Enthusisatic, well-informed tour
Wed, Dec 12, 07   10:00 AM Sanchez Female 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family With Children
Thoroughly researched and informative tour. An excellent introduction to the North End which you'd be unlikely to experience on your own. Better suited in parts to a domestic audience rather than a European audience (Europeans are already familiar with the small streets/shops and many of the products we saw). History and evolution of the area was fascinating nonetheless.

My wife and I spent over three hours with the most knowledgable and enthusiastic guide we have ever encountered. Michele Topor has lived in the North End of Boston for over thirty years and she knows the best places to shop , eat, and find all the authentic things in this old time neighborhood. She is extemely personable and was able to convey a great deal of this information to us during the tour. Everybody seems to know her and she was certainly welcomed into all the shops that we visited. We heartily recommend this tour for anyone who wants to get the feel of an authentic neighborhood and a glimpse of Boston as it was in the past.

Our tour guide, Jim, was very knowlegeable about the area, the culture, the food and the customs. It was a nice mix of information, touring and tasting.

Our tour was full of fascinating facts of Italian culinary history, recipe tips, and food lore. I loved every minute and went home inspired to cook Italian! Well worth the money, and our guide didn't waste a second. Enjoyed the tastings. Look forward to going on one of their other tours.

The tour was a great way to spend the morning. I learned much more than I thought I would and was exposed to several foods that were new to me. Our tour guide was extremely knowledgable and helpful.

Very good but not quite on the expected target.

Interesting and knowledable guide. I expected and would have preferred more of an introduction to the restaurants/bakeries/coffee shops of the North End rather than an explanation of where to buy ingredients for good Italian cooking. My interest is as a consumer, not as a cook. I also expected many more tastings; particularly conspicuous by its absence was a tasting of Italian liquours at Martinelli's.

The tour was extremely interesting and informative. Jim, our guide did and excellent job. I was born and raised in the suburbs of Boston of Italian and Irish decent. I love the North End and have been there many many times. I remember going there as a child with my Italian Grandmother. The tour took me places I had never been to before and provided some great information. I highly recommend it.

Jim did a great job as our tour guide. He was engaging and knowledgable about Italian culture, food, and history. The shops and markets were a great mix of food, drink or just plain good information. My daughters 18 and 15 years old enjoyed the tour as much as my husband and I. I would recommend this activity for individuals, families, or as a group of friends. A good take!

the tour was very interesting with lots of little interesting facts of the area. But the tour is way too long, three hours to tour 6 properties was way too much, my girlfriend and I almost left after two hours. if the tour saw more of the north end it would be great, oh and something the tour organisers should think of - ban people from using cell phones. the tour we were on had this group that were doing a photo shoot for some wine magazine and this woman could not stay off her cell phone - really annoying!!! overall yes its interesting but there are better sights to see in Boston

Must not be missed!

Jim was a fantastic tour guide. He never seemed rushed and always had plenty of time for questions. The pace was excellent. My only suggestion would be to build in some sitting down time in the middle of the tour. 3 Hours of standing seemed tough for me and I'm in shape. Maybe stop for some coffee in the middle and continue talking. Even giving more of the history of the area during the break would accomodate all that needs to be covered.

I would like to recommend one change. It would be nice to be able to shop while we were in the stores. Three hour tour, took time to have lunch, a conversation about the outstanding time we just experienced and we were out of time. We went back to two stores. This is my only disappointment; as we would have shopped until we dropped!

The tour was excellent. My family and friends are still talking about this 2 weeks later. The tour was nicely balanced with information and tastings to compliment the area. I highly recommend this tour.
