Local history with a kick!

My grown daughter and I had a memorable morning learning about the long history of Boston's North End, being introduced to the wonderful traditional foods and lore of the Italian immigrants and enjoying the many samplings as we made our way through the streets of this historic area. Highly recommend this tour!

NOT WORTH THE MONEY
Fri, Apr 28, 06   3:00 PM austindmille Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Unless you get the main lady it was not worth the money.. You take 3 hours to walk in and out of some small shops and try some samples of the products. Neat but not worth the money, especially when your can see those stores on your own anyways. Also, there was very little to do with cooking as touted by the brochure. My wife and I love cooking and food and were hoping to see some inner tips from the local store owners. More than half the time they were not even there in the store and if they were they barely even spoke with us. MAIN TIP: When boiling pasta be sure and salt the water and not rinse it ... what??? you can get that tip off of the Food Network and it isnt even that big of a deal. Overall it wasnt worth it, but you do need to go to the North End

Michele Topor is an elegant lady with an incredible depth of knowlege of the North End and food in general. She gives you a truly authentic perspective of living in the North End from the time of early immigrants to the Little Italy it now represents. Walking tour with plenty of tastings to accompany the many stops at local shops. End result--Delicious!!

Tour was a little too long

I think the tour could be done in 2 hours without losing anything. frankly I was disappointed that Michele was not my guide. I might have scheduled the tour at a different time to have the guide of my choosing. my guide was only OK>

A great take even if you've been to the North End before. Visit some of the smaller shops you might have missed or not realize are there. A good overview of real italian culture as done in Italy.

It was very good..........our leader was very nice

Even though it was listed as a culinary tour.......several buildings with history could have been pointed out (North Church, Paul Revere, etc) I expected more walking......I would have preferred more walking to standing.... I would have loved to have seen someone making /or baking something.......a little demonstration would have been nice. The tour was very informative and fun. Overall....thumbs up!

Our young guide had lots of enthusiasm for food and for Boston's North End. He did a nice job showing us contrasts between what we might find in our local supermarket and authentic Italian selections. The difference was frequently quite dramatic, and the real Italian flavors were always the best. There were plenty of great Italian foods, drink, sweets, and condiments to sample--sample, mind you, not dine on-- and all quite delicious. It was a fun trip. Glad we signed up! Afterwards we were given some insider tips on choosing a great North End restaurant to cap off our tour.

Fascinating tour from the history of the North End, the transformations from Italian to Italian American. I felt like I should've been taking notes because I learned so much! Thanks for a fun tour. It was perfect for our work team building event.

We really enjoyed this tour, however, not being serious cooks, we thought the tour guide could have been a little bit more entertaining instead of merely giving copious information. Overall though, we had fun seeing a portion of Boston we had never been to before.

I found out about this tour from a friend. My husband and I visit the North End quite frequently, so I thought this would be a good idea for his birthday. We attended the tour on a chilly Saturday afternoon. Our guide's name was Dick and he was wonderful! We visited many markets that we never knew about! My husband's parents are originally from Sicily, so for him, this tour was like being with his family!Thank you for helping us make a great memory!
