I am a foodie who was interested in this tour b/c it was "behind the scenes." It's not. It's a long, boring tour of the North End with very little history and food. In fact, the tour takes you to places that traditionally give samples anyway...so there is no real advantage. At each location, he literally points out everything on the shelves: "this is pasta, this is olive oil, etc." Oh my goodness...I debated leaving 1/2 through, but at ~$50 each the tickets were too much of an investment to walk away. (Other people on the tour did.) If you want to see the North End, you are better of using your guidebook or doing Boston By Foot - which is only $10.

Our tour guide was friendly and very informative. The tour began with a great overview of the North End's history up through the present day and I enjoyed the variety of shops and anecdotes included in the tour. The tour truly helped me capture the "old world" feel of a tight-knit neighborhood in the middle of a bustling city. Even though our tour took place on a Friday morning Hanover Street was very crowded and I quickly learned where the real North End exists (not on Hanover Street)! The shopkeepers of the stores we visited were all very friendly and welcoming of our tour. I have enthusiastically recommended the tour to many people already and will continue to do so. Loved it!!!

For anyone interested in Italian food and culture this is not to be missed when visiting Boston. As my sister-in-law said, "If you can't go to Italy in the summer, the north end is the next best thing." And Michele Topor's North end Market tour is very worth it to point out the best places for specialty items, baked goods, meats, wines, cheeses and Italian cookware and utensils. Also gives a great history of the area and accurate dexplanation of the distinction between Italian and Italian-American. And by the way, the north end is just lovely, a big, big plus over north beach in San Francisco, (where I am from) and Little italy in New York. Tour guide was A +, too.

Our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. I had been to the North End a couple of times before, however, this tour informed me of the history, the food, the people. have already recommended to a couple of locals there! thanks so much.

We enjoyed the tour very much, but believe it was overpriced for what we experienced. A fairer price would have been closer to $35. We would not recommend the tour to friends or family at the current price. Nevertheless, it was a good experience to learn of the area and how the various immigration groups ate and/or acquired their foods and how they were either prepared or baked/cooked.

We enjoyed the tour and the tour guide (male) very much. His knowledge of the North End and the stores was very thorough. We were glad to sit down when it was over - two seventy year olds (active 70 year olds) a 55 year old and a late 40 year old but we all thoroughly enjoyed everything about it.

My mother enjoyed the walking tour of the North End as a gift because it was an opportunity to receive a knowledgeable experience of this famous Italian neighborhood. The guide was friendly and well-versed in the subject, the shopkeepers were friendly and the tastings were fun. It was a really nice way for out-of-towners to spend an afternoon in Boston!

We all had a great time and I learned why my grandparents had us kids do things and some of the traditions behind them. It was like reliving my childhood days at times. I have recommened this to a ton of friends already.

My husband, two teenagers and I spent four days in Boston. One of the highlights of our trip was the North End Market tour with Michelle Topor. Coming from Italian ancestry, we enjoyed each aspect of the tour from the history of the Italian immigrants to the tastings and Italian food knowledge we gained. We loved her passion for the Italian way of eating and the important health benefits she shared. She increased our food passion and left us hungry for more. A trip to Italy with her would be a dream.

Our tour was 9am on a Saturday morning. Comfortable temps and no rain. Michele Topor was our guide. What energy and passion! We received history about the North End and meet several colorful individuals. The 3 hour tour went by in a flash. When it says no restrooms available, believe it. We received helpful handouts with info and maps of where we were and where we were going before we left on the tour, so we could make all the notes we wanted. Plenty of time in the afternoon to go back and shop. The tour has a wide variety of stores. Wine, coffee, vegatables, pastries, butcher, meats, pasta, candies, what more could you ask for on a culinary tour. I can say with certainty, I'd recommend this tour highly. My husband was with me. He wasn't exactly sure of what I'd signed us up for, bur he even had a great time. That speaks volumes for the North End tour. We had such a good time in the area, we stayed for lunch, and went back the next day to spend more time and explore. I don't think you can go wrong with this tour. It's a different look at Boston just around the corner.

I am a South Boston native so I thought I knew the North End! Our tour guide Dick taught me otherwise. Dick is a professional who gave us the historical perspective as well as the insider view of the local bakeries, butchers, grocerias and wine stores. My sisters and I loved it. The group is manageable so we could all fit in the small stores. It was obvious that the store owners loved having the tour and our guide. Everyone made you feel at home. We now have yet another reason to go back to the North End... we discovered a bakery, meat store, fish store, vegetable store , wine store and of course 30 more resturants we need to experiance and this time we will bring the husbands. There is a lot of standing yet many rest stops along the way. There are samples of a variey of foods and drinks as well. I would not reccomend this for children it really should be appreciated by adults. Also folks with back problems might mind the standing. Michele has put together an awesome experience, I would love to take her Italy tour. Thanks

After visiting the No End since the 80's, we decided to take the tour after seeing Michele on TV. We enjoyed the tour from start to finish and found ourselves discovering places that we had walked past on numerous occassions but never ventured inside. We enjoyed ourselves so much, that the followinfg day we returned to enjoy a late morning coffee and pastry , purchase cheese, bread, olives and meats and wine all at the shops we had visited the previous day . We had a great picnic by the harbor all with the foods we had discovered on the tour. We are now looking into the particulars of Michele's tour of Italy - after the success of the No End tour we are interested in a trip on a grander scale.

Thought the grocery stores were the most interesting and the information on the local history of the area very informative. Tour guide was very helpful and always willing to answer questions or find out the answers. It was diffficult to hear the tour guide at times as the group was somewhat large and the places were small. Shop owners were extremely friendly and recognized us after the tour as members of the tour earlier in the day! Very nice. Would recommend it to someone coming to the area.
