiastic and well informed. You walk away with a map, a list of North End businesses, and a restaurant guide. Really cannot wait to go back to some of the stores we visited and try some of the others we only heard about. Definitely not for the claustrophobic - stores are small and crowded!

My sister had just moved into an apartment in the North End and I bought tickets so that she could get to know the neighborhood. It was a great tour and took us to many places that we would not otherwise have gone to. For someone living in the North End (or anywhere in Boston), this tour is a great way to find out where to shop for the best veggies, wines, meats, olive oils, etc. It was also historically informative. All in all, it was a very good tour. I would highly recommend it!

It was a wonderful Mother's Day gift. I took my mother-in-law and we both enjoyed ourselves immensely. I would recommend it to everyone, except small children who don't have a strong attention span. Our tour guide Paul was perfect with his knowledge of the area, history, food and even locals. Also, being a vegetarian, I didn't at all feel left out in the tour since it wasn't just about the meat :O) After the tour we found all the stores and shopped to our hearts content...as the locals would. All the shop owners were really helpful and pleasant as well, being the outsiders as we were. I probably will even go on the tour again, and bring my own Mother next time. Erika Jobson Mond

We enjoyed our tour with Dick very much. He was very knowledgeable and made the tour very interesting. We went back to the stores and bought some things we can't get at home plus some things he recommended along with some great sounding ideas for recipes. Take the tour! You won't regret it!

Our tour guide was Dickie and he was very knowledgable on the history of the North End and Italian food. I live in Boston and I was very interested in sourcing better Italian cooking supplies and general local information. This tour certainly effectively introduced me to the North End and I have already been back to shop there (just days after the tour). My girlfriend is from San Francisco and although this would not be her local shopping area she now knows what to look for. I had my 10 month old daughter with me and because we took the tour on a rainy Wednesday, we had no trouble with her stroller in the stores. On a sunny day, the tour would have been more difficult due to the number of people in the neighbourhood. I am very glad that I took this tour.

Great tour. Guide was very knowledgable. Make sure you eat prior to going, it's three hours and you are surrounded by food. You only get little samples.

My sisters & I bought tickets for Sat 4/29/06 and we had a wonderful day. Our tour began at 2 & our guide was Paul. My family is of Italian descent and it was fun to go "back in time" and see the brands and items that our Grandma used to have in her kitchen. We particularly enjoyed the Salumeria and the wonderful meats and cheeses that were offered to us. Even though we are very familiar with Italian food and cooking, we did learn some things we didn't know (like rabe is the flowering tops of the turnip plant) plus we got to try some new products. The information & tastings on the olive oils and balsamic vinegars were very valuable and we have some new items to try in our kitchens. Paul, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgable and pleasant and the 3 hours flew by. I would recommend that the tour guides ask people to turn off their cell phones as we were interrupted several times by ringing phones and one woman who actually took a cell phone call in the middle of a store while the guide was speaking. It can be difficult to hear what's being said when the store is busy with customers. Since common courtesy is not common, it must be mandated! We would recommend the tour. Plan to stay in the North End for lunch or dinner (or both like we did) and enjoy all that's available to you in this great little neighborhood.

We were very lucky, the weather could not have been more perfect for our tour. We had friends visiting Boston from California and decided to drive up from Ct. to spend the weekend with them. I was always curious about the tour and thought this was the perfect way to spend a few hours. Even though I had been to the North End of Boston before, I felt as if this was the first time. It was wonderful finding out the history of food and wine of the various regions. I now will feel very comfortable going back and knowing which pastry shop, wine shop and other markets to shop in . The little tastie samples were great and of course after the tour we all had to go back to the various shops visited and shop till we dropped. I will highly recommend this tour to clients going to Boston. I am a travel agent and found this tour to be a little treasure.

My grown daughter and I had a memorable morning learning about the long history of Boston's North End, being introduced to the wonderful traditional foods and lore of the Italian immigrants and enjoying the many samplings as we made our way through the streets of this historic area. Highly recommend this tour!

Unless you get the main lady it was not worth the money.. You take 3 hours to walk in and out of some small shops and try some samples of the products. Neat but not worth the money, especially when your can see those stores on your own anyways. Also, there was very little to do with cooking as touted by the brochure. My wife and I love cooking and food and were hoping to see some inner tips from the local store owners. More than half the time they were not even there in the store and if they were they barely even spoke with us. MAIN TIP: When boiling pasta be sure and salt the water and not rinse it ... what??? you can get that tip off of the Food Network and it isnt even that big of a deal. Overall it wasnt worth it, but you do need to go to the North End

Michele Topor is an elegant lady with an incredible depth of knowlege of the North End and food in general. She gives you a truly authentic perspective of living in the North End from the time of early immigrants to the Little Italy it now represents. Walking tour with plenty of tastings to accompany the many stops at local shops. End result--Delicious!!
