I like the history of Italian cooking, and I like how the tour guide was a former chef. I definitely learned a lot from this tour; however, I did think the tour was a little long. My personal concentration span is about 2 hours for a tour.

Outstanding. More than we had hoped for. Informative, engaging and personal.

information overload

Most of the tour was as expected, a brief history of the area might have been better. All in all, there were too many facts given to take a lot away with you. I felt the tour guide Beth was informed but had made little effort in her appearence. Her attire, hair and shoes were unprofessional. I thought there would be more information about bread, meat and spices generally associated with Italian dining and cooking. I did learn about olive oil and balsamic vinegar, pastry and before and after dinner wines and spirits. On 100, I'd rate the experience a 70.

Great fun! Loved the tastings & the inside info.

We loved Jim. He had great information to share and some interesting factoids. We had a small group (only 4 people on our tour) and we were very grateful that the tour wasn't cancelled. Really, every stop was great except the first one (the introduction at the wine store) which seemed to go on a little long and did not have much exploration of the store. I appreciated that he let me buy some things along the way (which he said he discouraged) since we were such a small group and we were leaving for the airport shortly thereafter. Loved the handouts and appreciated his advice on lunch and purchases. Tasting along the way was great. I suppose the best praise is that both my Mom and I said we'd bring our husbands on the tour next time we're in town. Recommendations for the future: digestive tasting - fascinating information but I'd love to try the various types he described - maybe one of the bitter drinks instead of the limoncello, which we'd had before. Overall, the best tour we took on our trip and great for foodies like us!

My husband and I started our Boston vacation with the 3 hour culinary tour on one of the hottest days in Boston but it was so worth it. We learned so much about the history of the North End and the differences between Italian and Italian-American cooking. Jim was an absolute wonder at all his information . We loved it so much that we'd like to go back and stay for a month in the North End! I must admit I was glad that I took the tour at the beginning of my vacation because my feet were worn out by the end . This is the perfect tour for all ages who like food, history, and walking.

Second North End Tour

Did my first North End tour last year when I came to Boston with friends. Was so impressed that I had to do the tour again with my husband when we visited Boston together this year. Once again the tour guide was very helpful giving us information, stories and showing us the real North End. We had a wonderful morning ending with lunch at one of the restaurants that had been recommended as we had walked around.

Enjoyable Experience

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The tour guide was informative, knowledgeable, and had an easy conversational style. He seemed to genuinely enjoy people and the North End. He made us all feel comfortable. We were able to laugh and we felt free to say whatever was on our mind. He did not seem to be the traditional guide that would give you "just the facts." I highly recommend the tour, but with our tour guide. Not sure they are all as good as he was. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

We had been looking forward to this tour since the beginning of the year as it had been highly recommended to us. We were not disappointed in the least! Our tour guide, Jim, was very informative, enthusiastic and had a quick wit. After the tour we went back to several of the shops and made purchases. I gave my husband a bird's eye tour when I got home and can't wait to bring him on a tour. We will definitely re-visit the stops made on the tour as all of the shop owners were very welcoming and friendly. The lobster tails at Maria's were the best I had ever had!!!!!

I bought the tour for my husband who likes to cook. It was totally up his ally. He got all sorts of his questions answered from "What's the best canned tomatoes to buy?" to "Why shouldn't you use oil to cook pasta." I'm not as much of a cook myself, but enjoyed the tour as well. There was so much about Italian history and North End history that I didn't know.

Our tour guide brought to life the finer points of traditional Italian ingredients and cuisine as well as where to go to purchase them. We visit family in Boston every year and will definitely be returning to these shops .

A most enjoyable afternoon...visiting the north end shops and learning some new info regarding Italian products and cooking. It was nice to get off the beaten track with a guide who knew his way around and was chock full of info.
